Sugar Mama’s Gourmet Cupcakes

Fantastic customer service and great cupcakes! I called last-​second to have them deliver birthday cupcakes and they were prompt and kept me updated on the delivery process the entire time. They even sent pictures of the final product right before delivery. I will certainly be going back to them for future orders.

GREAT experience with this place. I placed an order that ended up being pretty far out of their delivery range. The cupcakes got there and were great (client LOVED them) but in addition to the only slight delay, the owner dropped off 24 mini cupcakes at my office the next day free of charge!
Also, the cupcake with the cookie dough on the inside was maybe the best thing I’ve ever eaten in my life. 5 Stars, love this place!

Don’t look further-​Go directly to Sugar Mama’s!!! From the moment I called (on a Sunday night), I was treated warmly and special. The cupcakes were gorgeous, delicious and were delivered as a perfect surprise. Sugar Mama’s is personal with every detail-​hand written notes, pictures of the cupcakes sent. I live in San Diego and had these delivered in Los Angeles and Sugar Mama kept in touch every step of the way. She is amazing. Her cupcakes and her service are delivered with true love! She made my daughter’s birthday perfect. I love Sugar Mama’s!

Had a great experience with the customer service. I read some of the reviews and was skeptical at first, but I was happy I ordered cupcakes from here instead of flowers or some thing from somewhere else. The woman on the phone made me smile and said she could deliver cupcakes until late evening (awesome)! She also texted me a taste card of the cupcakes, which I thought was really helpful and a nice personal touch.
I called this morning and she happened to have a dozen fresh cupcakes that could be delivered to my girlfriend for our anniversary. She even asked me to text her a message which she included with the cupcakes on a hand written note (sweet)!
She gave me the delivery window options and they were delivered right at the end of the window, but still made it. My girlfriend loved the cupcakes and appreciated that it was a local business. I can’t wait to try them, too!

But I was in a jam & needed a thank you for a client so called them evening of ¹¹⁄₉. Hung up before anyone answered when I realized they needed orders in 24 hrs in advance. Immediately was called back by 310−800−0726 saying she could definitely make it happen. I said it might be easier if I stopped by in the morning & picked out some ready made cupcakes instead, because the window for delivery was a small one, 9 – 11 am the next day and I was afraid they wouldn’t be able to do it. She INSISTED they could make it happen and told me they don’t have a store front right now, that they were «in transition» (wtf??). I was nervous about it, but ordered anyway – big mistake.
I sent my delivery address, and reiterated that they had to get there by 11 am at latest, so really, delivery should be made 10:30/10:45 am. Morning of ¹¹⁄₁₀ I called at 9:30 am to remind her of the delivery time and make sure we were good. 9:45 am she texted me saying she’d let me know when they went out, and that they were going out from old Pasadena (40 minutes away from their final destination). Nervous again. By 10:20 am I still hadn’t heard that the cupcakes had been sent out, so pointed out that Pasadena was a 40 mins drive away. I got a text response at 10:40 saying «Let us know if you still want us to attempt delivery don’t want there to be an issue. We are in process of loading the car with other cupcake orders that are going in that direction Emily my apologies.» OK, so clearly they’re not making it.
I call and ask what happened – why, after they practically begged me for my business, promising multiple times it could be done, were these cupcakes not going to be delivered on time? Liz on the other end insisted they were on their way, that they were going to make it, that the fact that I got a 10:40 am text saying they were JUST loading in Pasadena was «neither here nor there» and do I just want them to cancel the order? Well, if they’re actually going to make it, then no, don’t cancel. But if there aren’t making it, which I have every reason to believe they’re not, then yes, we’ll have to cancel, no redelivery, full refund. I tried over and over again to say this simple sentence to her while she interrupted and spoke over me at every turn, getting more and more upset and huffy, until finally she screamed into the phone «THEN I’LL REFUND IT AND FUCK YOU!» and hung up the phone.
Um, OK PSYCHO. This place is obviously a total joke run by an incompetent, bratty child-​woman. I now interpret their «in transition» comment as, we probably lost our store front because we’re a terrible business run by someone who suffers from extreme rudeness and lack of manners, or both.
DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. DEALING WITH THESE PEOPLE HAS BEEN INSANITY. No cupcake is worth dealing with psychos, and no customer should have to be screamed at before 11 am on Tuesday, or ever.

I recently called Elizabeth and ordered a dozen cupcakes to be delivered to my daughters work place. It was her birthday so I was looking for something special. These cupcakes were so delicious and Elizabeth the owner was so helpful and sweet. She is launching a new product that’s a cake in a jar, so she threw in a couple of these for me to try. All delicious-​and I highly recommend this place.

Met the beautiful owner and had both the dulce de leche/​cookies & crème. absolutely delicious. No aftermath guilt for my diet

I enjoy their cupcakes and their ice cream. I’ve had most of their cupcakes but their seasonal cupcakes are my favorites. I enjoy the way the change their options and their menu is rotating.

Elizabeth is incredible! I called yesterday afternoon which was a Sunday and didn’t expect anyone to answer. She answered and said of course she could make a dozen cupcakes and deliver them by this morning! I was elated! I love that she texts her customers with updates, ideas and photos. It makes things a lot easier seeing as though things can be lost in translation over the phone. I had her cupcakes before but didn’t realize they were actually hers. She customized the cupcakes so they didn’t contain nuts or coconut due to some allergies. Moist is my least favorite word in the English language but that and delicious is the only way to describe the cupcakes. The Oreo one is by far my favorite. We will already be using her twice next month! Best cupcakes in LA and WAY above Sprinkles.

I ran across Sugar Mama’s by mistake a few years ago, but boy was I sure blessed by these cupcakes. First we were in LA for a funeral, which is already a sad occasion. Throw in the fact that it was for a child and it was Thanksgiving, too, and you will get a sense of the mood at the house. Luckily, the thought of cupcakes came to me (from God?) plus I love them and also know how great good food can sometimes lighten the mood and comfort us through difficult times, so I went for it. In no time, our family and friends were smiling and laughing again. The kids, running around and playing. These cupcakes were a ‘God-​send” to us!
The owner was lovely, very personable, polite and surprisingly humble, as she was on her way to deliver cupcakes at Miley Cyrus’s house. :) OMG! She took my order by phone while clearly describing each flavor I inquired about; branched out of her comfort zone by making a custom special flavor for me and then hand delivered them to us herself! A ‘God-​send’ is what I call Sugar Mama’s-keep up the good work! Can’t wait to come back and try the new flavors.

My mom ordered me a cake for my birthday because she lives in FL and wanted to make sure I felt loved all the way in Hollywood. Sugar Mama’s was very helpful and kind towards my mom and worked with both of us to find an appropriate time for me to receive the cake. I had to switch the time and arrival destination on a few instances the day of my birthday and the woman on the phone was accommodating and pleasant and assured me it was fine. The cake is delicious and I’ve been eating it repeatedly. This is a quality establishment with excellent customer service and exquisite desserts. I very highly recommend trying Sugar Mama’s!

It’s a scam. $ 66 bucks for one dozen cupcakes delivered? Their delivery driver doesn’t even deliver to a person leaves cupcakes on a porch and then we never receive cupcakes. They never called me back about what they could do for me. I was so excited to try these cupcakes they looked great. But bad business skills and ethics will probably destroy this business. Would it really cost you that much to replace an item if someone honestly did not receive. Bullshit. Now I’m out $ 66 dollars. Terrible customer service. I will never recommend you to anyone and I’ll let everyone know how you stole my money.

LOVED these cupcakes! I’m craving more. Anyone seeking cupcakes… these are it. Presentation is great but the flavor is amazing as well.

These cupcakes are a taste of heaven, there amazing «WARNING» highly addictive… Can’t wait till you deliver to MIAMI. Keep calm and keep on baking…

Cupcakes might be good but Liz is a mess. Bad customer service, tons of excuses and lack of communication. If Liz saw this post, I’m sure she’d tell you a million reasons why she’s incapable of fulfilling an order and many of them would be my fault. At the end of the day if you want a debate and a cupcake than this is the place for you.
To update my review. I was home at the scheduled time. After they missed their delivery time by 30 minutes — I called and said I was leaving the house. I never heard back. I called back 3 hrs later and they told me the driver was running behind if I never followed up, I wouldn’t have gotten a response. They set up a new time. Then 20 minutes before that delivery window they cancelled again blaming SuperBowl Sunday. Keep In mind they deliver till 11pm and the Super Bowl ended at 8pm. Then some how in the process blamed me.

Does anybody know what’s going on with this business? The website says they’re closed for maintenance, and the phone number goes to a mailbox that’s full. Are they closed for good?

No doubt, these desserts are delish. But, this is a cautionary cupcake tale.
I ordered 12 cupcakes for a friend who is a dulce de leche fanatic. 6 of the 12 were to be dulce de leche, but we only got 2 of 12. Liz apologized and said they would send over 4 dulce de leche the next day to make up for it. Not exactly timely, but at least she’s making amends. The cupcakes never came.
I called Liz again who spins into an emotional tirade of why she cannot deliver the cupcakes. (Ummm, you offered…) Once she calmed down, we decided that a credit to my card would be more appropriate. The credit never posted.
Aside from being very pricey cupcakes ($ 68.04/doz w/​o tip), Sugar Mama’s Gourmet Cupcakes just isn’t worth it. Liz seems to be a sweet lady who doesn’t know how to run a business.
