I look forward to eating at Sunrise as often as possible. The food is so delicious and an excellent value. Tadig two toppings costs around $ 9 and can feed a family. The barberry rice is tart but creamy, light and fluffy. Chicken koobideh is addicting and we’ve never been unhappy with any of the Persian specialties.(Parve) «doog» is a bit strange but that’s probably because I didn’t grow up with it. Also, order over the phone with caution — they often get take-out orders wrong(unless you speak Farsi). But this place is utterly delicious and a real gem in the neighborhood.

When the waitress asked us what we’d like to order, my cousin started talking, but the waitress was now busy chatting with people she knew, who were sitting at the neighboring table. Waters were left un-refilled the whole time(I know that this might be a new LA law, but nobody even came by so we could ask that they be refilled). My eggplant stew tasted like pure sugar cane. My husband enjoyed his burger, and my cousin liked her chicken kabob, so some of the food is good, hence the extra star. We ordered three orders of baklava to go, and they gave us 2 small pieces of zoolbia(similar to jalebi) in 1 box. When we politely told them that we had ordered baklava, the waitress thought for a few seconds before saying«this is the Persian version of baklava.» Um, your own menu states that your baklava has walnuts, almonds, and pistachios, and the dessert was clearly orange-colored fried dough with rosewater and no(not even ground) nuts. Bottom line: Some of the food is good, they give you a giant fresh salad with creamy dill dressing in the beginning, portions are big, and the décor is pretty(there’s a fountain in the middle of the restaurant). But the service sucks, and so does some of the food. I’d say to stick with kabobs and burgers, avoid desserts, and unabashedly use a coupon.

I was pretty disappointed in their Greek salad… I did not try any other menu items, though they all sounded great. The menu stated that the greek salad came with kidney beans, walnuts, dates, raisins(doesn’t that sound wonderful!) along with the usual, tomatoes, cucumber, etc. And it was supposed to have a lime juice and olive oil dressing. Instead, I received a giant load of iceberg and romaine lettuce, topped with about 6 strips of red pepper, 10 – 12 pieces of cucumber, a few kalamata olives, and a few blanched almonds. The dressing tasted like ranch dressing with dill added. No raisins, dates, walnuts or kidney beans. It did come with some very fresh wonderful bread, but I doubt I’ll ever go back to try anything else.

Very authentic and delicious Persian food! I would highly recommend the rice with cherries in it – absolutely delicious. The restaurant is also VERY gluten free friendly. I ordered the chicken koobideh and it was great!
