Lovely little place, I got the make your own plate with Caesar salad, salmon, and Cous Cous. And it was delicious!!! Will be back for more

Love Simplethings! Was a bit disappointed today when I ordered the Chef’s special soup. Not sure what it was… green, and cold. :/Was looking forward to something warm, and delicious for this gloomy day.

I tried this place once with friends when it first opened, and thought the food was sub-par(especially considering the price). I gave the food another chance at a catered event, and I’m afraid that my initial opinion stands. The Sweet Potato sandwich I had this time was disgusting; the flavor of the filling and the pretzel roll all tasted sour. The pies, though adorable, were far too sweet. Simply put, simplethings’ menu disappoints time and time again.

Great food most of the time but was really grossed out by this. This place is usually spotless but this time the floor was covered in food and it kinda smelled. Hopefully I don’t get sick — salads had wilted lettuce and cold chicken.

Super cute café with a lot of good sounding sandwiches. I don’t mind more expensive sandwiches with fresh ingredients,(love Mendocino farms) but unfortunately this place wasn’t worth the price tag. The Thanksgiving sandwich that I got was mushy and salty, and the cranberry relish didn’t have the tartness that makes Thanksgiving sandwiches balanced. The side Caesar was fine but not worth the extra charge. They don’t have wifi here, which I can accept since they’re small and probably want to flip tables. However, I was bothered by the fact that when you pay via their ipad, they automatically assume 15% tip. You can change this to no or a lesser tip, and usually when i dine in I tip more(usually 20%) but this shouldn’t be the default, especially when a lot of orders are to-go. It seems like their salads and desserts have better reviews, and look better. I’m willing to give them another chance and update this rating, but I’m in no rush to do so with so many other choices when I visit Westwood.

I stopped by here on a Saturday morning for a quick brunch before heading to work. There wasn’t much of a line, enough seating(we sat outdoors since it was such a nice day), and we got our food quickly. There were at least 5 good vegetarian entrée options, and I took advantage of the weekend to order from their special brunch menu. I ordered the vegetarian breakfast sandwich(scrambled egg whites, roasted peppers, scallions, arugula, sweet potato pancake, dilled crème fraîche, michetti roll). I wasn’t sure what to expect since there were so many different ingredients and I wasn’t sure how they’d mesh together, but the sandwich, which was a generous serving size, was actually really tasty. It was a nice blend of flavors without being too intense, and I felt full but not stuffed at the end(=no food coma), which was nice. I’d definitely get it again. My only negative critique of this place was the pie that we ordered. We got the mini mud pie, which was basically like a brownie with a toasted marshmallow on top of it. It looked cute, but was kind of dry and a bit hard to break pieces from. I wouldn’t get that again, but I’d be open to try another one of their several pies, which did look good. Maybe it’s just this one that we ordered. Overall, a good entrée and a good place to grab a quick bite in Westwood Village.

My first experience here wasn’t as pleasant as I thought it would be. Passing by this establishment numerous of times, I decided to try it out, considering i’ve been bored with my lunch selections for the last 3 weeks. Let me tell you, don’t hold any expectations. And I think going there the first thing they open, is like trying to cold start an old 50’s car, they need to warm up to hopefully get better QC going. My fried chix sandwhich was fried beyond repair. IF anything it felt like some hobo’s left over shoe soles, biting into it. Plus for the amount and size, would of thought you’d get a bigger sandwich. The bread seemed underwelming, and almost not completely baked. I also ordered the chef’s special soup, which was a hearty bacon corn chowder. It was OK, but very watery. I would of expected it to be a bit thicker or creamier. Although it was smoky and packed with bacon, i didn’t get alot of «corn» in it as well. Trust me, Campbells soup had better consistency that this soup. To top it off, I ordered a keylime pie. Let me tell you, for one with a sweet tooth, this pie didn’t meet my expectations either. The lime flavor was pretty much all coming from the wedge you get. I’ve had some bomb keylime pies, and many of them packed alot of lime punch from the custard itself.(Hell i can go get keylimes from my best friends mom’s tree she has in her backyard and make one that tasts better!) The crust was good, but it seemed there was too much sugar as i felt like i was eating crushed sugar candy. Im more forgiving here, but they need to do a better job in raising their quality and attention at this location(I have yet to try the other locations) I’m the type that usually tries a restaurant a 2nd time around, unless they did horrible. Simplethings was close, but i’ll definitely give them one more chance,(and try something else other than what I ordered previous) and hopefully have a better outcome, otherwise, it’ll be a 1 star form them the next time around.

Self-seating Order/pay at counter No restroom My favorites include: Thanksgiving Dinner Tuna Melt Breakfast Sandwich Soup du Jour and Caesar salads are hit or miss. As far as soups go, I’ve tried the Corn Chowder and the Tomato soup. Corn Chowder was hearty with huge chunks of potato. Tomato soup was perfect and should’ve been served with a grilled cheese sandwich. As far as sandwiches are concerned, I wasn’t too pleased with the Chicken Press or the Avocado Melt. Chicken Press didn’t utilize a big enough piece of chicken to cover the bread and the Avocado melt was overpowered by the bleu cheese and apricot chutney. I would’ve preferred for the avocado to shine through. Seating will be limited during lunch hours but tables clear up rather quickly. Water, serviceware, and napkins are all self-service and located just inside the doorway. Food quality is top notch but there are some misses on the menu. Just ask whomever is at the counter what their favorites are and you should be fine. You should only plan on being adventurous if you plan on being a frequent visitor. Hey Big Tuna…

Cute little restaurant, well at least for this location. This location offers indoor and outdoor seating, I suggest outdoor because it’s very compact inside. Anyway you order inside, get a number and pick your seating. Utensils are located on the side; napkins, forks, knives, spoons, and cups. Food didn’t take long to arrive. This is maybe my third time here in a period of one year. I ordered the chicken avocado sandwich and mac and cheese and my friend ordered a chicken salad. This is just my experience, but the food was very dry especially the chicken and my friend agreed. It really is simple and very bland. My friend didn’t finish the salad it had no taste. Mac and cheese wasn’t so good either and a bit cold.

This is great teenie place! I have stopped by four times now and their service seems to counter their great tasting food every time. Why guys? Come on get it together! I really liked all of their soups, they are very hearty and flavorful. Their sandwiches are also great! Especially the chipotle sandwich! Definitely don’t order the albacore salad. It is a salad with some canned albacore – I’m sure you can whip that up at your home for under 4 bucks. For desserts, I love their key lime pie: D. Pure heaven. I recommend this place for the food, not the customer service. Anyhow this is more for management to review — — – I have ordered online 3 times. The first, was my mistake… sort of. I ordered my salad with a soup and they gave me the wrong salad, my mistake was not checking the contents before leaving. Second time, my order wasn’t processed until I arrived. That was 15 minutes after the fact, so it took them 30 minutes all together. I got to the office and they gave me the wrong soup. I walked back told them, they poured a new one, and again gave me the wrong one. You’d figure I’d lose my marbles, but I just made a face like«are you serious?» then said«that’s fine forget it.» Third time, I showed up 20 mins after I ordered and the girl said she barely received it. Not sure if they cue it every so often or if these online orders come in as soon as it ordered by the customer. Whatever the case, I placed my order at 12:08pm and I walked out of there at 12:46pm. As I waited, another lady placed an order via LA Bite and they were so rude to her. The lady told a Hispanic employee if they had her order and the girl said ‘no’ as she tried to show her cellphone containing the order. The lady then asked if she intended on calling them and she replies«I am not going to call them. I am very busy right now. I didn’t receive your order» and turned her back to her. If were them, I’d call LA Bite to get the order and most importantly her business! Again, the food is delicious, but the customer service and their online order handling needs improvement.

It’s small and cute, and the little pies look delicious, so it’s fun and cozy to go inside on a cool winter day. My friend and I shared two sandwiches – the roast beef, and the sweet potato. The roast beef was entirely unremarkable(though the bread was tasty) and the sweet potato was very good and unique, though I don’t know that I could have eaten a whole one. Really liked the pretzel bun. Thought it was a bit on the pricy side given that the sandwiches come a la carte. Glad I tried it, but the only reason I’d probably return is to try the special gingerbread pie that looked so amazing.

Maybe 3.5… For their cute little mini pies that are so adorable and a teaser but perfect enough after a meal. I tried the key lime which was not overly sweet with condensed milk and had a little tang to it. And the pumpkin streusel was okay… I felt it needed more pumpkin flavor. Each pie was $ 3 and each pie is like 2 big bites. Check online for the pie flavors of the day. Next time I’m in the area I’ll try out their sandwiches. The place is small and about 4 to 5 couple tables inside, opt for the outside patio if you have more people.

The best little pies made fresh every day. Admittedly I really just come here for mini pies, but is that really a problem? Make sure that you know what day they make your favorite pie, because they do not make every flavor every day. I got burned the first few times until I knew the rotation, but once you pick it up(or just take a flyer) you know what days to come in for your favorite!

Quality food and excellent looking desserts. I walked by for a quick sandwich and tried their turkey avocado sandwich. Very good and real/natural tasting. It wasn’t processed turkey but instead was like a post-Thanksgiving sandwich I would make at home. I value atmosphere as much as I do food and that’s why only three stars. The service was okay, it’s super small and I kept getting bumped into while waiting for my food… Just a little too earthy and not my thing.

Really in love with their pies! I stopped in here for a quick sweet treat and went with the mississippi mud pie and it was AMAZING! So fresh and tasty, not even usually liking pie, this is the one place where I love it. My only gripe is $ 3 is expensive and it is TINY! $ 6 for the larger size which I will go with next time. This is a really small location with a few tables inside and out, we came right at opening and had no problem, but I bet they fill up really fast here. Parking can be a pain, but we found a meter right around the corner. Service is nice and the store clean and cute, I will be back for more pie!

I love the name of this place. Simple things indeed. I came here for a lunch treat when I was craving some pies. It’s in Westwood, so automatically parking will be hard to find. Just circle around and hope for the best. It’s a cute little spot but there aren’t that many tables. There were maybe 4 inside and 3 outside. It gets pretty packed around lunch too. I ordered 2 miniature pies that they call cutie pies. I got the banoffee and the key lime. I also ordered a cup of their roasted tomato soup. All came out to be $ 11 with tip. The soup was pretty big for me for a cup. The pies were tiny. I honestly didn’t want to pay $ 2.45 for a mini pie as big as my hand but these things were full of flavor. Don’t be fooled with the size, what they lack in size they make up in taste. The banoffee was probably my favorite. The toffee was rich, smooth, and had chunks of bananas in it! I wasn’t expecting that, it was really a nice surprise. I judge a pie by it’s crust and I loved the crust on these cutie pies. It wasn’t too sweet or crispy, it was chewy and delicious. The key lime pie was just okay, I think the banoffee just overpowered it in flavor so I couldn’t stop thinking about it. They have different pies for different days so make sure you check their pie menu!

Simplethings offers simple, but delicious things. ;) I’ve had tried the mini pies here before, but I wasn’t too impressed with them. However, it wasn’t until I went in for lunch the day before that I tried more of the selection and they actually started to grow on me. Ordered a ½ salad, ½ sandwich combo for lunch; portions were generous, especially the salad. Flavors tasted fresh, and didn’t feel too heavy. Also had some mini pies afterward: the key lime was amazing, the banoffee was solid, although more banana flavor than toffee, and the special mango chili one was pretty good. Prices are a little up there, but that’s understandable considering it’s in Westwood. Overall, a nice, small establishment for a quick lunch or to meet up with a friend.

Our office gets food from here often so my review may be biased based on the fact that I am eating fo freeeee! Regardless food is actually pretty dang good. At first the sandwiches were okay, but as we get lunch here more often it has been consistently better! Iam not expecting a five star meal but I do think the food is well made albeit the portions are small. My favs: BBQ Pulled Chicken Sandwich on a Pretzel Bun Mac n Cheese(realllly good homemade kinda stuff) Roasted brussel sprouts ALLTHELITTLETINYINDIVIDUALPIES I would definitely walk in here and pay for that bbq chicken sammy. The sandwhich itself is small and good for a small person like me but not a ravenous person looking to make dem gainz. Also it is pretty rich/saucy. Again not sure of the price but if it was under $ 9 then I totally would indulge. If you don’t live near a Mendocinos but this is around I would come here! Definitely comparable in terms of a well made sandwich.

How have I not written a review for this place yet?! Anywho, I love their breakfast sandwich(ask for it with avocado — trust me!) and their egg salad sandwich(made fresh to order!). Their kale salad and chipotle chicken salads are served in generous portions and can be ordered as a half order as well! And you can’t go wrong with their pies… every single one that I’ve tried has been super yummy. My favorites are probably the salty caramel and the French silk. The store itself is tiny but they have more tables outside and most of the servers are nice and friendly. Their prices are slightly higher than comparable places like Panera but this will always be my fave spot in Westwood! :)

First time coming here. Got the chipotle chicken sandwich to go. It was really good! It had a great combination of corn and artichoke on pretzel bread. All the flavors worked really well together and you can tell the chicken was good quality… dare I say free range? The only downfall to the sandwich was that it was a bit salty. I assumed it was just part of the deal since its on pretzel bread. It didn’t stop be from devouring it. Got a few pies to go. I like that there are different sizes. Works out great especially if there’s multiple flavors you want to try. I picked up the mini pies in Salted Caramel, french silk, and cherry. So far I tried the salted caramel, extremely rich flavor but really good. I ultimately want to get the blueberry since that looks amazing in other Unilocal review photos! The place is super simple and small. But based on their quality of food I’ll be sure to come back. Parking is a pain but fortunately there’s a few loading zone spaces near by.

Just stopped by for dessert after lunch. Great rotating selection of pies. I’ve only tried the key lime and banoffee, both excellent. The larger of the two sizes(abt 6 inches diameter) is perfect for sharing.
