I was definitely impressed and satisfied. Ive been having mediocre sushi lately, I almost forgot what good sushi tasted like. Thank you Sushi H for fixing my craving! I came by myself so I got seated promptly at the bar. It was a full house so I doubt you’ll get a table right away if coming with a group. I ordered the yellowtail carpaccio with jalapeños, salmon with wasabi, and uni and loved it all. The yellowtail was thinly sliced with ponzu sauce and bits of jalapeños and onions. It was amazing! The salmon and uni melted in my mouth. I was omging the entire time I was eating. The items are listed under house specials or chefs specials. Parking wasn’t too bad. There’s a neighborhood right behind the restaurant so I parked there and walked. I’d walk for sushi. Run even. I’m definitely coming back and trying the whole menu!

Sushi by H is a real hidden gem. Actually, judging by the amount of patrons, they aren’t hidden at all. I called in the morning for a reservation and they could barely squeeze us in for a dinner reservation at 7:30pm. The fish is of high quality and it’s definitely not the cheapest but a great deal for the price. The service is also pretty fast. We got our food quickly despite the restaurant being so busy. I really enjoyed trying Ono for the first time. I had the Ono nigiri and the fish tasted quite buttery. It was delicious. I also enjoyed the amaebi because the miso soup that we requested to have with the shrimp head was really good. The price for 2 was about $ 100 after tax and tip. It’s definitely not expensive and we were stuffed.

This place is great. Haru makes some of the best sushi in town. Always fresh and prepared with love. Great Green Tea, Fatty Tuna, Lava Stone and the Cirashi Bowl is my favorite. Reservations are recommended for parties over 2.

Fatty Tuna Market price: $ 29/2orders(14.50 per 2 piece or 1 order). Cut of the fatty tuna is not the greatest quality. Most likely the chutoro cut instead of the otoro cut of fatty tuna. There is not as much fat like we’re used to. My boyfriend who spends 90% of the year in Japan and eats sushi pretty much everyday rates the toro a 7 Salmon 2 piece Difficult to mess up salmon so nothing too special here. Star for the small dollop of wasabi between the rice and salmon which is how it is traditionally served in Japan. Shrimp tempura $ 9/order Tastes and looks exactly like the frozen shrimp tempura you get from the frozen aisle at Costco. The size is small(not as long as other sushi places. You get about 5 pieces for $ 9. Not worth it. It’s more dough than shrimp. If their rolls are made with shrimp tempura, I would stay away also. Seared scallops $ 6.80/2pcs Good quality scallop. Also has a layer wasabi. A bit pricey. Recommended if you like scallops and don’t mind the price. $ 69(before tip) lunch was a bit steep for decent sushi. Took my BF here since he was missing sushi while he was in LA and wanted to give him a decent quality sushi(or at least as authentic as it gets in LA). He rates this place a 7. We’ll try Oshima Japanese Cuisine in Tustin next to compare. We’re just spoiled with $ 0.75/pp fresh high quality Salmon and Otoro when we’re in Japan.

I’d say a hidden gem in Beverly Hills/west hollywoodish area. A tip I’d give the owner is to maybe, just maybe, revamp the place? It looks so old for a spot in a boujie city. But hey, it looks like it’s working for them. Nonetheless, I loved the sushi. Super Fresh! Loved the rolls and specialty appetizers. I’d be back!

Love this place! Seriously unassuming, and in a great location(central city). We love to go early, or get a reservation — we’ve waited almost an hour to get in here, but well worth it every time. Having moved out of downtown(no longer adjacent to Little Tokyo!) we wanted to find a truly authentic sushi spot that won’t gouge the pocket book. Well we found it! Sushi by H is simply magical. We value the taste and freshness of the fish first and foremost — e’re simply not the cali sushi«fusion» types. Order anything you will be amazed, haven’t had a mediocre or poor cut of fish EVER from this place. Fantastic and attentive service too…

This is hands down my favorite sushi place in LA and in SoCal. The sushi here is absolutely amazing — fresh, melts in your mouth, and so so good! I went with my boyfriend and we ordered the following: Lava Stone Albacore Onion Mix(Sashimi Style) Fatty Tuna(aka Toro) Sushi Salmon Sushi Caterpillar Roll Seared Scallop with Lemon and Salt Everything was amazing! The lava stone, the albacore onion mix, and the fatty tuna were absolutely amazing and something special. I was a little skeptical of the lava stone because I’m not a huge fan of spicy tuna, but it’s not spicy and it’s really really good. The quality of fish here is what makes this place amazing. Even though you can get a caterpillar anywhere, the caterpillar roll here was the best one I’ve ever had because everything tasted so fresh — even the sauce tasted a little fresher and zestier. The customer service here is excellent too. Everyone was super friendly. My boyfriend and I were able to walk right in without a reservation too which was nice. This place isn’t that big but it was completely packed. Parking was easy too — it’s street parking but it’s right in front of the restaurant so that’s nice. I highly recommend that you go to this place! You won’t regret it.

Love sushi by H! I’ve actually never dined in as it is always crowded but I usually get pick up. We have gotten the albacore with fried onion(bomb!!!), salmon, avocado n cucumber, samurai and a few others. I would love to dine in sometimes and try their other sushi at it would be better served right away! The fish quality is superb. Not a fan of super fishy fish(that’s usually a sign that it’s not fresh from what I heard) but it’s not the case with sushi by H.

I read so many reviews and saw high Unilocal ratings and thought ok I gotta try this place out… Sushi was good but definitely not great. I’m actually very shocked at how high ratings are considering that there are so many other sushi places out there with way better food. I ordered several sushi plates but one that stuck out was this rice ball thingy that was so hard yet chewy. It literally got stuck in my teeth, I seriously have no idea why they would make it so hard to eat. I also ordered the sashimi plate with rice. There wasn’t much sashimi for that price I must say. Other places offer more fish for that price. The place is super tiny, cramped and loud. The table next to us was literally 4 inches apart from ours, making it pretty uncomfortable to have full out open conversation so your table neighbor doesn’t hear. I will say that I can understand high Unilocal ratings for the service as they are very friendly and welcoming. But other than that, go to LITTLETOYKO in Los Angeles if you want better sushi. They are plenty of sushi places to go that’s more bang for your buck.

Definitely worth going to if you’re a sushi fan and in the LA area. Went there for dinner at 8 pm on a slightly busy weekday night and only had to wait approximately 30 minutes. There is an indoor and outdoor seating area, both very nicely decorated and elegant. We ordered the yellowtail carpaccio, assorted tempura, oyster shooters, lava stone(4 pieces/order), seafood dynamite, the Incredible roll, and finally, the Red Dragon roll. The quality of the fish is outstanding; soft and fresh. The menu offers a variety of dishes if you’re not feeling sashimi all night. For example, the seafood dynamite is an oven-baked mayo, scallop, shrimp, clam, and mushroom medley that is a great accompaniment to the cold foods. For this much food that can feed 2 – 4 people, expect a bill from $ 85-$ 95. In addition to the delicious food, the service is outstanding. They’re very quick and kind, always on their feet. With a steady waitlist of people, they don’t waste any time. You can tell that customer service comes first to them. I highly, highly recommend this sushi place!

5 stars is an understatement. One of my favorite dining experiences, Sushi by H never disappoints! I have ordered take out from here often, but dining in a few days ago really refreshed my perspective on this establishment. Firstly, this place is always busy, a true testament to its service and quality. It’s a small and cozy restaurant, with outdoor seating under Christmas lights. Our server was Jimpai(probably butchered the spelling of his name — sorry!) who was great. Lively and accommodating. Throughout dining, we also met Haru, who the restaurant is named after, who was so lovely. My friend decided to order half the menu, which gave us an opportunity to try a lot of things. Everything was perfection. We started with the yellowtail and jalapeño sashimi(two orders!). The fish was perfectly coated in yuzu sauce and literally melted. Fresh and delicious. We ordered the famous Lava Stone, which I recommend for any«spicy tuna on crispy rice» lovers. This may be the best play on that popular item yet. For more adventurous sushi lovers, the black snapper with sea salt, draped over rice and a mint leaf, I believe, was incredible. I can’t wait for my next visit!

This Japanese place is awesome! I’ve it on my bookmarks forever and finally get to try it yesterday. I got their lunch special with Grilled cod and Mixed Tempura. It was one of the best grilled cod I’ve ever had, super tender and the flavor was just perfect, not too salty at all. I also loved my tempura, it was perfectly cooked and not over oily. Their mixed green salad that came with the set was also super fresh and the dressing was delicious. The value of the lunch set is unbeatable. Both of my friends got the Chirashi bowl and they loved it. We also ordered Toro Sashimi, tofu steak and salmon tempura(first time having salmon as tempura, haha). They were all great. I think they have great sauces to flavor the tempura and tofu, m. The service was very friendly and efficient. The staff there was so nice and welcoming. We got our food very fast(it says on the menu that the cod may take 20mins but we got it it quiet fast). Our iced tea was refilled in no time. Everything else on the menu looks delicious and I can’t wait to go back and try more!

TL;DR — Fresh fish. Get the yellowtail carpaccio and toro for sure! ** Went there for lunch and ordered: toro, uni, sweet shrimp, ankimo, escolar/hawaiian butterfish, yellowtail carpaccio, and the hot lava stone. The yellowtail carpaccio was perfect — fresh, doused in ponzu, and covered with chopped jalapenos. The toro was divine and melted in my mouth. The uni and sweet shrimp tasted fresh. I don’t normally get escolar but was excited to see it on the menu. I personally love it but my bf said it’s an acquired taste — he described it as gelatinous and flavorless initially with the buttery/melty texture at the end. The one(very small) drawback on flavor I had was the breading on the sweet shrimp heads and the deep fried rice in the hot lava stone being on the sweet side for my taste, though I still enjoyed both dishes immensely.

My all time favorite sushi place is Nobu. For obvious reasons Nobu isn’t a place I can frequent all the time. Lucky for me, I discovered Sushi by H. While it’s not Nobu, it’s definitely up there without the up there prices. Hands down my new favorite sushi bar. FOOD: ALLSOGOOD. Here’s what we got: Lava Stone(5⁄5 stars): Basically a spicy tuna rice cake. I might be one of the very few people who isn’t into that dish, but I always get it because everyone I go to sushi with loves it. The tuna just melts in your mouth. My friend said the rice cake was delicious as well. Yellowtail carpaccio(5⁄5 stars): so fresh with the lemon, kick of spicy with the jalapenos, and so light. The fish just melts in your mouth. I could’ve eaten several plates of this. Incredible roll(5⁄5 stars): We asked for raw salmon instead of seared on this and they happily obliged. SOGOOD. All that a roll should be with the spiciness of the sauce, the freshness of the fish, and the heartiness of it all. Albacore onion roll(3⁄5 stars): Not bad, but not our favorite thing. Green tea(5⁄5 stars): A really good green tea. I’m pretty sure it’s made from good matcha; you can taste it. They are really fast with the refills and I drank way more caffiene than I should’ve that late at night. SERVICE: Not to over generalize, but service is usually lacking at sushi bars. Not the case here. Super friendly, VERY attentive, and our orders came out quickly. My friend and I hogged the table as we caught up for an hour after our food was finished and we didn’t feel rushed or like they were ready for us to leave at all. AMBIANCE: It’s a little sushi bar. Not a lot of ambiance is expected, but they have a cute little indoor/outdoor hybrid patio with string lights. If you’re a sushi fan you owe it to yourself to try this place!

My foodie friend and I had dinner plans after work and while we were trying to decide where to go, she(luckily) came across Sushi by H. Neither of us had been before but seeing all the good reviews, we thought to give it a try. So happy we did! Because after experiencing the delicious food, fresh fish, and awesome service, I may have found my new favorite sushi spot on the West Side. Things were off to a good start even before we entered the restaurant… because parking was SO easy. That almost never happens in this part of town so it was such a welcome surprise. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the super friendly staff and got seated right away. Again, this almost never happens in a crowded LA restaurant but no complains here! In order of my favorites, we ordered the Yellowtail Carpaccio, Incredible Roll, Lava Stone, and Albacore Onion Roll. I can’t talk enough about how FRESH and DELICIOUS the Yellowtail Carpaccio was. It just melted in my mouth & each bite was more delicious than the last. The Incredible Roll was true to its name and was really, really incredible. The sauces worked so well together, making a taste I hadn’t experienced before with sushi(and I eat A LOT of sushi). Lava Stone is hard to mess up. Deep fried rice — good… Spicy tuna on top — good… It’s a classic & it was done well at Sushi by H. The Albacore Onion Roll was my least favorite compared to everything else but it wast still very tasty in its own right & I’d get it again when I come back. Come experience this culinary delight for yourself. You will be happy you did!

Sushi by H is a perfect balance between flavor, freshness, and price! Came here with two friends last night and all we said the whole night was«oooh» «ahhh» «yum» «mmmm» We ordered a bunch of things & then shared them! We all agreed that two of the absolute best items were the San Vicente Roll & the Lava Stone. As soon as we sat down, it seemed like they had already started bringing our sushi out! Love love this little place & the staff. The owner/chef Haru has the best personality and she was the cutest! The other reviews here on Unilocal are well deserved, so definitely forget about other lousy sushi places & stop by Sushi by H!

A must visit. A must repeat. Authentic high quality sushi. True to tradition, the yellow tail carpaccio was divine. Not fishy but FRESH, light and flavorful. The lava crab hand roll was OUT of the world it is simply incredible… No sauces needed it speaks for itself. Great service 5⁄5; ambience is insanely beautiful and intimate 5:5 chocolate cake dessert was scrumptious and so was the Banana fritters. My hubby devoured the spicy tuna avacado onion roll and is beaming– him happy is me happy and ALSO means it’s really great food. A definite winner.

Meter parking on the front side of the restaurant. Small place. Very crowded when I went on a Tuesday night. People made reservations, which is understandable due to the size of the place. I ordered the lava stone and my friend ordered the dragon roll. I’d have to say that both were pretty good. Perfect amount of spiciness. I loved my lava stone because of the fried rice on the bottom of the spicy tuna. Fish was also very fresh. Definitely an expensive place. $ 5 for a small bowl of edamame.
