My girlfriend bought me the Intro to Woodworking class this past Saturday as a gift, and it was a huge amount of fun. Laura, Jeff, and Lee were super informative, and it was great to get to know them over the course of the day. The other participants and I all made cutting boards, which seemed like a relatively simple process at the beginning, but there was a lot we could learn along the way. We found out how to use different shop machines, such as the jointer, planer, and table saw, and also about choosing wood and other aesthetic choices. It was a cool neighborhood, as well, with many options for lunch, so no worries there. I’m excited to go back for another course soon!

In February of 2015 I took the ‘Dovetailed Step Stool’ workshop here and it was great. I walked away with a stool that is quite nice. The instructors Michael Bernstein and Laura Zahn were very knowledgeable and quite willing to share it. The studio itself is great with amazing benches and tons of light. I’m really looking forward to other classes they offer.

The dovetailed stepstool workshop with Laura and Michael was a really great experience. The materials, machines and information were exactly what I I had hoped for and more to get me started with some of the more advanced woodworking techniques. The walnut stool I came away with is top notch and I have already started to apply the knowledge to personal projects. I will definitely be on the lookout for more classes offered by Off The Saw and would highly recommend anyone with the curiosity or desire for woodworking knowledge to give them a visit.

Since moving to LA several years ago, I’ve been looking for a place to learn and practice carpentry skills. I found such a place at Off The Saw. During the Intro to Woodworking class I learned to select, evaluate and mill wood using a variety of tools and made a beautiful chopping block on display in my kitchen. The instructors: Laura Zahn, Jeff Perry, Casey McCafferty –all seasoned wood crafters, provided excellent hands-on and one-to-one instruction that made the experience meaningful and fun. I’m looking forward to taking another class at Off The Saw.
