From the outside the Orpheum beckons, calling for you to enter its 1900’s French style Beaux arts façade. Located on Broadway in the Theatre District, the Orpheum is making its comeback. The host to many theatrical, musical and movie location shoots. Upon opening, it was the venue for a burlesque show, in addition to holding concerts for the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Lena Horne. The Orpheum architect also created the Wiltern and El Capitan in Hollywood. When you walk into the main lobby, you are greeted by soaring carved ceilings of which great attention to detail was paid, cool to the touch white marble walls, smooth silk woven panels, plush carpeting reflective of the 1920’s and of course an iron and marble grand staircase. The Orpheum Theatre has 6 floors of dressing rooms, a world class Dolby sound system, a private lounge with wooden paneling and one of the only surviving Wurlitzer theatre organs in the country. The acoustics were well planned and there are no bad seats within this theatre. The box seats are veiled with deep red velvet curtains gently pulled to the side by thick golden decorative ropes. The main seating area is ample with comfortable seats and armrests. The parking accommodations are located in an adjacent lot and private security is offered for events. If you are in the downtown area, this is a must see not to be missed. Well worth the traffic and a short walk with street parking.

Came here for the Davines World Wide Hair Tour with my team, and this theatre is gorgeous! The architect and attention to detail is outstanding! It definitely felt like«old Hollywood!» I can’t wait to bring my family back to see a show here. The staff was very nice and they had a good selection at their snack bar area.

Beautiful, historic venue that is central and easy to access. Treated my boyfriend to his favorite comedian and podcaster, Bill Burr, on New Year’s Eve. We follow him like The Grateful Dead. We’re Burrheads. It should have been our 5th time seeing him in 2015, but Jack’s Big Schtick had been canceled in September. Because we opted for the 7:30 show, there wasn’t a ton of traffic getting downtown. Broadway was blocked off that night for the marathon, but we bypassed the busy detours. Parking was the only issue. Looking back, we should have Über’d. The lot across the street was $ 20(probably because of the busy holiday) and the valets took longer than normal to retrieve the cars. The best seats I could score were Center Orchestra Row Q, which put us slightly left of the center stage. I didn’t mind because it wasn’t like watching a band play and I didn’t take any photos during the performance anyway. The seats were not terribly comfortable and the rows are incredibly narrow. Luckily, we didn’t have people walking over us to go to the bar/bathroom. I did appreciate that there were ushers to walk us to our seats. Once the show started, however, it turned into more of a free for all. It was a little distracting to see people who arrived late, struggling to find their seats. The opening comics that night: Jason Lawhead, Paul Virzi, and Joe Bartnik. They were all hilarious and similar enough in style to Burr that any Burr fan would appreciate them. I had never seen Virzi or Bartnik before, but Burr talks about them so much in his podcast that I knew they were going to be funny. Lawhead was great. We saw him over the summer when he opened at Burr’s show in San Manuel. He had really polished his act since and the bit about Doc Emrick commentating his life was the funniest thing that night. Comedy shows are so different from music acts. The transitions are so seamless that I had a hard time figuring out who said what that night. This historic theatre is an LA institution and definitely something you need to see for yourself to appreciate.

Came here for 715pm showing of Bill Burr on NYE. The theater is beautiful! I wish they had the sound a smidge higher during all the stand up sets as that would have made it perfect. They said doors would open a 615pm, but we arrived at 645pm ish and THAT’S when they had just opened the doors and let people in I think, so we saved ourselves 30 min of standing in the cold for nothing. They have restrooms upstairs and downstairs. They also did NOT turn down the lights(like they did at Seinfeld at Pantages) which I think would have lent itself better to the evening for both the comedians and the audience as there was enough of a constant trickle of people going to get more wine or go to the bathroom etc. Bill mentioned we were such an uptight crowd by saying he knows we wanted to go out that night but also get our 8 hours of sleep(vs going to the 1030pm show). LOL They sold alcohol etc that you could drink in the theater. Can’t recall if they had food. Parking in the surrounding areas was $ 6-$ 10 even at 630pm but around 9pm/10pm the prices on NYE were about $ 20. There were a lot of parking garages nearby. There were a couple of eateries. One ramen place was packed, so was Starbucks on 6th, there is a CVS nearby but some other restaurants were DEAD. There is also a huge KFC. I would come here again if someone I really wanted to see was here. The area is a bit sketch with not enough eateries.

Not my favorite place to see a show but i had a good time. There’s parking within a reasonable walking distance. The venue itself is clearly old but has its charm. One thing that I noticed is its not really great if you’re disabled because there’s a lot of stairs if you have to go to the bathroom or to get a drink. You’re date can go get your drinks but they can’t go to the restroom for you. So that aspect kinda ruined it for me. I didn’t see an elevator but what I did see was some of the staff eating some food from a near by restaurant on my way to the bathrooms which pointed out the fact that this place doesn’t offer any proper snacks. They do offer little bags of chips. On new years eve you couldn’t provide anything better than chips? How about a free glass of champagne. Haha I know I’m dreaming. Bill Burr was great though!

Cool old-school décor and vibe. Great sound. No bad seats in the house. in the heart of revitalized(ing) DTLA, walking distance from great bars and good eats. Definitely on my list of places to catch more shows.

I came here to see Chris Tomlin(Adore) last week and I had an awesome time. Lighting and sound was great and I really liked how the audiences’ singing reverberated through the venue as we sang along. Lots of parking nearby — I think most were paid lots. Some inexpensive some not. Drive around and check. A handful of places to eat close by(I ended up at The LA Chapter) which is across the street on the next block over.

This venue has been renovated and it’s pretty cozy. The layout is actually very good for a concert venues(the only exception might be the restrooms, although those weren’t bad). I saw deathcab for cutie and it was a good show, very intimate and the acoustics were good. I also really liked the lighting. One thing I will say is if your tall(I’m 6’3) your probably going to be a bit uncomfortable in the seating.

My week of finally attending shows at some of L.A.‘s most ornate theaters continues, as I also took in a show at the nearby Mayan for the first time. And just like that venue I walked out of this one impressed by what I saw. The Orpheum reminds me of a love child between the Wiltern and El Capitan, if that manages to make any sense. The design work in here is opulent, harking back to the old days when going to the theater was something to be treated with respect. People dressed up when they went to the movies. Here, on this night, the place was stuffed to the gills with long-haired metalheads growling along to Opeth. The downstairs bar has a great lounge area, perfect for grabbing a drink and chilling out before heading to your seat. There’s another bar up top and in back that has more space, but the one downstairs is way cooler. I have to say, I was not impressed with the sound here. The band sounded worse than any other time I’ve seen them in the past, especially the drums. There just wasn’t any real kick to anything. Kind of a bummer when you’ve paid good money to see a show, but sometimes them’s the breaks.

Visited 11÷20÷15 Came here to see America’s Got Talent. Beautiful venue. Staircases wide. Chandeliers galore. Good sound system. Seats comfortable. Good views. Plenty bathrooms which is always a good thing. Several areas to sit during intermission. Eating area could use some improvement though. They have a TV screen in the eating area which is nice in case you want to watch the show there while snacking. Old fashion elevator which reminded me of the Tower of Terror at CA Adventure. It was fun exploring the place before the show started. Parking several places. Found one for $ 7 short walk. Clifton’s not to far(walking distance) to go to after the show or pizza just around the corner.

Interior is really nice looking… Our seats were next to the railing so that leaves NO leg room… but on the plus there’s no one blocking your view… watched opeth there last night… they do serve food but you should just hit up the taco place down the street… Better food and cheaper… overall was a good experience…

We went to see a show at The Orpheum that was just OK. But I’m glad we did so that we check out the venue. Beautiful place, you wouldn’t think that, judging it from outside. Don’t be scared of downtown area, check this place out. It’s a beautiful, historic theater, nicely renovated, I enjoyed looking at details everywhere, on the walls, furniture, etc. It’s intimate, cute and charming. I wish the girl next to us wasn’t on the phone, talking for 20 minutes till I had to shut up her up. If you pay a decent amount of money to go and see a band, don’t you actually want to see them and listen to their music? Otherwise, enjoyable evening. Loved their seats, red, velvety ones. There’s parking lots around, we just took the subway and walked to it. Not bad, even later, after the show.

Came last night to watch a Mexican Motivational Speaker called Cesar Lozano and the place was packed. Have never been to this theater that I can remember, old Los Angeles, I remember as a child watching concerts and movies in The Million Dollar and other theaters. Parking is in the rear but there is a side driveway you can use next to Two Boots Pizza. Parking was $ 10 in the surrounding areas. Theater has been cleaned up but you can see its years, more on the curtains then anywhere else. Seats seemed upgraded of course with new lighting and paint. If you get the chance check it out for yourself.

I went to the Orpheum a few weeks ago to attend the taping of the finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race, season 7. This was a six hour commitment, during which we followed tons of instructions to cheer and stand and laugh on cue. Basically, the kind of thing that people agree to attend as long as they get to go for free. I paid $ 55 for my ticket, as did my friends, one of whom flew in from Chicago just to see this show. I know I speak for everyone when I say it was absolutely worth it. But I’ll try not to get too sidetracked with Drag Race stuff – after all, the Orpheum is an all-year-round theater, and this was just one night’s show. I was impressed with the venue even aside from all the drag glamor. The décor was gorgeous, very classically sumptuous, with beautiful high ceilings and ornate details all around. Our seats were comfortable, and though they were on the balcony(the cheapest available tickets), they afforded us a grand view. I suspect there weren’t many bad seats in the house. The only times we had trouble seeing were when drag queens did splits at the very front part of the stage. Probably not a problem for most shows. There was a bar/lounge area we didn’t explore, as well as a nice lobby for socializing before and after the show. I think there was even a mini red carpet. My friends and I had a wonderful time at the Orpheum. It’s a great place to catch a show, though it obviously helps if you’re already obsessed with whatever’s on the calendar.

It’s clean, and does the job but I just wasn’t that huge of a fan of this location. It’s a hassle trying to find parking, which I mean is normal for any venue probably, so nothing new there. The venue is pretty small, probably why most people like it since it give off a more cozey feeling when you’re watching someone you love. But the seatings are just terrible to me. Some of the seats have two cup holders right next to each other… so you are basically sitting sideways… I couldn’t even cross my legs because of how close the seats in front of me were to my legs. oh and also because the cupholders were in the way.

Beautiful venue to see the Trailer Park Boys. Somewhat ironic lol Can’t say enough of how clean this place is. I’ve been to theaters where they just dim lights to hide the decaying décor and mysterious stains. The Orpheum knows it’s pretty and keeps it classy. Has a downstairs area where you can order Mexican food and drinks. Typical Hollywood prices for drinks so expect to pay to get sloppy. Would definitely return and recommend to anyone curious about the venue. At the end of the show, everyone was lighting up joints without any problems. Grade A in my book. DE-CEENT.

Gorgeous historic venue — reminded me of a much smaller, older version of the Wiltern. Comfy and close seats no matter where you are, so I’d say seeing any kind of show here is worth it and there are multiple parking lots nearby. Saw Trailer Park Boys and everything went great considering the chaotic nature of that show, haha. One thing to note: when I bought tickets I thought I had extreme left(row Q, seats 1&3), but it ended up being middle middle, next to the aisle… WAY better than expected!!! So the seat numbers/map on ticket sites are incorrect, just fyi.

Went to the Orpheum last week to see Broken Bells and man, this has to be one of my favorite venues I have been to so far in LA. First of all, the neighborhood is booming. There was once a time when I wouldn’t dare be around this place at night, but those times are no more. There is plenty to do before and after a show in a 3 block radius. Some suggestions for pre-show imbibing are: Broadway Bar and The Stocking Frame. The new Ace Hotel is also a quick walk away. The theater itself is too gorgeous for words, so you should just go see it yourself. Also, now in my late 20s, I can really appreciate a venue with seating. I know, 16-year old me is throwing a fit, but going to a civilized, adult gathering is much more appealing to me than say, throwing elbows to get next to the stage at the Palladium(sorry Palladium). Also pleasantly surprised at drink prices, which is $ 7 – 8 for a glass of beer or wine, cash only. There is an ATM. And you can bring your drinks with you to your seats. All in all, cannot wait to come to another civilized, adult music show here soon! I sound so old…

We came here on Friday night to see Aziz Ansari, the theater itself is sooo beautiful, I was so in awe with the beautiful décor, it was very classic and just soo beautifully done. Seriously this place was beautiful. The chandeliers, the décor, the high ceilings, it was very clean. My biggest complaint was the seats, omg the seats were awful, I would say I’m tall but I was soo uncomfortable, there was noooo leg room, I was constantly shifting throughtout the show to be more comfortable. But overall we had a good time!
