It’s time to get some art and culture on. Surprised? Well, the bitch-queen of Unilocal is not as dumb as ya thank. Contrary to what you think you know, the bitch queen has an uprising as complicated as a Mozart symphony. This we’ll reference later, but for now… follow me. C’mon, c’mon! Let’s ease on down to the Pan African Film and Arts Festival. This is the 16th Annual and it is always new and fresh. Grab your coat and hat, rev up the hooptie, get to the bus stop or hitch a ride to the Baldwin Hills Plaza. Yeah, Crenshaw and King Blvd, but where else would it be? Beverage Hills? Mali-who? West Hellay? Naw, y’all. It’s all right here! There are two parts to this festival; art and films. The films are shown all day long at the Magic Johnson Theater and hail from filmmakers from around the world. Short films from Senegal, Brazil, Mexico, America and beyond. Epic pieces that you may never see on the big screen. The films are shown all day long so you’ll have to go to the website to see the list of films that will be screened this year along with a brief description. There is generally a more progressive audience, so you won’t have to worry about the usual patronage yelling and shouting«Move your ass, girl! The monster is right behind you!» But my heart is where the art is! Inside the mall on both floors are artists from around the country and other parts of the planet. Original art, crafted jewelry, prints, ceramics and you can meet the actual artist. Alas, the bitch queen is not an exhibiting type of artist. I’m a brooding genius with a degree in bitchology, not a great mix for public consumption. Besides, this is a family event and my nudes are not allowed. Ha!(Anyways, if you’ve seen one naked lady painting you’ve seen them all.) Nudes and demures aside, you’ll be glad you checked it out. While you are there, visit the only three story Wal-Mart. Nope, they don’t have any fine art, but it is art deco. And if you can’t afford an original piece, you can go to the picture section and get a mass produced print for around 5.99. You know, if that’s your thang.
