I work in the area and have stopped in a few times for lunch. The food is never a disappointment, and I always walk away satisfied, also lovee there clam chowder! People comment that it is a little pricey, which it may be, but come on it is Brentwood…

I wandered in here yesterday, mid-afternoon. The streets of Brentwood were blazing hot! It was in the 90s on the Westside, ack. But the A/C was on full blast inside Sea Breeze and it felt wonderful. Last time I walked past this location, Damon & Pythias was on its way out. That must have been more than 5 months ago, cuz that’s when Sea Breeze arrived, I was told. I really liked this little place. Selections are written on the chalkboard above the counter, where you order. I saw quite a few things that looked good… like battered shrimp, which I love. I thought I might order the crab cake appetizer for my late lunch, until the nice guy behind the counter suggested the crab cake sandwich. It came with soup or salad, and I chose the mushroom veggie soup. $ 9.95 for the food was not super cheap, but seemed fair for what I got. I couldn’t even finish the sandwich, it was big. The two crab cakes were on a perfectly-toasted sourdough roll. Yum. Also on the sandwich was a big pile of the freshest crispy iceberg lettuce, along with sliced tomato, sweet raw onion, and either tartar sauce or mayo, I couldn’t tell for sure. The crab cakes were decent, among the better ones I’ve had in LA. This was a damn good sandwich, is what I’m sayin”. The soup was good, too, loaded with mushrooms in a rich base. I could hardly finish the meal, it was ample food for me. Service was amazing. I had the place almost to myself due to the off-hour, and was chatting with the staff while I ate, at my table by the front window. I’d go back, definitely, and I will. Sea Breeze is not a chain, which I appreciate. Not yet, anyway, haha! It’s a family-owned spot, and I have high hopes for their future.

Ok, so if you’re a seafood lover you can go for sushi, but 1) sushi isn’t «seafood» if you know what I mean. Seafood to me is chowder, crab, lobster, clam rolls and fish and chips and grilled scallops and fried calamari. When I’m hankering a nice grilled piece of fish, or chunky crab cakes I go to Gulf Stream in Century City. The place is pricey, but consistently good. So with fantasies that a really good and reasonably priced seafood place existed I marched off to Sea Breeze. Yes the owner is nice but sadly the food wasn’t. I ordered the seafood paella, crab cake sandwich and fries. The paella rice was mushy, drowned in oil and bland. The crab cakes were equally flavorless, and too mushy for the bread used and insignificant in flavor or texture compared to the red onion, tomato, lettuce and roll; which was actually pretty good. I really wanted to like the food, but I don’t. :(

Fresh and delicious fish, but everything else is just so-so. I had lunch here last weekend with Ben G and we were not super-impressed. First of all, things are kinda pricey and the menu is either deceptive or just unclear. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Sandwich. The menu says that you can get either a small soup or small salad with it. Nothing about a side costing extra. So when I said I wanted a clam chowder on the side, the owner said it would be an extra $ 1.25. Excuse me? Okay, fine, I didn’t fight it, it was only $ 1.25– but still. Ben had the halibut fillet, and then we shared the falafel plate as an appetizer. The quality of the food was both hit and miss. Fish = good. Everything else = not so good. My clam chowder was kinda thin and I really couldn’t find any clam pieces in it. Hello? It’s not called«Potato-Chunk Chowder with Clam Seasoning». I didn’t even finish it. The falafel balls were also weird. Ben and I agreed they were too doughy and more like hushpuppies than anything else. The hummus was too thick and bland. There was also a yucky couscous salad, and some sort of coleslaw. So pass on the falafel plate. My sandwich was actually quite good. The ahi was fresh, seared on the outside, and prettily pink on the inside. I loved the bread– a chewy sourdough roll. It also came loaded with lettuce, tomato, fresh onion, and a light pesto-mayo. It was a good size so I ate half and took the rest to go. Ben’s halibut fillet was also very good. But the great fish couldn’t really save the entire meal. As for service, the owner tried to be nice, but it felt forced. He was also a bit pushy. Just didn’t love the vibe. Cute place, but I would go elsewhere for such basic seafood fare.

Food: A+ Service: A+ The last time I tried a casual seafod restaurant(eh hem, Fish Grill on Wilshire), I was extremely disappointed. In fact, I didn’t even finish the meal. It’s very hard to do seafood right, especially as a fast food-ish place. I am happy to report that my experience at Sea Breeze is nothing like Fish Grill. I ordered the fish & chips and it tasted fabulous(& according to the owner, it’s the most popular dish). The setup at Sea Breeze is somewhere in between a fast food joint and a sit down restaurant. Your food is served on real plates and brought out to you but you do pay up front and the drinks are in disposable cups. The owner and employees are so nice. Apparently, the owner already has a Sea Breeze restaurant… but in Israel! We sat out on the back patio and the owner came out to check up on us a couple of times to make sure everything was ok. For about $ 10-$ 12, the price may seem a little high for lunch. However, considering that you are getting great quality and fresh seafood, the price is very reasonable. They also deliver with a minimum $ 20 order.

I saw SB when I was walking my pups in Brentwood one morning. Thanks to Momo and Chuy. I stopped by for dinner a few days after and was pretty happy with the quality of the food(seafood paella and steamed mussels). Their paella was pretty good compared to the ones I’ve tried at other joints(LA Paella and La Espanola). Only complaints I have is the price and seating arrangement. It’s a fast-food resto set up but the portion was pretty small for the price($ 25 for one entrée and one appetizer). Indoor seating is limited(3 tables) but there’s plenty of outdoor seating at the sidewalk and patio. All in all, it’s a good experience. I will come back to try the ale flavored shrimps.

Small space, no ambiance, no parking and nowhere to sit. Better be the best whatever I have had for a good value. These guys are confused about what they are. Seafood Bar? Where is the seafood bar? Thought I was going to see oysters on ice with some chilled Gazpacho, French bread and some crab legs that have been steamed ready to eat. Sandwich was reasonably good but the place needs direction on marketing and needs to accentuate the outdoor seating area. If they are going to make dam good sandwiches then pre-make them and put a refidgrator section with them pre-wrapped. That way business men can run in at lunch, they can do catering and when I am pondering something cheap and quick I will think of them vs Subway. I suspect they will be gone by Hanukkah. Gota love the entrepreneur in these guys but they have no niche. Tough place to make a buck in 500 sq.ft. The Food Guru Scale 1 – 10 Food: 6 Ambiance: 2 Service: 6

After realizing that something had finally opened in the space formerly occupied by Damon & Pythias, my girlfriend and I ventured into Sea Breeze a couple of weeks ago, and we were both glad we did. Sea Breeze is set in a great location on San Vicente, and while the storefront is a bit on the small side, they have a wonderful patio… In fact, set back from the street, it is a bit more like a courtyard(which causes me to like it all the more). The menu is varied without being overwhelming and the owner is glad to help you pick a winner. He was actually quite accommodating and helpful the entire time, bringing our food back to the patio and checking in after a few minutes to see how we liked everything. Ahh, like everything we did. I ordered the sauteed tiger shrimp and my girlfriend chose the ahi tuna sandwich. My shrimp was certainly tasty, however, it is also the source of my only complaint: I had asked for it spicy, and it more or less failed to stimulate my taste buds in that regard. My girlfriend, on the other hand, couldn’t stop raving about her sandwich. So I snagged a bite and it was indeed quite delicious. All for just about $ 20… Not bad for Brentwood.

I love this place. The fish is high quality, fresh and simply cooked. Prices are very cheap, especially for this part of town. Ahi Tuna was tender and cooked properly. Fish and chips had good fish and crisp chips. Owner is very friendly and the place, while simple, has a nice feeling. HIghly recommend.
