I vow to never… ever go back. The nonsense the I experienced there last night was mind boggling. So a friend of mind and I were searching for a place to boogie on a Sunday. Driving and throwing back Red Bull, ready to dance it out. After finding nothing in West Hollywood, it hit me that Room 86 tends to play somewhat decent house music on Sunday nights. I hadn’t been there in a while and last night reminded me why. Sleazy door guys that’ll tell you anything to get you in, crazy expensive drinks, so-so music… that sort of thing. I once had a door guy trick me into paying the twenty dollar cover(Yes. Twenty dollars on a Sunday) by telling me that there was a good crowd and that the DJ was playing house music. I got inside and there were about nine people inside, including the bartenders. Not that that’s a problem. I don’t go out for the crowd and I prefer to have some space on the dance floor but there was also some weird, trippy space cadet music playing. So okay… I was lied to about there being a crowd. Fine. I don’t care. Didn’t come here for that anyway but I did come here to dance so to tell me that there’s house music going on upstairs when there really isn’t is unacceptable. I immediately went back down and demanded my money back. He shrugged and said he couldn’t help me. Yeah, just like that. I persisted and he radioed another«guard» to come down just to tell me the same thing. I Should’ve made that my last time going there but I believe in second chances when it comes to things like this so I decided to bring my friend here last night, hoping for the best. We paid our cover and went in. There were a few people, music was okay and we knew that it was the best we’d find in the area in terms of house music so we started dancing. Now my friend is a break dancer and a damned good one at that. He can do the fancy tricks if he wants and tone it down it down to a mellow groove if he needs to. So anyway, he’s doing his thing and I’m doing mine. Keeping it mellow and when he got a little extra space he’d bust a quick move. Nothing crazy and he’s being courteous. Just doing his thing. Another break dancer sees him and decides to come join. Still they’re being very mellow about it. No floor spins or windmills or anything like that. People start to take notice begin cheering them on. Still nothing crazy. Just two guys very calmly break dancing and a few people appreciating it. After about ten minutes a bouncer enters the room. Looks like the nicest guy ever. Smiling. Waving. He very invitingly asks my friend and the other dancer to follow him. I thought he was going to maybe ask them to get on stage or reward them in some way for bringing some life into that dead club of theirs but no. Five minutes after that he comes back in and tells me that my friends are stuck outside and are asking for me. I went down and they both tell me that they’d been kicked out for dancing. Dancing in a dance club. They were told that they were taking up space. They weren’t. They were told that someone almost fell onto a table. That never happened. We’d been there only a few minutes, there was plenty of space for everyone, my friend isn’t some clutz that doesn’t know what he’s doing, he doesn’t even drink for that matter and no one even had enough time to do anything wrong. Just some dancers looking to dance in a place made for dancing. That’s all. So I get downstairs, try reasoning with these people and it seems«sorry, no refunds» are the only words the guards can muster up. I almost flipped. Thankfully my buddy is a very calm fellow and I can be, too so we left. No trouble. No craziness. We’re grown men. Like I said at first, though… I won’t be back. That’s that.

Super awkward. I couldn’t figure out if this was a gay club, swingers club, «fangtasia», or a drug hangout. Other reviews said you could call it a dive club. It smells horribly. Drinks were weak and the alcohol was pretty crummy. Crowd was mixed, but I’m still confused. I’m giving the place 2 stars because it’s material to discuss and complain about later.

We arrived and there was a small line. I could hear him telling everyone 10 bucs each. We got to the front and asked about the venue. The door guy said its great and that there were two different rooms. He said that there was 700 people inside. I handed him 100 dollar bill and got 60 bucs change. I questioned the change. He said its 10 bucs if you got ticket online but if not its 20 each” i didnt want to argue so we went in. It was dark, clastrophobic and the music was not to our liking. So we went back downstairs and told him we didnt like it and we asked for our money back. We were there less than 3 minutes! He said you are more than welcome to leave and come back but no refunds. Really, after you bait and swiched us and the we stayed for less than 3 minutes. Bad business. Sorry it wasnt to our taste but dont charge us 40 bucs to look. Not cool. We will never go back and i will never recommend it. We went down the street to a Sbe club… No cover. great music.pretty people. We learned from our 40 dollar mistake. Maybe they needed it. because with that kind of customer service they wont last. Wish i could give them no stars

This is not really a review, but fact sheet pabst $ 5 other beer $ 7(no draft) mixed drinks $ 9 and up. cover $ 5 on a monday weekends $ 10 and up formerly cinespace– so it is a pretty descent location, with pretty good sound –function one system. three rooms stage/dancefloor lounge/bar room smoking patio without leaving the venue. stalled bathrooms. overall pretty descent for hollywood– they do have excessive security, and push the bar hard– it might get douche on the weekends, but Iiked monday enough to scout out a weekend.

I wouldn’t come back to this place. Drinks overpriced as usual. There’s a dance floor but very tiny venue. Nothing special. DJ was ok.

Our group of 18 was on the hunt for a bar or club on the Hollywood strip that could get our entire group in at 11PM on a Saturday night. As we were walking down the street, a man waiving wrist bands approached us saying that we should check out his club, Room 86. He told us that he could get all 18 of us in with a $ 10 cover for guys and free for ladies with the wristbands that he was giving out. It was very similar to what you would encounter in Las Vegas with night clubs that have a hard time attracting customers. None of us had ever heard of the place, but since we had no other location lined up we decided to give it a shot. We got into the club really easily, and headed directly upstairs. It was moderately filled, but no where near packed. The music and sound system were okay. There were people dancing, but this place just didn’t inspire me much to get up from my seat that night. The two best things about Room 86 were that the drinks were fairly inexpensive for Hollywood, and it was easy to find places to sit. Our whole group found a good sized area to hangout without being harassed about bottle service or anything like that. The experience turned out really well, and we were lucky to have come across this place. I would describe Room 86 as a dive club. They have all of the things that you would find at a typical club, but the place is just a bit run down. I did have a lot of fun with my friends here, so I wouldn’t mind checking it out again.

It’s okay. Kinda small, but not unexpected. The vibe is good and the outdoor area isn’t bad. Credit card machine was broken so hardly anyone bought drinks that night I was there.
