Sorry, Sun Valley Park, but you’re a bit too ghetto for me. I went here once because I unfortunately live nearby, and although it wasn’t horrific, and parking was easy, I doubt I’ll ever be back. It’s just not the nicest environment, frankly. If you’re looking for a picnic spot, head over to Cabrini Park instead, or even Brace Canyon or McCambridge. All superior for safe family time and strolling.

Excellent programs and dedicated knowledgeable staff. this parks programs do a lot for its community. We drive all the way out from Burbank for their very reasonably priced youth sports programs, swimming pool and free classes for kids. As for soccer I have three words. ASTROTURFFIELD! My daughter is glad to have the opportunity to play on it! She is only 8 but she said it makes her feel like a pro. Thanks!

UPDATESUMMER2014 Please call ahead because I hear there is an increase in prices and no longer a library card discount. SUNVALLEYPARK, one of the City of Los Angeles properties, is known only to the very locals. ITS A WELLKEPTSECRET to everyone else. There are a lot of activities for kids going on at the Rec Center at this park and A HUGESWIMMINGPOOL that is open for a short summer season BUTEXTREMELYUNDERUSED. Seriously, it could be 110 degrees out and there’s maybe 3 people in the pool. That means THEREIS A LOTOFSPACEFORSWIMMING! You won’t be colliding with people and you can get fancy and do some strokes you can’t sharing a crowded swim lane. On a hot day that water looks so inviting! THEYHAVE A WHIRLYSLIDE and ADULTS as well as children AREALLOWEDTOGOWOOSHINGDOWNIT! ANOTHERSTRONGPLUS to Sun Valley Park and Rec Center is the NATIVEAMERICANDANCEGROUP that meets there for practice and participation. You hear the drums beat, smell the sage burniing, and these people have such almost unbelievable stamina that they are all going to live to a wise old age. Even watching is inspiring. You can join in! A negative is that Sun Valley Park is feared because of a sizable street homeless population nearbye and reportedly drug dealing. I was afraid of this park because of this too, but if you have your good reason for being around, you probably won’t get into any trouble by association. POOL is $ 2.50 a swim and only $ 2.00 with an LAPL library card. DISABLEDFREE. Ladies lockerroom is bare minimum. COLDSHOWERSONLY! Yeeeeow!
