Plenty of parking and close to the airport for a quick pre/post flight bite. Love the aviation ambiance. My favorite dish is the beer cheese soup. It’s some of the best I have ever tasted. The rest of the menu is solid too.

Spent a few hours here waiting for a late flight. Staff were lovely, building was real-life retro interesting and weren’t put under any pressure to leave. Thumbs up.

Have been here for almost twenty years. Not so often, but we have brought herr all our guests visited us in LA, because of tasty food and good service and, which is very important, there is an aviation museum(I dare to call it museum) situated in restaurant and around it. A lot a different real aircrafts are displayed around restaurant showing a history of aviation of the USA. A lot of photo documents and newspaper clippings displayed on the walls of the restaurant. Unfortunatly, they are going to close in few month for complete reconstruction. About food: we had Prime ribs, Lamb chops and Trio of seafood from preset menu. Everybody was happy with meal and the dishes looked nice. About dessert: cheescake was very good, tiramisu was ok.

Went here with my dad for lunch in Dec 2015. Food was good but service was a little slow(they seemed under-staffed). Guy at the carving station was helpful when the host/hostess was busy. The atmosphere is 100% old-fashioned(dark wood, old chairs, etc). It’s bright but definitely an out-of-date version of «classy». My dad(in his late 60s) saw it as upscale, but I saw it as old and out of date. So if that’s the ambiance you’re looking for, great. But don’t expect something hip, trendy, etc., or even truly upscale with classical décor. They seem to have a large function hall right next door and a lot of function rooms near the main dining room. It’s a little hard to find the right entrance and signage isn’t very good(if there at all). Go to what looks like the front(nearest Aviation) and then go to your left and go in the furthest door. Go through the hallway, past the sign that says the DAR(or whatever) meeting is upstairs, and you’ll reach the main dining room. Despite that ambiance(which made me worry about how good the food would be… thinking of episodes of Kitchen Nightmares… restaurants with a gimmick and out-of-date décor), the food was REALLYGOOD. I had the salmon and thought it was great(at least much better than I expected from the look of the place). Had some of my dad’s fries from his burger and they were good, too. So if you’re a food-first person, you’ll probably like this place. I wouldn’t say the menu is progressive, but the salmon was done with a mango salsa of some sort that was good. Of course the best thing about this place is getting to sit and watch the planes land. Don’t forget to tour their airplane museum, too. Staff were friendly. I’d definitely go again and recommend it to others.

Came here for a function for church this evening. Everything was nice until the food was served. We were given a choice of baked chicken or Salmon. Well the waiter came brought our plates and I began to cut my chicken with the butter knife that was given when I noticed that my piece as well as my husbands was completely pink and raw looking in the inside. I called her over to ask if I could have it taken back cause it was undercooked she told no I would have to eat it the way it came. Needless to say I was completely upset as well disappointed that no one did anything to rectify the issue that I had.

You must try this place once. You may be pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food is here. I sure was. Dinner can be a little pricey, but if your ex-boyfriend’s paying, you definitely have to go.(We’re good friends now.) :P We came here for dinner because who doesn’t want to see airplanes fly over head while dining in perfect weather and checking out old planes? So cool! There was four of us. We started out at the bar which was a ton of fun. The bartenders are humble and friendly. Then, we moved into the dining room where we were seated and fed an amazing meal of steaks and salmon after a few rounds of flavorful appetizers. The place is old school, but gorgeous inside. Overall, the service was impeccable and the food – fantastic! You really can’t beat what I would consider a «hidden gem» of a restaurant on the westside.

Nice old place and I would recommend, BUT service is very bad. I type this 15mins and still waiting for waitress to bring coffee. Staff is lazy and you feel they really don’t want to be here, so try and avoid working. Be ready to beg for survive

We planned a big birthday celebration here with about 60 guests in the LeMay Room which had very scenic and impressive views which looked out at the historic planes, LAX flight paths, and restaurant outdoor seating area/patio. The room itself was spacious and also led to a private courtyard area where guests could spill out into. The guests indulged in the attractive lunch buffet where there was a good variety of dishes including salads, vegetables, rice, mashed potatoes, and main dishes(beef, chicken, salmon, etc.) along with soup, a taco and pasta bar, and roast beef. There was also a dessert table which included bread pudding, various cakes, and cookies. We couldn’t believe how many guests raved about the food! Some talked of returning in the near future. Leonor, the event sales manager, Teresa, our head«Captain», and Maria were nothing but kind, helpful, accommodating, polite, and friendly. Teresa especially went out of her way and above and beyond to make our event a real success. I had been to two events in the past at the Proud Bird in the Grand Ballroom for an anniversary party and a retirement party. We were very pleased and satisfied that we chose this venue and happy that our event turned out so well with many compliments!

We tried this place out on October 4th. We really enjoyed it. The staff was friendly, food was great. There wasn’t a service fee on our bill so they don’t do that anymore. We would go back. They are doing a big renovation starting in January so go before then. Nacho/taco bar, hot platters, waffles, omelette station, crab leggs, oysters, shrimp, desserts galore!

The fact that a place like this still exists kind of gives me faith in the world. It’s a traditional steakhouse with wood paneling, strong drinks and it does not give a damn about your gluten-free diet. Think Don Draper and the kind of place he’d lunch in and you have the Proud Bird. I had the prime rib and beer cheese soup, both were decadent and enjoyable. I was very happy with the delicious, juicy taste of my prime rib, and I can be picky. Was it the best meal of my life? Nah, but the atmosphere makes up for what the food may slighty lack in Thomas Keller aspirations. The service was polite and helpful with no airs. This was especially impressive given that there was a large party going on in their event hall at the same time we were eating dinner. Dinner dress code is fairly casual(though I’d advise leaving the ripped jeans and flip-flops at home). I may just be scheduling all future flights into LAX to arrive around dinnertime.

Been here a few times for company functions, loved the quality lunch buffet and courteous service, inexpensive for the location and history of the place. Come and enjoy the food even if you’re not into vintage airplanes, and if you’re an aviation buff like me, the food is just extra icing on the scrumptious cake! Will have to try their Sunday brunch sometime.

Dine LA2015– meal #4… First of all, I love airplanes and flying. To sit next to the window and look out at vintage airplanes while the modern airplanes thunder in for a landing at LAX– well that’s my idea of fun. The Proud Bird has been an L.A. institution since 1966 and has recently been given a new lease on life with plans for a long-term stay and major remodel. You know how it is with destination restaurants or any restaurant with a cool view… usually the food is secondary. I had been to the Proud Bird before, but could not remember what I’d eaten– a bad sign. So, on a rainy July evening during Dine LA, I decided to give the Proud Bird another spin. The three courses for $ 30 Dine LA lured me in. First course: melanzane alla parmigiana– grilled eggplant, tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil leaves– really delicious– but NOT on their regular menu. I told my waiter that it SHOULD be! Second course: Grilled Seafood Trio with jumbo shrimp, fresh scallops, fresh Atlantic salmon, saffron rice & fresh seasonal vegetables– delicious and big enough to take half home. Third course: homemade mascarpone tiramisu– a great way to end a good meal. The service was friendly and attentive. Whenever I dine alone, I get more attention, and this time one of the chefs came out to ask how everything was. Maybe they think I’m a food critic or something and they’d be correct since I write for Unilocal! It’s a unique location with good food. Recommended if you are in the area and have someone, young, old or in between who loves airplanes and aviation history.

Loved it! It’s the perfect place to hang out while the freeways clear up… The food was good, the service was good, and all the airplane stuff inside was great! I had a salad, and it was tasty and generously sized. The view is also awesome. With the old airplanes outside, and being right by the approach for lax, you get great views… And they have headphones to listen to the tower! I will definitely be back… Maybe even to try the brunch!

As a pilot, I must love this place. There are fun displays, cool aviation memorabilia, and you can watch the planes land at LAX while you stuff your face! Its definitely a spot you should check out at least once, for the fun factor. Sadly, I did have to knock off a star because the food was a bit below my expectations. While the bread was tasty, my salad was a tad wilted and the blue cheese dressing had the consistency of water. The steak I ordered rare, was rare from edge to edge(is, no seared exterior with marvelous rare interior… Maybe this is normal for the type of meat?), and the mashed potatoes a little dry. But the veggies were great and the cheesecake delicious. My waiter was awesome, and the nice beer selection had tasty options. End of the day. Try it out at least once… and maybe again! Supporting local aviation related establishments is always a joy :)

It is Mother’s day and were celebrating at The Proud Bird. It is Sunday Brunch and they have so much to choose from Omlettes, Waffles, Menudo, Ribs, Fish, and So many dessert dishes to that you have to make room for. We sat by the window and watched the planes. The staff was friendly. Mom loved it, so were coming back for fathers day!!! Great place to come and eat.

This place is great and holds many great memories for me. I mostly go for their Saturday or Sunday brunches so can’t attest to the regular menu, but the brunch buffet is fantastic. Sunday has more options, including unlimited mimosas so that’s my preference but both are goo. They always have an omelette/pasta station where you can make made to order dishes, which I love. The past station included some options like shrimp and pesto sauce that most don’t have so I loved that. They also have a salad bar an a good selection of cooked items like rice pilaf, seasoned potatoes, salmon, chicken dishes, etc. They also have a meat carving station, which I am told as good but I haven’t had it. The mimosa/non-alcoholic beverage service is always great as well, with refills easy to come by. For the Sunday brunch, they also have a desert station where they make made to order Bananas foster, so good. What is really great about this place though is the history, it’s like a mini aviation museum. They have old photos of the Wright Brothers, Amelia Earhart, etc. as well as lots of old planes to check out. For the little ones and the big kids in us all lol, it is so fun to watch all the planes take off and land from LAX too. We brought my 4 year old niece and 2 year old nephew and they had so much fun pointing out all the planes for us. Definitely a great spot for anyone in the South Bay or the Westside to check out.

I wanted to give them 5 Stars, however that would not be fair, the customer service was 5 Star as the staff was friendly and very accommodating. When it comes to food I like the highest quality and freshest foods available. I could tell that they used a lot of frozen foods on the Brunch as well as pre-cut fruits and veggies SORRY I DON’T DOFROZEN, unless its Yogurt or Ice Cream. 48.00 for Brunch is not a lot for Easter or any special holiday, I just wanted you to be aware if you plan on going that the venue is old(has a lot of history and you can see the planes coming in for landing at LAX). I was disappointed because my FAV Salad was not as fresh as I wanted and I could tell it came pre-cut. SMHWT is wrong with those people, did they not know that I was in the HOUSE! :):):) PICKYME! On the plus side they have several choices of food, Italian, American, Mexican, Kid friendly, Omlet bar, Pasta bar, Taco bar, Ice Carving and Chocolate Fountain, they also have a full bar for cocktails the Mimosa’s are included in the price and the Brunch is all you can eat, however on special holidays you can only stay for 2 hours MAX. They are busy and like to turn the tables(they have the fastest busing system I have ever seen, as soon as a table is empty they come and clean it instantly). Over all an Old School venue with Back in the Day service!

Hadn’t been in some 45 plus years, we were excited and looking forward to Valentines day champagne brunch. Saturday was a beautiful day, great weather & we really loved watching the planes land from our window table. Upon our arrived, the front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating, however that’s the last of the good news! The wait staff had to be asked for everything and I mean even refills of mermosa’s and to please take our used plates away. As for the food, it was mediocre with a few standout exceptions. The biggest issue was with the hot food, it’s supposed to be just that hot, not cool to cold. We found the buffet serving trays did not have any heat elements or heat sourse? After factoring in the $ 33.00 cost, which is very resonable we gave the buffet a 2.5 — 3 star!
