Damn good place! I used to live in this neighborhood. The people at this store are very friendly, accomodating and the selection of foods are GREAT and, most importantly in this devastating recession/depression, REASONABLY priced! That is why I still drive from my new(1 yr old) neighborhood in Miracle Mile to over here. It is worth it, and BETTER than old dirty Raplh’s.

Plaza Oaxaca is a legit neighborhood market with a hidden treasure: a delicious, inexpensive place to get hot, prepared food inside. Saturdays at the food counter feature menudo, posole, along with carnitas being freshly grilled outside. All other days, you’ll find a rotating menu of such main dishes as birria, carne asada, crispy chicharrones de pollo y puerco, picadillo, y mas. You can get the meats in tacos or burritos(3 small or 1 large respectively for under $ 5) as well as in quart takeout containers. Sometimes pupusas, tamales, and other treats are available. Quarts of their yummy beans and rice are $ 3. And the food is good – darn tasty. This is the real deal, genuine Mexican food with freshly made hot sauces and not a lick of orange cheese in sight. The market part is hit and miss; some highlights are a huge section of hot sauces, locally made and delectable plantain chips, and a small fresh bakery section. They have milk and eggs and many other basics. Some of the produce is okay, but some of it is well past its prime. I’m told the chorizo in the deli is fantastic, but I’ve not tried anything from it(except what I’ve eaten from the restaurant, which again, is really good). If this place is convenient to you, it’s well worth the visit. ETA: Drove by the other day; apparently had new owners and name has changed. Don’t know whether this review is applicable anymore.
