This place is great! It does get busy around lunch because it’s by Kaiser and a large nursing home. Great prices too! Chinese chicken salad is the best

We stopped here before an appointment at Kaiser. I am so happy we did! The food was delicious! I loved my gyro and the dolmas were one of the best I’ve had(and I am picky). So happy to find a good lunch spot for when we are in the area.

This is a great place for Mediterranean food. The gyro meat is delicious. My wife and I have gotten in the habit of sharing a meal. And there was enough on the plate for us to do that. I would recommend this place to anyone. It is right across the street from the Kaiser so it gets busy at lunch. There is little to no parking. But if you are already on foot this place is worth going to.

Came to the café to try it out because I got a job in the area. Great place! Delicious food, great vibe! The service was amazing! Friendly people, big sandwich, big portion, and a great price.

I first noticed this place about a year ago, after stepping out of a Kaiser appointment at the 4950 Sunset building. They’re directly across the street. I made a mental note then to someday give them a try for lunch. Well today was another Kaiser visit and my first visit to New York Café. I read the sidewalk menu advertising their Mini Lunch Plate Specials and decided on the Mini Beef Plate. On entering, I noticed one other patron awaiting his to go order, and my first impression after stepping up to the counter to place my order, was a cold and unconcerned vibe. But after choosing a seat I saw a homeless appearing man in a wheelchair, roll up outside and stare threw the window as if in great anticipation. And maybe some 3 – 4 minutes later, the unconcerned guy behind the counter that took my order noticed him and rushed outside to hand him a bag of chips. I liked that. So after about a 10 – 12 minute wait for my order, my meal was brought to my table by someone from the kitchen staff. It was a very presentable kabob looking type of dish, with a side of rice, salad, pita and hummus. The beef was soooo good and tender, and the rice and salad were prepared to perfection! I immediately began to pull the beef off of its skewer, slice it up, slather the pita with hummus and throw it all together gyro style… with the veggies included of course. My one complaint? The hummus could have been a little more flavorful, but still a great lunch. I highly recommend New York Café for all fellow Kaiser patients, looking for more lunch options in the immediate vicinity other then Burger King, Los Burritos, Subway or even Zankow Chicken a couple of blocks further west. This is the best tasting of the bunch, I’ve tried them all I Shall Return!

Make sure you specify the type of bread you want with your sandwich. This has been the most expensive whole wheat wonder bread type sandwich I have paid for. The guy at the front was quick to ask me if I wanted mustard and mayonnaise on my sandwich, but somehow did not ask me or checked-in with me if wheat was ok so I assumed that the sandwich came in the nice bread with sesame seeds on top. When I got my sandwich, I confronted the guy by saying«I did not know it came in wheat bread.» His response«that is how the club sandwich comes.» That was my polite way of telling him«you did not asked me and yet you assumed I wanted wheat.» I am not sure I will be coming back to this place.

the food is really good, bt the customer service is horrible, Im actually not coming back here again as to how rude they were. There is many other places that are better, avoid this place. If you can just dont be surprised if you encounter rude service.

Had a great lunch here today, the mini gyros plate, and a side of tabbouleh. My husband and I shared it. The gyros were delicious, and there was a small side of some of the best, buttery-tasting hummus I’ve ever had. Everything was fresh & tasty. We’ve eaten here several times before and have never been disappointed.

Great platters and sandwiches. Personally. A big fan of their Soujoukh sandwich but all their food is great. Good spot for a quick lunch or breakfast. Nothing fancy, just great food.

Great Gyro! I loved the Gyro and the Chicken Gyro forgot the name of it. But both were great. The fries eeeeeeeh I’ve had better. The place is small but good enough since lots of people come here for lunch and they just bring it to work. It’s close by Kaiser so you do see lots of workers from there. So it’s better if you pre-order and they will have it ready. It does take time to make. Great food and they do have a mini-special. Price is reasonalble… Street parking… Good luck

I go there for lunch. Great tasting kabobs. Takes them about 15 mins to serve your food when you’re hungry that seems like an eternity. Def recommend it. Small place and it’s usually crowded during lunch.

Stopped in here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. The staff was great, and the food was pretty good. It’s a little small and was vey crowded with staff from the Kaiser office across the street, but the portions were generous and well presented. Some of the food was fantastic(try the beef kabob!) but other aspects were a little bland. I was not fond of their hummus, and I love hummus. Overall, not a bad lunch spot, but I’m not likely to seek this place out again.

The place is tiny inside. But the food is good. The environment is the only reason I’m giving it 3 stars. Smells a little off, but nothing overwhelming. It’s the type of food they cook. The food was very flavorful and the portions are generous. If you are a small eater, two people could certainly share the combo plate. Or you could eat it all like I did. It’s tasty.

This place is ok if you call ahead of time and order. If not, you end up waiting. I work in the area and it is convenient but my colleagues and I went today, wasting most of our lunch time waiting because the owner forgot to print out the tickets for the cooks. Never have had such a lousy experience, might try it again but not anytime soon. The sandwiches are ok, just skip the pizza. The salads are great.

So good! The only thing that sucks is their hours. I work from 9 – 5 and if you want to get something from there from dinner, tough luck. Their chicken sandwich is really good, simple and delicious. I heard the beef sandwich is really good as well, but I haven’t tried it.

I wanted a taste of Mediterranean food that would be within walking distance from Kaiser Sunset, I was happy to walk less than 5 minutes and find New York Café. It had many entrees and sandwiches to choose from, but I was happy to try Keufte as a combo that included fries and a soda, for $ 9.54. I was even happier to find what looked like two 6 inch sandwiches, flattened sesame bread with the keufte meat, and was more than enough to satisfy my taste buds and stomach. Ask for their spicy sauce(red sauce).

Armenian run establishment. I come here for lunch on the days I forget to pack lunch or if I’m craving some Mediterranean food. Always a good idea to call in your order as it will take 15 – 20 minutes to prepare if you order in the restaurant. I’ve had 9⁄10 good experiences here hence the 4 stars. 1 star was knocked off because I am most certain I got food poisoning one time from their pizza. Was in the ER attached to an IV bag for 2 hours. I became weary of this place after that ordeal, then one day I forgot to pack lunch. Hahaha. I mustered up some courage to give New York café another chance and lo and behold, I enjoyed my meal and did not get sick. However, I did order their beef plate which is beef kabobs with basmati rice, hummus, and salad and I will never again order their pizza. I’ve tried their sandwiches and salads, but their mini beef plate is my favorite. $ 7.99 for the plate and it includes a small fountain drink. Great. Now I’m craving this for tomorrow’s lunch!

One of my go to places for lunch(i work at kaiser sunset) –Great selection of hot sandwiches: the steak sandwhich and gyro sandwhich is my favorite –Nelson the owner will take care of you !!! if your in a rush place a to go over on the phone and go there just to pick it up, because sometimes the wait can be 20 – 30 min long during the middle of lunch!
