Best Philly Cheesesteaks in LA. We went to Philly to try«real» Philly cheesesteaks and were disappointed after frequenting Philly West. You may have to wait a while for your food as there is not a lot of staff, but it’s worth it.

alright you dam yuppies, aka you so called elites, let a REAL Elite tell you how to rate a place. As i stated before if a place says they serve philly cheese steaks, the only way that you will get a REAL philly cheese steak is if you step inside and see the following: 1) amoroso or other rolls that are from philly and they specify that on their menus 2) birch beer tasty cakes etc. 3) thin sliced ribeye 4) has the phillies, and other Philadelphia memorabilia. 5) has an option for wiz(if you don’t know what that is, then your not in a place that serves REAL philly cheese steaks) the place doesn’t have to have this BUT if they do not have any of the above mentioned items especially the rolls, then they are NOT i repeat NOT philly cheese steaks 6) this is the most important. The these steak must be so greasy that it soaks into the bread and makes the wrapping paper translucent. THAT is how you know you got a REAL Philly cheese steak. I learned all this from Philidelphia locals. HOWEVER #5 i found out that #1 and #5 can be an exception because as said from a Philly local wiz is bought more so by the 20 and under crowd also the bread doesn’t have to come from philly it does however have to bee like an amoroso roll, warm and soft and chewy on they inside and slightly crisp on the outside. I am on a cheesesteak quest because although I like Phillys best in Burbank i know there are just as real ones out there. I was kinda skeptickal at first about this place because they got #‘s2−4 right BUT what made me go ehhh was that they did not have Wiz and no amoroso rolls, but like i stated abouve #1 and #5 were an exception here and I was kinda iffy about driving so far, but I was a man on a quest. Laurie the server and bartender, let me in on the lowdown about the rolls and the fact that wiz is for tourists and young kids and to trust her, especially because she is from Philly. One bite and BLAM was she right, SUPER greasy and made the paper translucent. Also the marinara sauce was not at all overpowering, it was just the right touch! so to that fool that said«omg noo nooo not marinara sauce :(«shaddup and eat some real philly cheese steak. To the idiot that said they are philly cheese steak conniseiours and when i looked at their review at another place and said they liked CALI cheese steak??! get outta hea !! so again kids, if you do not see much of the list that i listed above, or a combination of just #6 and #4 then your going to not get a REAL philly cheesesteak like you will get here.

The white old lady in the front counter is so rude. I been there a few times and she’s always rude for no apparent reason. Please work on your customer service lady!

Best Chicken Cheese Steak EVER! Really cool atmosphere made me actually feel like I was at home in philly. The bread was awesome and I find that so difficult to find being that I am from philly where the bread is amazing. Our waitress was really nice and we just had an overall great experience! Will definitely be back.

Skeezy stinky bar with crusty regulars. What more could you want, really? The cheesesteak was surprisingly good, as were the fries. Meaty, salty, soft, creamy cheese, delightfully tang to the meat. Great place to go drink too much, eat some greasy food and walk home after a shitty day.

I’m pretty picky about my cheesesteaks, and I still haven’t found a great cheesesteak in LA. My fave cheesesteak in LA had been the Westwood South Street before it closed; I thought they were on par with the East Coast cheesesteaks I grew up eating. I think Boo’s is not bad, but South Street was better. I’ve only been to Philly West twice. They put a tomato/marinara-kind of sauce on the cheesesteak, which is not what I’ve experienced and not what I prefer. Meat is ok, and ordering double meat would probably be a good move. Onions and cheese could have been more generous. The cheesesteak is also not delightfully huge :-) the way that some are. The bartender who took my order was very efficient and accommodating. They offer a very good condiment bar of various sweet and spicy peppers and other condiments. Other patrons who were in the bar for drinks and TV were enjoying themselves. I’m glad to have Philly West in my West LA neighborhood, but I miss South Street! Still, having the Philly West option is better than no Westside cheesesteak.

I stopped in here a few days ago after driving by in the evening. I was craving a cheesesteak for some random reason and I couldn’t help but notice the lit signage. I go in and it looks like a dive bar and there are TVs all over the place with various sports games broadcasting. I head right over to the bartender to order. This place is already awesome and reminds me of the neighborhood bars I grew up around back home in Northeast Philly. He rings me up and it’s 8 dollars and something cents for a cheesesteak and diet coke. The low price got my attention because I was not sure if I should be happy or wary. I will say that the bartender took my requests for scooping the roll, fried onions and light ketchup on the roll and actually knew what I was talking about — which was refreshing to experience as a native Philly guy in LA. I waited for my food, it came out, and I wolfed it down because I had been quite hungry at the time. It was amazing — the best cheesesteak I’ve had out in LA — by far. Philly’s Best, South Street, Whiz, etc. I’ve had a bunch out here and I’m glad I finally found this one — cuz it’s the best. Better late than never. Enjoy!

Good eats at fair price, wide selection of beer, and sports on TVs! For about 6 clams, you get a good-sized sandwich in a variety of different combinations and though they don’t use cheez whiz, it’s pretty darn tasty, especially if you discover the condiments in the back. We found this green hot sauce that livened up every steak sandwich at the table. Really good skin-on fries there — crispy outside, soft inside. The barkeep that night was really cool and efficient. It’s a plus that there’s parking in the back. The only drawback is that the kitchen, like many bars, closes at 10:00 p.m. Will have to try the hoagies next time I visit.

I live just a few blocks away from Philly West and I think it fills a niche that is otherwise missing from the area — cheap, divey bar. There are really no other cheap, divey places I can walk to. It’s a blast being here during sports games, too. A ton of locals come out of the woodwork to watch and yell at the TVs, eat cheesesteak and drink beer. That kind of local environment really makes me happy :) They are, of course, happy to yell at the TV with non-locals. The beer selection is actually pretty decent for such a divey place, but it often tastes a bit off, like they aren’t cleaning the lines on the draft beer often enough. All in all, I’m really glad this place exists.

This place has a dark, divey, sports bar ambience. It’s nothing particularly hip during lunch hours, so don’t expect to see many hipsters swarming the bar. I have no idea what it’s like here at night time during playoffs. It’s pretty small and easy to miss this little hole in the wall. The owner is very friendly and works the bar weekdays where she also takes food orders and they have multiple TVs playing sports games though the only reason I come is for the food. They have a shared parking lot out back with the adjacent businesses which is normally full, so try for the meters out front, though I typically walk from my office nearby. You must, absolutely must order a Philly cheese steak here-any of them, though I’m partial to the mushroom pepper. They’re delicious, made fresh to order, and the price is right! You can get crazy and order double, and triple meat, mushrooms, etc which I’ve seen the regulars do on multiple occasions. I myself have only ventured for the double meat, and it was amazing. If you’re looking for a healthier option, they have an incredibly flavorful grilled chicken sandwich. My only complaint is the only available sides are cold slaw and thick cut fries, neither of which are anything special, and they don’t have avocados on the menu. C’mon! Do yourself a favor and stick to the sandwiches!

Ok, you spunky little dive, you earned an extra star just for the nacho fries and that fresh, no-skimping-on-ingredients hoagie we had late Friday night. You knew I just had to try it and it did not disappoint. We’ll be back. Besides, the clientele at 10P is waaay different than the boozed-up dudes that are there at 1A(or 11A for that matter). So yeah, definitely a new neighborhood hangout.

These are always the best ones… The hidden lite gems! So happy my fiancé and I fell into this little gem! If you are feeling for a good laid back vibe with unreal sandwiches, this is the place. Great prices and KILLER food. I are the turkey sandwich melted. Soooo good! The fries are great also. My fiancé enjoyed the Italian sausage san which and ate it so fast he ordered another! Second he ordered the chicken breast sandwich and loved it. Bartender is very sweet :)

I’m not from Philly but I think it’s a great cheesesteak nevertheless. Divey atmosphere but the food is good.

The food is amazing! They have the best cheese fries! I ordered the pastrami and it was so good; one of the best I’m LA! It’s a really small dive bar, cool staff, and clean bathrooms. They have tons of TVs everywhere and the bartender is always close to put in a drink order, but the waitress is always there, too. It’s a gem! I wish I lived closer so I could go more ;)

An absolutely fabulous and genuine Phlly Cheese Steak sandwich as long as you don’t order the tomato sth. or other on it; don’t know about the rest. I think the sides are so-so, but which such a fantastic sandwich, who cares! Can’t wait to go back!

Along the trails of yesteryear, was a fun bar with great burgers and cheesesteaks. It was called«Philly West». But dude, that is not how I would describe this aging bar & grill today. A ownership change about 20 years ago has equated to divey, with dirty and stained menus. My intention was to return to eat and drink, but opted for a quick draft beer and exit to somewhere nice. What it is as of Aug 31, 2013: — — — — — — — — — — — — - 1. A place for aged regulars 2. Cheap happy hour beers with buddies. Go for the pitchers. 3. $ 7 and under hoagies, burgers, and various cheesesteaks The prices are really inexpensive for the food and the standard domestic beers, but the environment it’s not appetizing at all. It’s time for an update, Philly West, and start the process with a good scrub down.

Review is for the bar only. Advertised as a great sports bar. No pool table, disco/funk music blaring. No audio on the baseball game on tv. At 5 pm, no beer specials. Business charges tax on top. Worst of all, the pint ordered isn’t a pint. Another cheap-ass bar that seeks to gyp me out of a few ounces of beer. 1 star for the bar. Perhaps I’ll one day try their Philly cheesesteak, but I don’t want to come back.

I’ve never been to Philadelphia so I can’t attest to authenticity BUT they do have a very good cheese steak sandwich. Nice little bar. A real bar, not some tourist spot or TGI Fridays. Places like this are getting harder and harder to find. If you’re in the area, I recommend stopping by for a bite and a beer or two or three :)
