If you have ever dreamed of surfing or just want to work on balance/core than this is your dream! I decided to checkout this workout since I’ve always been curious about surfing but am not the best swimmer. You don’t have to have the best balance because they have cords to grab when standing on the board. The instructor was great about showing modifications for various fitness abilities. I wasn’t sure if I’d get much out of it because of my abilities but at the end of the class I had worked up a major sweat. The instructor explained that sand adds another level to the workout while cushioning joints(wasn’t sore despite jumping). I’d recommend checking it out rather to surfing or if you are not coordinated they can easily accommodate all fitness levels.

Love this workout! Katie was the instructor for the day and she was very friendly and gives you a quick tutorial for the beginners, like me, on how to jump on the surfboard and get down from it. It was great cardio and even after months of barre workouts mixed with yoga and pilates, I still had so much trouble balancing on the boards. We did burpees, lunges, planks, and sit-ups on the boards… and it’s no joke. Wear something you don’t mind getting sand on. For some reason I brought shoes and not flip flops and now I have sand all over my shoes. You do the Surfset workout barefoot. I think the other classes are all done barefoot. I parked on the 2 hour metered parking on the street. It’s Thanksgiving and there were a lot available. Also, music was fun for Katie’s class, lots of 80’s. I’ll be coming back for sure!

I used to live in the valley and had gone to the Sherman Oaks studio once for a bootcamp class and it wasn’t my thing — but I’ve since moved to WeHo and thought I’d give their new studio on Beverly a try. Let me just say this up front — the sand is a GAMECHANGER. I recommend doing a workout your are relatively familiar with, because the sand WILL make it more challenging no matter what. Since my previous experience was bootcamp style and I didn’t love it, I opted for a TRX class this time around. Usually TRX doesn’t get me sweating a whole lot, but I feel it the next day. Not the case here! It was an intense, full body workout that will get you very sweaty. Loved it! I will definitely be back for more TRX.
