One os the best japanese restaurants I’ve ever been. I will always remember the Chicken Nuggets Japanese Style and their Secret Salad Dressing.

So sad this place is gone! It was wonderful to chat with the owners and get delicious sushi. I wish them the best. NMRK

This sushi restaurant had the best sushi, menu items and wonderful staff. Always pleasant and fun to take your friends for a great dinner and atmosphere. Unfortunately, the landlord made a greedy move and as of July 25th, Sushi Central will be closed. They will still do catering — so I’m going to find reasons to have get togethers catered! :) GETTOSUSHICENTRALBEFOREITCLOSESAND start planning events to have them cater for the best sushi ever! We are all going to miss this establishment and their staff. Thank you very much Phillip and Talia.

Cute place. Parking is tough. Special sushi was all good. Uni and amaebi above average. Would definitely return. Prices are right on point. Don’t come expecting Urusawa then complain. Also don’t come expecting Kabuki garbage then complain about the price. It’s a cute place with good food.

With only 2 other people in the restaurant they told me turn down the video I was watching from across the room. Isn’t that more disturbing. Total jerk. Food was ok but over priced. Probably not coming back.

This place was great. We got the crunch roll, surf and turf roll, and the Philadelphia roll. All of it was really good quality, but the surf and turf took awhile to cook. Can’t rush perfection though as that and the crunch are the best.

My cousin introduced me to this place… and I was very hesitant at first based off its location and appearance. But boy was I wrong… mama was right: never judge a book by its cover. I was blown away by the quality of fish here. It is so fresh and just the right cuts that melt in your mouth! Chef Phillip and his wife Tali also make the experience so wonderful! He uses a variety of sauces on all his nigiri sushi, something you don’t find often in the plethora of sushi restaurants out here. My favorites are the salmon belly, escolar(ono), and the beautiful tuna. I’ve only tried the spicy tuna roll, but I believe this place has a specialty in nigiri. It’s all about the simplicity. Also their house salad is amazing. Something about the dressing makes you want to lick the bowl. Been here twice now. BYOB! Another plus. I can’t wait to come back with some wine and do the omakase with chef Phillip! I want to be greedy and not share this gem with everyone but I believe everyone looking for a more simple, authentic, and fresh sushi experience-along with two awesome chefs/owners-must try this place.

By far one of the best sushi places I have visited in LA! The owners are friendly and warm people. The place is tiny and unassuming, but definitely a gem! Bring your favorite bottle of alcohol and try this place if you appreciate quality raw fish that literally feels like it’s melting in your mouth!!! Rolls are so good too but the raw fish here was the highlight and is absolutely delectable! Especially the seared ono!!! Must Try! Yummmm! Can’t wait to go back! I’m addicted!

We were really disappointed after reading the reviews. Stick to the rolls! The sashimi was awful. We have sushi all over LA many times a week. Being from Hawaii i guess our expectations are too high. The waitress was not nice, I have been to this place before and the server was great, my girls lost their grandpa the day before, and the server was mean to them as well, we just wanted to go have a good happy experience forget about the day and have some great sushi. She seemed overwhelmed, i am a former waitress when you are stressed out you dont show it, and always be pleasant to people you dont know what people are going through and always be nice to children. We will just stick to the sushi house. The salad was excellent! It wasnt worth 70 bucks, I only ate the sashimi in the end because it was expensive. The server didnt even ask why we were eating!

Decided to stop by on a wednesday night because i was craving sushi, this was nearby, and because this was recommended by bobby flay. There is a parking lot but be aware they share it with several businesses including a busy yoga studio making it virtually impossible to park in either of their lots. We ended up parking on a random street and walked a block over. The menu is very slim and frankly and pretty pricey but sooooo good. We ended up ordering the sushi combo for 2 which includes 2 soups and 2 salads. I really enjoyed the salad which was really flavorful with the dressing. The miso soup is apparently made from scratch and was tasty! The tofu in it was super soft and melted in my mouth. This is quite possibly the best spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls ive ever had. They season is soooo perfectly it totally is like spicy tuna rolls/spicy salmon rolls on crack. Amongst my favorite nigiris were the escolar(no clue what this even is, just that its bomb AF) and the melt in your mouth salmon. I could have probably eaten this whole plate on my own. Def check it out!

This was my most recent stop on a never ending search to find a go-to sushi place in the Culver City area. Location: Located in a strip mall. Good parking. Not many seats and not a real sushi bar vibe but still cute Service: I don’t think there was a single Japanese person working there… but overall the service was great. Our waiter was fun and cool and the woman making the sushi was sweet and seemed to know what she was doing Drinks: BYOB! Say what??? I asked for their beer options and was told they don’t have a liquor license(which was a bit of a bummer) but then the waiter then told me I could bring in my own drinks and even pointed out the 7⁄11 across the street as an option. Totally took advantage of it and made a quick run over to grab some beers! Food: We went with the sushi combination C8 — meal for 2 it came with 2 pieces of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore and ono and your choice of 2 rolls(we chose spicy salmon and spicy tuna) As far as the fish goes it was a bit hit and miss. The ono was delish! as was the Salmon. The yellowtail and albacore were just whatever. The spicy tuna was wayyy tooo spicy! The spicy salmon was fantastic!!! We ended up ordering another round of ono because it was so good. Then I ordered the absolute best thing, Salmon belly!!! It was fantastic!!! By far my favorite of the night Value: Overall a great price for the food. Obviously not the highest grade sushi but tasty and fresh without breaking the bank

**Melt-in-your-mouth goodness.** Tucked away in an anonymous strip mall just a couple blocks north of Culver City, Sushi Central’s storefront won’t jump out at you like their flavors do. So do yourself a favor, ignore the exterior – and the interior, for that matter – and let the flavors do the talking. Chef Phillip. Yes, he may be certifiably insane, but here’s the thing: He’s all about his customers. There have been several occasions on which he has sent us a little bite of something we’ve never tried and had no intention of trying. Among my favorites: His amazing Monkfish Liver sushi. Holy crap… Talk about an eye-opener. Also known as «the foie gras of the sea,» monkfish liver is much lighter and more delicate than its nickname implies. Just know that the monkfish liver at Sushi Central will change the way you think about fish livers. The quality of the fish here is quite good. It’s not legendary, but I’ll be damned if I had anything the LEAST bit fishy from here. In fact, every piece of sushi I’ve had here has been consistently fresh. Rice. For me, sushi rice is almost a fetish. I’m obsessed with high-quality, well-bred(like genuine Koshihikari) and perfectly cooked rice. While the rice here is flavorful and well-cooked, it’s not as consistent as the fish. That being said, I’ve only had one experience where the rice was notably off.(If you’re wondering what I consider to be great rice, I have one name for you: Nozawa.) THESCCOMBO.( ) Hamachi, Maguro, Lightly broiled Ono, Albacore, and Salmon. Served with miso soup, house salad, and your choice of Spicy Tuna or California Roll( ). This combo is my go-to. I know that omakase is the«way to go,» but I have neither the time nor the appetite to step up to the omakase just yet. In time, I will have to try it. It should be noted that the Spicy Tuna roll here is among the freshest, boldest, and brightest I’ve ever had; an indeterminate«coffee-like» flavor ties the roll together. Marvelous. The house salad( ) has a salad dressing almost exactly the same as Taiko, in Brentwood. Think of something in the range of a more savory Benihana dressing with better body. You can buy this stuff by the bottle. And I do. GREAT as both a salad dressing and a marinade or dipping sauce. Overall, this place kicks a whole bunch of ass for what is(let’s face it) a strip mall sushi joint. Service waxes and wanes, but the food is always reliably and consistently delicious. Even the teriyaki chicken is thoughtfully executed. I’m telling you, this dude makes some killer food. They’re open for lunch. They’re closed for a minute to prep for dinner and then they’re back open. Yes, they take credit cards. Parking is hit and miss, depending whether or not the yoga studio upstairs is in full-swing. NOCORKAGEFEE… BYOB! Yeah… I shit you not. Bring your own booze… It’s all good. They won’t charge you a dime. Just be prepared to toast a glass with Chef Phillip. To do anything less would be rather uncivilized.

This is a damn solid sushi place. Not the whole sit down at a table and wait to be served sushi from a piece of paper with pencils and checkboxes. I’m talking about sit at the bar with the sushi chef, have a conversation and let him serve some fresh sushi based on mutual suggestions and stories. He’s a cool old school cat who makes sushi the right way. Likes to educate you and will even correct you on etiquette or eating style if he feels you’re not doing it right. Would come back again for sure

Not impressed. Service was slow. Really slow. The sushi was ok. I’ve had better and bigger portions at other places for a whole lot less. I’m not too picky about price because I won’t mind if the sushi and wasabi is on point, but this place is mediocre and shouldn’t have came out to an $ 80 bill especially if their Philadelphia roll isn’t even decent. Wasabi is big for me. I thrive for that taste and love it when it’s strong enough that I feel it come through my nostrils. Was not even close to that no matter how much I added.

Had a craving for something spicy yet light what better than a good local sushi joint :) . Haven’t been here for a while now, but they still have the best sushi rolls for a small homely sushi spot. Had their spicy tuna rolls, California rolls and salmon rolls, tuna rolls are the best. The fish is really fresh you can taste the freshness which makes a huge difference for a good sushi. All in all I’m happy and contended, this spot has made it back to my top 10 local Favs list :)

SC’s is a must-stop-in-many-times-a-week sorta sushi place. Who doesn’t appreciate owners and chiefs obsessing about high quality ingredients and unique flavor profiles at an affordable price point? Well, the regulars that frequent SC would let you know that consistency day in and out, year after year, is why I needed to AND you(review reader) need to stop on in. You can find many places that offer the typical. So I’m not saying that SC’s menu is filled with items that you can’t understand or pronounce or… you need an app to help you translate them. Entrees of chicken teriyaki and korean BBQ short ribs can certainly be found here if you’re not a fish eater OR if you need some other fare to partner up with your tasty sushi or sashimi. But, I’m telling you that the entrees are fresh and tasty. Yum. Oh my though, the salad you get with entrees comes with a homemade SC special dressing that is OUTOFTHISWORLD. Really so popular that you can buy a bottle of it there! Sigh. Ok, now the sushi. You can find the typical AND atypical here. My friends and I tried the barracuda. What? It was delicious. The spicy yellowtail roll was also super tasty. I appreciated that it wasn’t overly saucy or spicy where I can’t taste the freshness of the fish. My other friend had the blue crab roll. Fresh as can be. And, she has major food allergies so the chef accommodated all of her needs with the sauces that she couldn’t have with alternatives that she could. Awesome. Happily, without question. Another friend had the salmon salad that was not only beautiful when served but super yummy and fresh as well. Family friendly and 5 star service! Really can’t say enough about their above and beyond service. At the corner of Palms and Overland, it’s conveniently located but parking may be a bit tricky. If you can’t get into the lot, don’t let that dissuade you from stopping in. Try the street parking.

Omakase, the chef, is no longer — and while the remaining chefs have implemented his ways and methods, it doesn’t have that je né sais quoi. A strip mall location(and it feels like it), one shouldn’t be charged top dollar for sushi — it just not worth it. If you are in the neighborhood, at the yoga studio or picking up your dry cleaning, then it’s worth your while.

We had the grilled ono sushi. It was delicious! It was smoky. It was buttery. The house«crack» sauce went very nicely with the sushi. In fact, they recommend you not to dip your nigiri sushi in soy sauce. It was a good recommendation. For the rest of our meal, we ordered the C4 combo, which came with a spicy tuna roll, a spicy shrimp roll, and a spicy salmon roll. We also ordered a spicy albacore roll. We started with green tea. It was served in a really nice ceramic cup, but it was tea in a bag, for $ 2.50. I thought the price was a bit extreme. You can buy about 32 bags of tea from Trader Joe’s for the same price. Anyway, the sushi rolls were decently good. The spicy tuna roll was my favorite. The tuna was really fatty and buttery. It was nicely spiced, too. I really enjoyed it. I could have gone without the spicy shrimp roll. It wasn’t spicy at all. In fact, it was incredibly salty. There wasn’t enough sauce. I wouldn’t order it again. As for the spicy salmon roll, it was good, but it wasn’t spicy. There were some nice pieces of salmon in it. The spicy albacore roll was yummy. We both love albacore. It was pretty good. The service was okay. Our waiter was very friendly. He seemed really interested in our opinions of the food. He recommended the ono, which was lovely. He also told us about the house sauce on the nigiri sushi. If I come back here again, I will probably focus on ordering nigiri, but I might have to save up. The nigiri sushi average abotu $ 5 for 2 pieces. It’s extremely pricey. Parking is great. There’s a small lot in the same strip mall, and it’s free.
