When I first met Dr. Gerner in the 1980’s, I was mesmerized by his apparent genius. He seemed compassionate. Over time, he slowly pulled me into the point that I could not function without him. He led me to believe that I had illnesses that I didn’t have. He turned me against my father as he convinced me that I had been molested by him but I just couldn’t remember it. All the while I was writing a check to him for hundreds of dollars every month. This went on for 12 years. At some point, he told me that he was taking a leave from his practice for a year. I was devastated. I didn’t think I would be able to make it on my own. it was only a year later that I discovered that he had lost his license to practice. He had been doing marriage therapy with a couple and during this time he had an affair with the wife. This is backed up with documentation maintained by the California medical board. it used to be public record but the board took the complaint down because it was too old. However, it is available if you call the board and ask to see it. Dr Gerner eventually got his license back. I saw him a couple of more times until I finally came to the conclusion that I had been duped by this man who kept me dependent on him so he could get my money. Dr Gerner almost ruined my life. Unfortunately, my Dad and I were never able to reconcile as he died before I realized that all that stuff about molestation was just a way to keep me close so Gerner could get my money. My father never did anything to me. Dr. Gerner also costantly over medicated me. I would not recommend Dr Gerner. I question his ethics and judgment.
