We left almost immediately after arriving! I feel bad about this place because I feel like it has so much potential, but they really need to get their shit together. Basically the ambience is awesome, really colorful/playful/modern, but here are the overall problems with this place: –It’s strangely located next to a theater, so it’s really easy to miss when you’re walking by, which is kind of a shame. –Really small menu with no healthy options –I decided since we’d come all the way here after getting excited about it through Unilocal,we’d at least get some espresso/coffee…I ordered an espresso, but the waitress said the machine was down… Then I ordered a coffee… and she said they didn’t have any… So we settled for water… Then figured we may as well just leave. What a bummer.

Being next to playhouse and having a full bar probably helps this place stay in business. The food was just meh; sandwiches, fried goods and burgers. The waitresses had an attitude problem, they were very snippy and rude, maybe they went to playhouse the previous night and had a mean hangover? I don’t know. Whatever the case was, they were probably the worst servers I’ve ever had. After looking through the menu we decided to order the bar burger and the Love Club. The food wasn’t that good, a bite into the burger was all I needed. It was dry, bland and wasn’t even seasoned. The Love Club was pretty much a club sandwich; I don’t know how you could screw up a simple club sandwich but this place someone succeeded on doing just that. 2 Stars for the décor, having board games and having a full bar. Recommendation: If you have to get something, so some drinks and play board games

Back in January I purchased a Groupon for Sweet Love Hangover and, nearly six months later(expiration date looming), I finally made my way here. Given all the mediocre to bad reviews, plus the fact that it has barely been reviewed, I honestly wasn’t looking forward to coming here. But alas, I already spent money on my Groupon so I didn’t want to waste it. The concept is cute… a diner with comfort food and board games, plus décor that’s supposed to remind you of your childhood(assuming you grew up in the 70s, maybe even the 80s). But it all falls pretty flat. The Triple Threat Fries tasted like they were defrosted and tossed in the fryer. The Grilled Cheese was nothing special and I might even say it was below average. It was supposed to come with fries, but we asked for slices of tomato and they very nicely obliged. My friend ordered a tea and I had a beer(figured THAT couldn’t be messed up). I was so sad that my experience was every bit as disappointing as I thought it would be. I just can’t see this place lasting. The food’s pricey and mediocre. And, it’s only open four days a week(M, Th, F and Sa) with extremely limited hours(8 pm — 4 am). At least our server was pleasant…

They were supposed to open at 8pm(Monday night). We were there at 8pm and others were even waiting. Maybe 10 minutes in they opened the doors. We sat where we desired, received a menu attached to a clipboard and proceeded with the decision making on our food choices. I, like some of the previous reviewers, noticed that the menu has been reduced. Dessert options cut down to one and soup was no longer on the menu. Tried the turkey club, The Hangover(breakfast type item) and the Tater Tots nachos-like item. Both sweet potatoes and regular french fries were tasted as well. Lots of sharing at the table. Food was OK but nothing spectacular. We had a rousing game of Sorry at the table, which was fun. Our water glasses were not refilled for a long period of time — at some point I just waved down the waitress and asked for more. The décor is cute; but again, nothing too awesome. Good thing I had a trusty groupon for the pricey food, and with the talk of them going downhill — I’ll stick to Kitchen 24 for late night eats in the area if I want them. Food was salty, not *sweet*. I was not feeling the *love*. And my *hangover*… didn’t exist before nor did you contribute.

atmosphere brings you WAY back… to your childhood w/boardgames and colorful décor(even in the bathrooms!). menus are even stuck to clipboards to look like you’re checking through your hw or something. went during restaurant week, ordered the fixed menu, had the fat fries, mac ‘n cheese x 4 ‘n fried twinkie. got their nurse betty’s blues — basically a hpnotiq jello shot served in a literal«shot» or syringe — cute keepsake, but not worth $ 12. haha fat fries had a smidge of garlic, but were otherwise just fries. mac ‘n cheese x 4 = soupy, thick, heavy mess. fried twinkie was good but not as good as the ones you get at the fair! favorite of the night? my friend ordered the tott-cho’s which is tater tots w/nacho toppings. near the end of our meal, the waitstaff wasn’t as attentive since there was some première next door and crowds of ppl came in to drink before heading over. the good thing about that was… they were pretty heavy-handed when i ordered a rum ‘n coke.(:

I think this place is seriously struggling. We went the other night a little after 8 pm and it was deserted. I realize it’s an after-hours place and we were early, but it felt strange to be the ONLY table there. Also, the menus have been seriously stripped down. I guess this happened in the last week. Almost everything on their old menu is gone. There were only a few breakfast items, 4 – 5 appetizers, 2 sandwiches and 1 dessert. We tried their mac and cheese, which was OK, but a little dry. We didn’t think it was worth finishing. And then ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, which was just what we could make at home – so I can’t really rave about it. We did like the deep-fried Pop Tart for dessert. That was at least kooky and different! The waitress was nice and space is nice. They have mad libs on the back of the menus, which was fun. And there are board games – which would have been fun except somebody had spilled maple syrup all over the pieces of Connect Four. EEK!

Pretty sure Sweet Love Hangover is something totally different after my bedtime. But we went there on a Saturday night at about 8:45pm. Everyone getting ready for the night was coming in before going«out». So we shared everything we ordered. Mac and Cheese was awesome, but when it comes served in a huge cereal bowl, its just too much. I loved it and didn’t want to waste it, but it was too rich. Then we shared a burger w/sweet potato fries. It was good and I’d recommend it. I was done, but he really wanted to try the deep fried twinkie, so we ordered it to share as well. Yum — they must freeze them or something before diping them into the batter. They’re like all deep fried goodness, but the insides aren’t mush. So good. Anyway, so the atmosphere was interesting with everyone dressed up to go out(and it was clear the other women in there had probably never had a dinner of mac and cheese and deep fried twinkies). Overall a good meal, but nothing remarkable.

3PM on a Wednesday afternoon and looking for some good drinks, where do we go? Sweet Love Hangover! After a day of shopping and practically 2 hours at Sephora, we wanted some drinks. Knowing it was Hollywood, we knew any restaurant in the area would have expensive drinks. We were walking along Hollywood Blvd. looking for a place that caught our eye. A cantina here and there, all closed. Or restaurant open but bar closed. Apparently 3 is too early to get drunk… In HOLLYWOOD? I don’t even have the strength to debate that right now. So we stumble into this place. Tired of walking, and our dry mouths salivating when we saw«Miller Light» on a little billboard outside. Me and 3 of my girlfriends ordered the Hair of the Dog. A shot of vodka(I think) with a drop of tabasco, including a Corona. While our designated driver drank a simple Miller Lite. That shot had quite a kick! We were by ourselves so we took our time and ordered Tachos. They were DELICIOUS, but they look a bit gross. Tator tots smothered in nacho cheese, guacamole, salsa, sour cream, and ground beef. Much like nachos. We didn’t even mind or notice that our waitress was eavesdropping, waiting for us to get the hell out of there since we were the only ones. We noticed some board games off to the side, it seemed like a fun idea, but we figure next time we’ll play some Candyland or Monopoly. For a shot with beer, $ 10 is not bad at all.

If Sweet Love was a bit less pricey, I would give it 5 stars all the way. First off, this place is Playhouse’s conjoined twin, and is quite hard to miss if you’re driving by. Highly worth the quick stop though considering just looking around inside the restaurant is entertaining in itself. And they’re open pretty much all night, so you have no excuse. So 1am and my friend and I were hungry. I had known about this place so I suggested we stop by since it was the only place with interesting drinks and food still open nearby(except for 25 degrees). We were super surprised to actually see how crazy this place was, and how much is going on in such a tiny little diner. Dexters Laboratory on one tv, some other Tim & Eric-esq show on the other. Labits and other Kozik Kid Robot toys on one wall, board games at the multicolored bar, a drunk girl from the Playhouse in the corner about to puke… like I said, a lot of stuff going on. The menu is pretty sweet; super colorful with madlibs on the back of each page is a nice touch. But the best part: the names of their ever-interesting meals and drinks. My friend and I split the bacon grilled cheese, and a couple drinks. I’m not sure what hers was called but it was like a strong tequila sunrise. I of course had to go all out and get the nurse betty: a plastic syringe filled with a yummy red jelloshot. Not that much alcohol, or worth the $ 10, but I still thought it was pretty good. I’m pretty sure I kept the syringe. If I’m ever in the mood for a late night snack again I’ll be back. I’m dying to try their deep fried twinkie, and more cocktails, as always.

Mad libs on the back of menu? CHECK! Really cute comfy interior? CHECK! DEEPFRIEDPOPTARTSUNDAE? CHECK! Lots and lots of our childhood board games such as jenga, connect four, guess who, candyland in very good, almost new condition? CHECK! Sweet Love Hangover is the perfect place to relax with your friends, get in touch with your inner child(and sweet tooth) and take a break from the normal options of bars, clubs, and movies. Yes it may be a little on the pricey side, but keep in mind, most people who come here buy one drink and sit here for hours! Keeping that in mind, I think it’s fair if the alcoholic drinks are $ 10 – 15 and the desserts are $ 8 – 10. They actually have an extensive food selection, but as we had just hit up Best Fish Tacos of Ensenada, we weren’t exactly hungry. The pop tart sundae was pretty good! The frying caramelizes the sugar frosting and give it that nice browned taste. The molten chocolate cake, unfortunately, still had a solid and cold chocolate center when it got to our table. Fortunately, we were having so much fun with our crazy game of jenga(we just stacked blocks frank gehry style and then went at it) that we didn’t mind eating it the way that it was! Severs are helpful, but our waitress did have that habit of calling each of us «hon»(eek!) They aren’t pushy and only come over when it looks like you are running low on drinks. If you are bored and looking for something new, give Sweet Love Hangover a try! Just be prepared to have lots of quarters for the parking meters! ________ Someone please let me know if they have their own parking lot that I don’t know about!

I’m not that fond of gimmicky places, and this places is quite gimmicky. It’s decorated kind of like a kids playroom but for adults. That being said, I quite enjoyed playing ‘Connect Four’ and ‘Guess Who’ over drinks and dinner with friends. They’ve got some unique specialty drinks too, one of which is like a pepsi float with booze. The appetizers are pretty great here, sweet potato fries, and tott-cho’s(tater totts with nacho toppings). I don’t know why anybody didn’t think of tott-cho’s before, and if they did, why didn’t I hear about it earlier?! As good as the appetizers were, the main courses were just ok. Mac and Cheese, which tasted a bit watery, Sloppy Joe Sliders, which were a bit dry. I would probably come here again, but just order appetizers, unless I hear about some amazing undiscovered dish that they serve. The service here is ok. I mean to say, the waitress was great, but she was the only one working, and the place filled up pretty quickly, she clearly looked overwhelmed and apologized for the time it took to break a 20. It was definately an enjoyable experience though, and I’ll probably stop by again for them tasty tatt-cho’s

I just discovered that I really like the game«Code Breaker». It seemed complicated at first but once I figured it out it was awesome! Sweet Love Hangover introduced me to this game & reconnected me to some of my childhood favorites like«Connect Four», «Candy Land», &“Jenga”. What’s with the name though, «Sweet Love Hangover»? Is it in reference to anything or is it just a bad name?! Sorry enough of my rants. I really love this place for the late hours & the board games. The modern take on classic American diner can be expensive. I ordered the veggie stirfry with quinoa which was pretty good and I was content since they had a lovely vegan option for me. Luckily I had a groupon coupon for $ 10 off. They have a full cocktail bar with drink specials. The cocktails were good and the waitress was really nice and looked like an old timey beautiful movie star. She was not old by any means but had a classic beauty about her. Not that this has anything to do with the food, but it is an observation. I went a little earlier in the evening which brought families with children so if you are looking for more of a grownup affair I would go after families have dinner.

Yum-yum-yum. A colorful paradise of comfort food and childhood games. I came here for my birthday and had a ball with friends in a place with chairs the color of Jolly Ranchers. To me, any place where you can play Rock-Em Sock-Em Robots while eating fattening things is gets four stars. I don’t remember liking my actual meal, but the appetizers were outstanding. A plate of tater tots done up with nacho fixin’s? Insane. The fries and all their dipping sauces are outstanding and I loved the sesame wings. Sure, everything that came to our table looked like an entry for that«This is Why You’re Fat» website, but c’mon! Place was quiet at 8pm, but that was kind of desired and we ended up getting the best service –even getting our cutie-pie server to keep dishing up the Michael Jackson tunes on zee ol’ iPod. Fabulous! Go. Leave your diet at the door and have some fun indulging yourself in being a kid again.

Went last night(Monday) with another Chef friend, both of us curious about the the Drunk palate finally getting recognition. I’ll keep it brief. 1. Drink list was so-so. 2. Service, despite being nearly empty, was really lackluster, as if they really didn’t care to drag themselves from standing off to the side chatting in order come help us. 3. Had the Hangover, Bacon-wrapped dog, and fried twinkie. Everything was just OK. Going back. Eh. Probably no.

We went here in search for dessert, but ended up eating all sorts of things. We started off with the sweet potato fries, which were good, but it’s pretty hard to not do sweet potato fries well. I had an omelette and it was good. The omelette came with potatoes that were not good. It also came with this toast, that was amazing because it had so much butter on it. My friends had this bacon wrapped hot dog and they said it was good. The best thing I tried was the Ebony and Ivory. It’s chocolate cake with ice cream… the chocolate cake was DELICIOUS!!! The place is decorated with types of pictures that they sale at the David & Goliath store… they were hilarious! Customer service was ok… our waitress was a little loopy.

I was there on a Tuesday night. It was pretty empty but the food was great and the service very prompt. I had the mac and cheese which actually was way better then I expected(and a very large serving). My girl got their burger which she said she was very happy with, however the fries it came with nothing to write home about. I didn’t try any of their deserts. Mad libs and board games at the table are pretty fun! They don’t provide WI-FI however, which I think is pretty lame.

Came here early sunday evening and was the only table occupied however despite 3 people working it took them 10 minutes to approach us for a drink order. One lady still looked like she had the shakes from drinking too much the night before. When sweetcheeks realized we were her table she said something like«Oh I am sorry I didn’t realize I had a table». hmm Honey… darhling. 1 occupied table in the restaurant. 3 employees. doesn’t take long to do the math of asking. I would understand if this place was packed to the gills but not empty! Wine was very dry and tasteless(merlot) and while my hamburger was very very good I doubt we will be back… Place needs to step up the service. Seems like maybe a fluke as other reviews seems pretty opposite of mine.

Service was a 5. although on a Monday night, there were only 3 – 5 tables. Food was 4/¾… the club was good, the fries with it fantastic, and even better w/beer. the quinoa and vegis with special sauce were: 12 slices of VERY finely julienned peppers and onion(ie, not even ¼ of a pepper) on top of a cup and a half of quinoa. I think the special sauce was olive oil. Uh. vegetarians tend to like MORE spices, not less. Mr. Pink tried a forkfull and declared it ‘soapy’…I don’t know what that meant, either. The twinky was delish, like a freshly made donut. The above came to a little over $ 30. But it gets another 5 again for the cheerful decorations. LiteBrite wall, Jolly Rancher chairs. I’m going to go back and try the breakfast stuff, maybe with someone who’ll play connect 4 with me.

Cute décor and friendly staff. Food was OK. Split a few items with my boyfriend. «The Hangover» was pretty good. Besides that… just OK. Nothing to write home to Ma’ about. They are open late… until 1 or 2 I think. Not 24hrs though. The best part of this place was they had old school classic games stacked up on the bar that you could grab and play. Connect 4, Mouse Trap, Operation, etc. They also have free candy! Blow-pops, Sugar Daddies/Babies, etc. Yummy stuff. It’s a cute place and fun for a late night bite.

A new diner has opened in the lobby of the once decrepit Fox theater on Hollywood Blvd. Wandered in by chance today just after it opened. Still a work in progress but the design is quite cool and love the mirrored ceiling that extends through the glass under the restored marquee. The menu is a mix of breakfast items, diner staples and mexican at affordable prices. Food still needs some work but worth a visit. My carnitas tacos for $ 11 were tasty but the meat was a bit dry. They refilled my diet pepsi faster than I could keep drinking it as the glasses they use are kind of small. Nice staff, hours seem to be noon to midnite and not sure about alcohol as they were clearing the bar of bottles while I was there. A nice addition to Hollywood Blvd for a quick, affordable bite. ***the interior décor has changed since the photo I posted was taken
