Fantastic store, will have tons of the good things you can get in Japan, but generally not in US, or not easily, or not in a bunch in a physical store. It’s a bit dingy, lacking the«we-are-all-happy-fabulous-young-people-at-all-times”-atmosphere, which is most welcome, if you ask someone like me, who gets easily grumpy when approached with too much hype-happy, I like things calm. A tic better light in there might be something to consider, but the point is, you go here to buy art supplies, it is not a café. Staff is pleasant and knows their stuff, prices reasonable, they have an option to open an account for reduced prices, if you come often enough.

Great customer service! The younger guy there helped us picked out the art supplies for our daughter’s project. That saved us so much time. He is knowledgable and super helpful. Prices are reasonable and are well stocked.

This is my favorite art supply store! And I will keep going there because their price is probably the lowest among all that i have been to. the people who works here never upsell you and they are very friendly. It’s right next to the grand central market so there’s a lot to see around the area if you don’t want to move your car from place to place in down town Los Angeles.

I came here to get paint for an electrical box that I was doing with an artist. The owners were extremely knowledgeable with what kind of paint we actually needed and helped us get the best paint for a job. I would highly recommend this place.

I love this place. I just moved here and was like where are all the art stores? This is the ultimate place to go. Fair prices as well with very helpful staff.

Good products, decent selection, sales pretty regularly. Knocked off three stars because of disappointing customer service. Tried to return some unused items but couldn’t because of store policy. Particularly disappointing because I called in advance before trucking over. Keep your receipts if you shop here. Looking forward to more art stores coming into downtown… I think we could benefit from the competition.

The ideal art store in dtla. They offer a great selection of tools and quality supplies at a good value, with great customer service… What more can you ask for? And now that they have a wide selection of Montana cans on deck and refillable markers/variety of inks, it’s my new go-to place. I definitely recommend it to my friends.

I was welcomed by the staff when I first came in, 2 ladies and a guy. One of the ladies was helpful and showed me a few items that I had questions on. I thanked her and then spoke it over with my partner. I asked her more questions they’re weren’t as friendly the 2nd time. Perhaps because they wanted to get back to their conversation about a hot male model they follow on Instagram. I had a lot of large items in my hand and I asked if they could hold it for me at the register, they all ignored my request and just started ringing everything up. I finished up looking around the store and added a few more items. She gave me my total and before even looking at what I had added. I was spending well over $ 100 and was being treated like I was a waste of their time. I won’t be going back.

I love Raw Materials, they always have the supplies I need in a pinch. A little small, but what can you expect, they’re DTLA. My favorite part about the shop is the staff and the owner, they all smiled and introduced themselves to me when we first met, now one year later I’m a loyal customer. Great work guys.

I love this store. Great prices and selection. Not a giant store but rare I go in and they don’t have something I need. They’re always having sales. I also have a soft spot for Wonton the Shitzu.

Great service from the moment you step through the door . All employees are very knowledgable of all products and found everything in less than 5 minutes . I will continue coming to Raw Materials and recommend to all friends in need of art supplies.

I’m surprised by the favorable reviews. Perhaps the owners were having a «bad day» when I visited(that or they are judgmental pricks). They seemed more concerned with whether or not the door was closed(ever hear of a spring?) or if I were willing to spend money the instant I stepped foot into the place. Unfriendly, posing, trendy wannabes.

Really great place to grab what you need and it’s all reasonably priced! The workers are really helpful so if you can’t find something just ask(if they don’t ask you first). It’s conveniently located in DTLA and they even offer parking validation for a garage right across the street. Too easy!

I visited this store with a coworker and we were floored by the great pricing of many of the items — much better than shelling out money at Michael’s! Various papers, canvases, and other crafty things abound. I was looking for some pens but was a little disappointed in their offerings. I did happen to score a cute mini pen for .79 cents! If I want the gaggle of pens I should stick to the stationary section of Kinokuniya Bookstore in Little Tokyo — but for a great prices collection of paper, paintbrushes, oils/acrylic and other neat doo-dads I’ll come back here. Yay arts and crafts!

Great DTLA art store! 40% off of Golden paints and they are in a great location for the DTLA artists… It’s only two blocks from me, so perfect. The guys who work here are really cool as well… I highly recommend them and lots of great material such as the Golden fluid acrylics which I love and are on sale now too… Back to School specials…

Not only are they an indie art store with competitive prices and a very friendly staff, they support the advancement of art by being present and sponsoring festivals like the Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture for two years in a row. I am a Mid-City girl who often finds herself in the Downtown area and when I do, I make sure to stop buy and stock up at Raw Materials. I want to put my money into a business who is invests into the artists, the movement and the intrinsic value of the arts.

Raw Materials is located in Downtown Los Angeles and I came here to get some framing done due to my new art work that I had bought. It was going to cost a lot of money if I wanted it done soo I thought might as well go check out other places and try to find if it would work for me. Walking in this store I just wanted to buy some canvas and start painting myself. Haha They have a lot of materials if you are wanting to draw, paint and be creative. I got my framing done and it was a very reasonable price and I would come back if I get more pieces ! I’m glad I found this friendly store.
