I do not understand how this place has such high ratings. Only nice thing I can say about this place is that the staff is very friendly. But food is so terrible I can only give one star. I am so sorry but my god, it was one of the worst ramen I’ve ever paid for. Won’t be going back.

Went here with three people and everyone agreed it was bad. The other two ate maybe 20% of their ramen dishes. I finished mine because I’m a cheap bastard. Got the spicy beef ramen, which had a watery broth that tasted of sichuan peppercorn. Tonkotsu broth was not very good(in one of the other ramens). I’ll stick to Japanese ramen places.

I am always hesitant of Taiwanese ramen, but I have to try any ramen place coming around Ktown. Sad to say, my fears were confirmed. They have 4 different kind of ramen with other noodles, and as someone else has mentioned, it was essentially the same with different broth. I personally got the Gyu Kotsu since the server said it was his favorite. The beef broth was extremely bland and the toppings didn’t really enhance anything. They did give a good amount of meat though and the noodles themselves were not bad. If it was only for the ramen I would give this place a 2 star but the server was super attentive which bumps it up one even though we were the only one in the place.

The noodles are hard and just like what is sold in supermarket. Not very good. The soup base is slight and not so tasteful. The fried chicken is fine.

Simple menu. Good sign. I ordered Rib eye ramen combo with karaage. Lighter broth than tonkatsu but got very good beef flavor. The noodles were al dente which I like. If you like yours softer, probably try to request that. Wish I had a slice more of the ribeye. It’s very thin cut like shabu style. Not very crowded at lunch yet since it’s new & tucked in a small corner strip mall. Not a very traditional ramen place but the milder flavor and spicy could be an appeal for some. Close enough to work that I’ll be back to try other types of ramen on the menu. Btw the portion size for the combo add-on was a bit on the small side. $ 3 to get 2 egg rolls when a full side of 4 rolls is $ 4.5 according to the menu photo. Ordering the full side maybe a better deal. 3-star for now. PS. Check in to get a free drink!

This place just opened 3 months ago in our neighborhood. Stumbled into it, and so glad we did! The bf and I were craving a nice warm soup on this rainy LA Friday night and this place served us well! He enjoyed Tonkotsu(pork) and I had the Bomb Vegetarian! He devoured the pork soup and then dug into my vegetation soup– this just shows that even a meat eater loves the vege soup. We also shared the squid salad. This was nice and light, mixed with a seaweed type green. Overall the food is delicious!!! The décor is super cute! The server was great and even saved my vegetarian stomach by detailing vegetarian friendly and non-vegetarian friendly sides and add-ons. Definitely come check this place out!!!

I pass the strip center in which Sheng Ramen is located quite often, but I never actually noticed their sign until today. Ramen sounded good, so I went in on a whim, and I’m glad I did. I don’t know what makes Taiwanese ramen different from Japanese ramen; after all, the place uses Japanese names like«tonkotsu» for their options. But hey, it’s good. It seems that the beef-based ramen dishes are their signature items, and as I’ve rarely come across beef ramen, I tried the gyokotsu ramen. It was rich but not heavy and very soothing. I would’ve liked to have had the garlic, beni shōga, and shichimi that Hakata-style ramen places offer to perk up the dish a bit; without those condiments, the broth seemed slightly bland and not unlike phở made without the star anise and such. But it’s a good bowl of ramen, and I plan on returning to try their Hakata ramen and other styles in time. There were more staff than customers at 2 P.M. on a Tuesday, which is a shame. This place should be busier. The staff was attentive but didn’t smother me as can happen when one is the only customer in a restaurant.

Good restaurant so close to where I live! Sheng Ramen is a Taiwanese-style Ramen place that just opened in Koreatown(just south of Wilshire and Vermont). I’ve been here twice so I feel qualified to write a review! The first time I went I had the Sheng Ramen. If you’ve never had Taiwanese Ramen before, the broth is earthier than Japanese Ramen(I prefer the Japanese variant) and the meat is less fatty(again, prefer Japanese Ramen). There was no wait and the service was efficient my first time there. Based on the ramen itself I would have probably given it 3 stars. However, enter my second experience there. Again, no wait, efficient, friendly service. This time I got the Ja Ja myeon which is basically Taiwanese spaghetti is how our waiter explained it to us. Instead of Spaghetti its ramen noodles, and the sauce is ground beef with more asian flavors, but it comes with an egg and green onions and was just for a lack of a better description pretty dang good. 4 stars for the second time I went for the food. We had the chicken karage(amazing!) and the fried squid(wonderful!) as well. 5⁄5 for the apps. There were three of us that time and with apps and everybody getting ramen or ja ja myeon we spent about $ 15 each without drinks(very reasonable). Ambience 3.75÷5 Food 4⁄5 Service 4⁄5 Overall 4⁄5

Limited menu here. 3 ramen noodle soups, all beef based; and 5 dry ramen noodle dishes. All 3 beef ramen noodles tasted relatively the same, with the exception of the Sheng Ramen which had added chili powder to it to make it mildly spicy. The Gyu Kotku Ramen, that’s made with beef bone in its broth, was lighter in color and a little more subtle in flavor. The thin slices of rib eye didn’t really enhance the ramen soups. Unlike Chinese hot pot, where the broths used have very pronounce and bold flavors, that hen cooking raw thin slices of meat in them, it absorbs some of that seasoning to make the beef quite flavorful. Here, the broths were a bit thin with the flavors thinning out on the back end of sipping and swallowing the broth. The Ja Jang ramen wasn’t bad as it had good flavor, there was a good portion of the bean sauce and ground beef, but the sour bean ramen was pretty forgetful. All ramens used a softer, chewy egg noodle. Sides we ordered included squid legs, chicken karaage and Taiwan sausage. Taiwan sausage was a bit too mild in flavor and came off as more of a hot dog than anything else. Squid legs were OK, but the karaage was pretty tasty and crispy. All three were served the same dipping sauce combination. Service, though, was very efficient and polite.

Delicious place for fusion ramen/Taiwanese noodle soup. This is apparently a chain internationally, with LA Koreatown being its first US location. They have ramen dishes with Taiwanese broth, which is soup based. Arrived for dinner on Sunday and order the following with a couple of friends: — Sheng ramen: I really like spicy dishes, which is hard to find in traditional Japanese ramen restaurants. The Sheng ramen comes spicy, but is not overwhelmingly spicy, and is very delicious. The toppings were great as well, although note that it doesn’t come with an egg. You can also add extra noodles for a charge, which actually comes with additional broth. — Fried goyza — Chicken karaage: we were all impressed by this dish. Not to oily, but crispy — Fried sausage: this was probably our least favorite side dish, but still yummy Valet parking is $ 1.50 in the lot. Very friendly and attentive service

The ramen is pretty good. The soup base was delicious. The noodle was a little chewy, i love chewy though. I got the sheng noodle(#1), i imagined to be more spicy but it was just mild. It is not Japanese style ramen so don’t come expecting to be a typical jap place. It is taiwanese and yes theres a difference. Overall it was good. :)

Had 4 bowls of Ramen and 3 sides to share amongst our group. The Sheng Ramen were really meh. The ramen noodles are not bad but the broths were bland. The dry jajang ramen were also not tasty. Overall the ramen dishes were unimpressive but edible. With all the gluten and msg I was dozing off in the car driving home and when I got home, I crashed for an hour with a food coma. We were jipped on the squid legs. Looks like half a portion to me. The chicken karaage was decent with hints of gristle. Where do they get their chicken??? The Chinese sausage was so bad we did not even finish it even though none of us were particularly full.” As usual there were plenty of hype on a new place but I could tell from some of the negative reviews that this place would be disappointing and it turned out to be so. A self fulfilling prophesy in this situation was not a joy to endure. Happy dining to you and may you and your descendants be blessed with joyous meals now and forever. Amen.

Do not get the Spicy Sauce Ramen(7.5). Even«Taiwanese Ramen» needs meat. And the egg wasn’t done that well. This dish is incomplete! — No meat — finished the meal in 5 bites — Indomie tastes better Sheng Ramen(9.5) was okay, but wasn’t satisfying either. It was full of oil. I would love to give this place another shot — probably will try the Jajang Sauce Ramen(7.5). Service is great. Prices are right. Atmosphere is modern.

I learned about place through Unilocal.I searched for ramen restaurants in the area with the highest rating and this spot came in at #1. Having caught a terrible case of the flu, I decided that some hot ramen would be just the thing I needed to help make me feel better. This restaurant is located in a plaza with many other restaurants adjacent to it, but what makes this place stand out from the rest, is their service. Upon walking in, you are immediately greeted by the staff and then directed to a table of your choice. I decided to try their Mapo Tofu Ramen without the pork and their vegetarian gyozas. The ramen was just a little too spicy for me but overall it was very delicious and definitely made me feel better. I really appreciated that even though there was an honest mistake in my Gyoza order, Soon took the initiative and was more than happy to give us an additional plate of Gyozas on the house. Because my throat was raspy, I kindly asked if I could get a side of their broth. Soon explained that it wasn’t vegetarian but honestly when you’re sick, any hot soup will do. It was delicious! To ease feeling horrible and drained, I ordered the Asahi beer and Heineken and it complimented our meals just right. The menu is simple but full of varieties and I was told by our server, that their ramen is flown in specially from Taiwan. I like that it was a different take on tradition Japanese ramen that everyone is used to. Our servers were Soon & Dylan. Soon spent most of our meal talking to us, getting to know us and he took the time to make sure everything was okay, that our food was to our liking. Both guys were attentive and friendly. Dylan was also great in making sure everything was good and on top of taking care of our empty plates. I can’t say enough good things about this place. The food was great! The service was great! I love that Soon took the time to make sure everything tasted good and was made well. It is this standard of service that sets this restaurant apart from the rest. With so many ramen restaurants in Korea town, I like knowing that when I dine here again, I will not only be enjoying great food but also, I’m going to a place that appreciates my business and also me enjoying consuming their food. The food and service was excellent! If you’re a foodie like me who likes to try new things, you will love and appreciate this place! Can’t wait to stop by next time! Thanks again Soon and Dylan!

Great service, friendly waiters, clean restaurant and tasty ramen! I ordered the Sheng Ramen, which is spicy and comes with thinly sliced medium rare beef(like phở), bean sprouts, tofu skin, and asked for no green onions. The broth has a great kick and flavor without burning any tastebuds off and not overly salty. It was just right with the al dente(firm) noodles. It was kind of refreshing to have the option of letting my beef cook longer under the noodles in my soup if I wanted. I think it was a great idea to offer free ice cream for sharing photos of their ramen on social media. The yuzu sorbet was a delight! So refreshing and tasty. Not too sweet!

DISCLAIMER: Don’t expect Japanese style ramen here, it is a Taiwanese place that serves Taiwanese style ramen! Okay so I came here for lunch because I read and saw delicious pictures about this place on instagram and had to try for myself. My friend and I got two of their most known ramen, the Sheng Ramen and the Beef Ramen. I had the Beef Ramen and got to try a small portion of the Sheng Ramen. Beef Ramen: delicious broth! I really really really love their broth for this. As the bowl of beef ramen came to us, it smelled like phở! The noodles were great also. I love the lightness of the broth and how good it paired with the ramen noodles. Sheng Ramen: Just imagine a hot pot broth with lots of spicy flavor and add some ramen noodles! This was really good in flavor. We were given some side dishes like seawood and squid. The squid was pretty good! Overall, I would totally recommend this place to anyone. It is a good different taste from the normal Japanese style ramen. Definitely worth a try! FYI parking is free in the lot, just pay tips for valet service!

Are you tired of same old ramen, then you should definitely try this restaurant. I had the Sheng ramen, Gyu Kotsu ramen, and fried squid leg. All the servings were well prepared and serving size was perfect. Both of Ramen had exotic flavor soup and a perfectly textured noodle. One was spicy and one was not but both of ramen had remarkable taste and flavor. I’m a fan of Sheng now.

Clean with beautiful hanging Chinese calligraphy. Kitchen took up half the place. Quick, super friendly service. One of them was genuinely interested in my opinion and very open to feedback. He even joked that he would see me tomorrow. Spicy sheng ramen –flavorful with a kick towards the end gyu kotsu ramen –can understand why some think the soup is too bland, but it was perfect for me. For perspective, most Japanese ramen soup is too salty for me Noodles were a little too hard for my preference, but the boyfriend liked them a lot. Amazing restaurant and service! The staff here is SO friendly and attentive! We were immediately seated and got our drinks and ramen right away. My glass never even got close to empty, they were always on top of it(and I drink a lot!). I got the Sheng Ramen and I loved it! Not too spicy at all. Bursting with flavor and the rib eye cooked just right! I can’t stress enough that the customer service was amazing! We were always taken care of and by several staff members. Great service, great food! I’ll definitely be coming back!

Can’t believe they boiled the beef bone for three days to make this ramen broth! The broth was not flavorful at all! I tried Sheng Ramen and Gyu Kotsu Ramen. Those two ramens were totally differently made. However, both of the broth tasted like just lightly seasoned water with some oil. My friend and I did not like the ramen at all. We ended up just paying for trying out the new ramen place in Koreatown. The price is decent but this ramen is not even worth a dollar. I wonder how they got good ratings from some people!(Good Luck!) I am giving a star for the staffs who were not seemed to be trained very well yet since they were not knowledgeable about the menu, yet friendly. The interior looked nice. However, I believe they should try HARD to fix and improve the recipe before official opening.
