We were quietly filming a fully permitted feature film in the public alley behind One Take at midnight. The owner opened the garage door, blasted music, and demanded money from production to stop the music. Pure extortion. We refused to pay and moved to the next alley down. After we had moved, he cut the music and closed the garage door. If you like dealing with jerks who extort money from other artists, this is the studio for you. If you want negative energy while you do your photo shoot, this is the place. It seems likely that he might halt production in the studio for extra pay — that’s the quality of people you’re dealing with at this studio. Do you really want to take a chance on that with your project?

This studio finds itself right in the middle of quite the offbeat location in an industrial part of the city. It’s surrounded by warehouses that look like they might have closed up shop years ago, but then you’ll see a delivery truck pull in. The front of One Take Studio itself is very unassuming. I had to check my call sheet twice to make sure I was at the right place. The 821 was unmistakable, so I tried the front door. It opened right up, and I walked into a beautiful cyclorama. I carried on straight ahead through an open door ahead of me to a lounge area/client waiting room. Very chic and modern, very comfortable. Two giant couches with a great wooden coffee table between them, with piles of magazines ranging from Italian Vogue to Digital Photo Pro. Definitely catering to the type of people who would find themselves on that couch. There was also a bar in that room where people had set up their laptops to work/share/etc. Off to the side of this room is the hair/makeup room. Three giant mirrors propped against a brick wall, with a connected private bathroom, including shower. There is also a conference room further back that makes great use of available light. There was a small table in the corner with DJ equipment. Even further past the conference room was an indoor garage. They say on their site that it fits 5 cars. We had three oversized cars in there, and i could see maybe just one more fitting. I ended up parking on the next side street Violet. All day parking, and I never had to search for a spot. Also, we were here for two days. Over-night, the staff here repainted the cyclorama for us. The next morning we came in, we found the entire studio as we found it our first day. In pristine condition. One small problem we had was with the wi-fi. It continually kicked us offline, and my laptop got to the point where it would just no longer connect, even when other Macs in the room had connection. Boo. The indoor garage as well as the off-the-map location make this a perfect studio if you are shooting someone who wants to keep a low-profile, and not draw too much attention to themselves. Also, the staff is great. Always there to answer questions/help out if something wasn’t working, very courteous and professional. Call or email them for pricing.
