Visiting Downtown, Unilocaled Komasa and was not disappointed at all. The food was top shelf and the servers couldn’t have been nicer and more helpful. This restaurant has definitely made my top ten.

Old style Japanese restaurant. Food is decent. I recommend their shrimp tempura. It’s very crispy and sweet. Not so sure about sushi.

This is a real gem. It’s very crowded, but only because the food is so good. The people get you in and out very quickly and you never have to wait very long to get in. The sushi is awesome. We love their spicy tuna rolls. Really nice, warm environment and staff. The prices are also affordable. The folks here work really hard and take pride in their restaurant. I love coming here for sushi. I know I can enjoy a tasty sushi dinner without having to spend too much money. There’s also typically an awesome ice cream food truck right outside the restaurant … a great thing to have right after a salty meal.

This place will always be one of my regular sushi spots. Affordable, but also great quality fish. Never had a bad one here. Staff and service is great too! Feels like I’m eating sushi made from my grandpa! Also, when you wait for a table, they’ll actually call you to let you know a table is ready. Pretty convenient so you can walk around while waiting.

Little Tokyo, cheap(ish) sushi, good ratings, very fresh fish. Hard to go wrong. I ordered the sashimi and salmon teriyaki plate, and it was very filling after a long day, even on an empty stomach. One of the things to watch for are — if you come during peak hours, the wait seemingly can be rather long, and this place of business is relatively small, so there is maybe waiting room for 2 people. The rest have to wait outside; be warned during the colder days in LA. Bring a jacket, and some patience.

Eh, I wasn’t too crazy about this place. We came on a Saturday night around 5 and got seated right away. Throughout the time there, we saw many people piling up and waiting for a table. The restaurant only has 5 tables(either seating 2 – 4 people) or the sushi bar which could fit about 12 people are so. So, this restaurant is pretty small in size. We were thinking about visiting the sushi restaurant next door but it opened at 5:30PM and my brother wanted rolls and they didn’t serve it there. This place does but it’s super limited. What we ordered: 1) Salmon Sashimi 8 pieces($ 14) Ehhh, just tasted like regular salmon sashimi, nothing special. The salmon didn’t melt in my mouth or anything, I felt like I could’ve had this quality at any local sushi joints. 2) Sashimi + Salmon bento box($ 14) Probably the better deal over the salmon sashimi because it came with 6 pieces of sashimi(Salmon, Tuna and Yellowtail) as well as soup, salad, potato salad, rice, and pickles. along with the main entrée, salmon teriyaki of course(you can also order it salted instead). 3) Yellowtail with green onion roll($ 4.50) This was a small roll but for $ 4.50 I guess I can’t complain. It was about 6 small pieces. With everyone listed above and a sashimi + teriyaki chicken bento box came out to be $ 50. Not bad but I didn’t leave feeling satisfied.

Busy is always best! I got the tempura and sashimi box for dinner! They gave me big pieces of sashimi and it was so good it melted in my mouth! The tempura was so crispy and well fried you know they weren’t using old oil! I ate so well here and the service was great! They will check on you to make sure you are happy :)

The exterior is unassuming, but the interior reveals a cute, traditional sushi bar with a quiet, but not pretentious ambiance. The servers are all super sweet and polite, and the service is relatively quick. They refilled our waters and teas without us asking, which was nice! I got the albacore sashimi which ran me about $ 15, and my date got an assorted sushi platter that was about $ 17. At the time, they were only taking cash, which was kind of inconvenient. The sashimi was cut somewhat inconsistently, but tasted fresh! They also didn’t judge me when I asked for ponzu sauce to dip my fish in(am I a heathen? Probably, whatever) since that’s the way I’m used to eating albacore. With much more expensive sushi places within walking distance, and on a ballin’ college student’s budget(lmao nah I’m broke), Komasa is a solid choice for quality sushi for a fair price!

Went here with the buddies Alicia and Ashley. We’re the Triple A Team. Ordered a variety of things, quality was tasty! Average bill was around 30 a person post tax and tip. Not bad! We sat at the bar. Service was quick! In retrospect to Japan, it was nothing compared to Japan :(but still a pretty damn good meal for this hole in the wall wait a decent wait on a friday night at 7pm! The Chirashi bowl is a good bang for your buck! I wish they had added a few more flavors to each sushi other than just wasabi though(I’m spoiled by Japan obviously which is half the cost)

Wow. This was a surprise to find this amazing gem of a sushi restaurant in Little Tokyo. I feel that Restaurant Komasa is underrated. The sushi here is amazing and the service here is excellent. My friend and I ordered different assortments of sashimi and sushi. The monk fish liver is absolutely a must here. I have only had monk fish liver once before and for me, once you have tasted it, you want more. The tuna, albacore and salmon were all were fresh and seemed to melt in my mouth. Everything we ordered was delicious. The service here is fast for a small and busy restaurant. We had to wait for about 10 – 15 minutes to be seated upon arrival, but it was worth it. Komasa is a small venue so you may be seated elbow to elbow with your dinning partners. This is a definite must to return when I am back in Little Tokyo.

Honestly this place truly changed my life! I thought sugarfish was my favorite place for casual sushi in la, but komasa really blows sugarfish out of the water!!! What’s unique about this restaurant is that its tuna is so soft and literally melts in your mouth like toro. However, the toro here is out of this world. Think of the toro you would find at other restaurants times 5. For $ 12 you can get two generous pieces of toro. They really don’t skimp on the meat here. Although I believe their specialty here is their tuna, whether you get the spicy tuna or the toro, the large scallop is pretty generic. The other types of fish I enjoyed during my dinner was the yellow tail belly, salmon, uni, and sweet shrimp. If you come in right when they open(530pm) there shouldn’t be any wait, but if you come anytime after 645 be prepared to wait! It’s a pretty small restaurant and it tends to be very quit so I don’t suggest drinking and getting rowdy here unless you want the whole restaurant to hear you.

The Chirashi here is $ 17 and 2⁄5 stars. The fish wasn’t very fresh and some of their slices were uncomfortably thick. There was also a bed of seaweed separating the fish and rice that I wasn’t a fan of. it was tough to chew. My friend got the shrimp tempura roll and spicy tuna roll, both of which were cut too thick and were a bit on the soggy side. Komasa’s only redeeming factor is the quick service. We were seated immediately at 6pm on a Saturday night, our food/drink orders were taken in a timely manner, and our food came out really quick. However, they laughed at me when I dropped my phone trying to take a picture of my Chirashi bowl… not quite sure how that makes me feel. PARKING: Japanese Village Parking structure is $ 7, but Komasa gives validation so you get your money back when you exit.

yeee #1001 review! With that being said, this place is YUMMY! and yes the spicy tuna roll did live up to its beloved reviews. Other than that, I say this is a pretty standard sushi restaurant that serves your usual plates of sushi, sashimi, and tempura etc. This place has great service and they were all very friendly! It is right next door to hama but it doesn’t carry that vibe of «sushi expert exclusivity» that I get over at Hama lol: P This place does get packed so come early(: and with ALL your members present or else you aint gon get a table, duh! I like this place that is the bottom line and the spicy tuna will have me coming back when my next sushi craving attacks(:

Since it’s right next door to Hama sushi and is similar in price, it’s almost impossible not to compare the two. Unfortunately, Komasa doesn’t come out looking as good. They have delicious fresh fish, chefs that know their business, and a good fish to rice ratio on their nigiri. However, they are also very heavy handed on the wasabi when making both their nigiri and rolls and their rice is somehow less tasty than at Hama. If it wasn’t in Little Tokyo and wasn’t right next door to Hama, I would probably give it 4 stars. But if you’re in the area, going just one door over is probably the tastier decision.

I like this place a lot. Chirashi all the way and if u park in the friends lot they validate. Used to be cheaper but they caught on that everyone really dug their chirashi and would be willing to pay more for it. Nice move komasa. Their waits are typically not as long as they quote which is smart. One ought to under promise and over deliver. Miso soup is good. I didn’t realize till I had really bad miso(looking at you kiku!!) Now I am hungry. Nom. Nom. Nom.

Rating: 4.5 Purpose of visit: This location was basically Plan B. Our original sushi destination was suppose to be Hama Sushi(Plan A.), but the wait was estimated to be an hour. Komasa wait time was about 45 minutes. So we decided to go with the latter. Parking: You can park in Japanese Village Plaza parking structure and get a 2 hour validation. I ended up parking in the Art District and walked over. Ambiance: I felt like a little fish gasping for air near the surface of the fish tank. It’s a relatively small restaurant and got a bit uncomforable. The food made things all better though! :) Waiting Procedure: Tell the hostess or host your name and telephone #. When it is your turn, he or she will try to find you outside or call you to notify you that your table is ready. –Tip: While you wait, they’ll give you the menu and a piece of paper to mark what items you want. Make use of your time and mark things down for a faster process to get your food when you finally get a table inside. Service: Service was great! Staffers were very friendly and attentive. They made sure our requests were met promptly. Food came out fast! Food: We ordered: 1) Two rolls(salmon and yellowtail): Fish to rice ratio was great and the slices of fish was fresh and literally melted in mouth. Was totally a mouth pleaser. 2) Two item combination(sashimi and cooked salmon) bento box: The sashimi was basically the same thing we ordered for the two rolls. Thought maybe they could possiblly differentiate with some other fish, but I still had a grand ol time eating them. The salmon had a lot of flavor and was tender and I was guilty of not sharing the salmon skin with my friend. 3) Monkfish Liver: To tell you the truth, I never had Monkfish or any of there organs. My friend told me it was good, so we ended up ordering it. It came with 4 or 5 big pieces of liver and I just loved everything about the liver. It was soo McCreammy! If I could order this again, i’ll probably order one for myself. I totally have to be greedy with this one.

HOLEINTHEWALLSIZEOF A RESTERAUNT! After a 30 min. wait for a seat at the sushi bar it was decent. Definitely had to say it was the same temperature outside as it was inside… maybe a little warmer inside. I only saw about maybe 6 tables at most with maybe being able to seat 8 people at most at the bar. Service was good… there were a LOT of workers for such a small place. The chefs we’re very stern looking so it was a bit confusing whether we could order from them or not but I guess you just order from the servers. SQUIDSUSHI — this had to be the least of my favorite to be honest… there was a layer of slimyness to it which left a very unpleasant feel to my mouth. =\ UNISUSHI — the uni was like HEAVEN… delicious & creamy w/the perfect coldness of the uni w/warm rice. SWEETSHRIMPSUSHI — another one I was too fond of… again it had a slimy layer on it which can only conclude me to think that it’s not fresh or it was frozen? SALMONSUSHI — I didn’t personally have any but the hubby was satisfied HALIBUTSUSHI — no fishy taste which is a plus! & they gave a nice big piece =] SALMONSKINHANDROLL — had the perfect amount of crunch but the handroll was a bit sloppy I guess because it was busy. SHRIMPHEADMISOSOUP — the soup was tasty but there was NOMEAT on the shrimp heads at all The atmosphere plus the average quality of sushi & the not very interactive service results me to give a 3 star

This place used to be decent for me, now it’s not even an option for me after tonight. No omakase option, at least that’s what they told me tonight. Sweet shrimp are pre-peeled so not very fresh. Jumbo scallop lacked any sweetness. Salmon was as Pinky says, buffet quality. Rice was not very good under the slices of fish. Oysters were not fresh. I’m sitting in Pinky’s bathroom writing this review, enough said.
