While I’m not a NYC native, I had more than my fair share of bagels from my time living in the NY Metro area. So my standards of bagel are pretty high. And those expectations are very rarely met in the land of bad bagels(AKA Los Angeles). I hate to sat but despite it’s name, New York Bagel Co did not reach the expectations I had especially with that particular name. My bagel wasn’t terrible, but there were things about it that just weren’t correct. The strawberry cream cheese had whole quarters of strawberries surrounded my a jelly IN the cream cheese. It’s very jarring to be eating a bagel and biting into a ripe strawberry. Once again, not awful but definitely not ANYTHING I saw in NY. And the bagel… it was fine. It was chewy enough but I found it to be a little too dense and compressed. That paired with the general unfavorability of the cream cheese left me with some empty tinfoil and But for me, like donuts and pizza, even a bad bagel is a good bagel. It hit a craving, however shallowly.

I am an east coaster. Bagels were hard and not very good. Tuna salad is ok. Not impressed for prices and what you get.

Been here a few times over the years and recently re-visited. Kind of pricey for two eggs and a bagel(in excess of $ 12). I hate when restaurants charge for cream cheese. Just build it into the price… and make me think I’m getting it for free. I’d rather hit up a «real» deli rather than a «faux» New York style whatever kind of place this is. Food was decent(nothing special about the bagel itself which is apparently made on premises) and service was poor. Is it me or should I be bothered when my waitress does not say two words to me(how is everything or can I get you anything else) after the order is taken? My waitress also seemed just annoyed to be there. I get it… sometimes we all have bad days but when working in service, you gotta tough it out and«pretend»

Amazing! I’m from Arizona and we have hot bagels! I usually crave it after a long night of partying, I was staying out in LA for the weekend and found this gem. Absolutely amazing, specially the NOVA(salmon) sandwich! Ugh to die for! Amazing service! I don’t like the fact that its hidden, so thank you Unilocal:)

Great breakfast — try the egg sandwich on a bagel– yum! Haven’t had a bagel this good since Brooklyn. Relaxing breakfast outside on the patio– will definitely visit again.

This random little dark, divey café hidden in a strip mall was one of the best parts of my trip, and certainly the perfect way to end it. I am used to people tricking me with their New York bagels, and just having to accept the fact that it’s not close, but my everything bagel was delicious. In addition, I created my own little concoction of the jalapeño cream cheese with avocado and bacon layered on top. They prepared it more perfectly than I could have imagined, but up perfectly into four pieces, to make for easy eating. Not going to lie, it was definitely still pretty messy to eat, but I did not mind one bit. The server was really sweet and made sure everything was perfect for us! I will definitely miss this gem.

I came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning and love it. I ordered the chorizo and eggs and it was SO much food — super filling and very delicious. This was made even better by how reasonably priced my meal was. Our waiter was very nice, patient, and attentive. We were here early enough that we had no issue getting seating but it did start to get more busy as it got later in the morning.

Too many flies. The honey vanilla latte is yummy. The lox is not. Bagels and schmears r better than average but giving this place 3 stars for the flies.

We waited 20 minutes here the other day for breakfast, for a party of 5, and all 5 of us desperately wanted bagels. DESPERATELY. 5 hungover Jews are not pleasant people. We ordered a mix of breakfast burritos, breakfast quesadillas, lox platters, and bagels on the side to all share. The food all came out at different times, so the breakfast burritos were pretty much gone before the bagels ever arrived which was sort of weird and annoying. What was more weird and annoying, is that the bagels were awful!!! They were stale and hard. Not chewy, not soft, no give, nothing. The platter came prepared with sliced tomatoes which were a sickly pale greenish pink color and had no flavor. The burritos were good but if you call yourself New York Bagel Co., you should serve some pretty bomb ass bagels. Fail.

This place is a dump. Sitting here. Not sure why. Craving pancakes. Server looks lost. Kitchen is dirty. Service is slow and unattentive. No one is smiling. Lighting is weak. Food is OK… actually, below average. Just not feeling this place

I love this place, BUT. .. I watched as a poor server was berated by a customer for being stupid and not listening. The server looked very distressed and was on the verge of tears as she left the table. What’s disturbing, at least to me, is this is not the first time I’ve seen this sort of treatment from customers at NYB, many of whom seem to live in a warped world of Brentwood entitlement and overarching self-importance. And what was especially angering this time around was a manager eventually showed up and tried to placate the customer. .. rather than read her the riot act or show her the door. You would never allow yourself or your family to be treated this way NYB, but, in essence, you gave this customer the green light to return and continue with her abusive behavior towards your own employees. Verbal abuse from customers is totally unacceptable. It’s demeaning, it’s hurtful, and it’s another form of workplace hostility that should never be tolerated by an employer. I hope you read this New York Bagel.

We have been coming here for several years. It is by far the best bagel and breakfast place in town. The bagels and the cream cheese are amazing. The portions are huge and the egg omelette is delicious… Highly recommended. There is parking as well free for 90 minutes :)

Seriously, their egg dishes are fine, and it is pretty hard to screw up a bagel, but do not order the Matzo Ball soup. Celery was really haphazardly cut(not even chopped) and parts of the chicken used in the soup were inedible. This was not just one order of the soup, this was multiple orders. Gizzards and fat, but no chicken meat. Also contained a really large amount of a sweet root vegetable. This root vegetable constituted about ½ the vegetables in the soup, is not typically used in matzo ball soup, and was generally not tasty. Both soups needed to be seasoned generously with salt to be edible. C’mon, guys.

Best bagels on the Westside :) I always see a celebrity when I come here for some reason… it must be the secret secluded spot the paparazzi wouldn’t expect. Love this place and the owners are so sweet! (Chocolate chip bagel every time)

The one thing I miss about my last trip to NY is, you guessed it, the bagels! But when I came to New York Bagel Co, I decided to give their breakfast menu a try. I ordered scrambled eggs, chocolate chip pancake, hash browns and a side of fruits(It’s an option on the menu where I substituted bacon for hash browns). The eggs were savoringly delicious, seemed like they were slathered in butter. The chocolate chip pancake was just okk and nothing I couldn’t make at home myself. The hash browns were a little different and weren’t that appealing. Overall I say the food was just okay. The service was friendly but the restaurant itself could use a fixer. With all the nicer places in Brentwood, I would imagine this place would like to keep up.

How have I not written a review sooner? I love New York Bagel Co, and it’s my usual go to for a bagel or breakfast in Brentwood. They’ve got friendly staff that has very little turnover(the same guy has been the bagel picker since I was a kid) so the staff knows you, which leads to a great atmosphere. Parking can be harder now with SoulCycle open but I often just park in the back lot without a problem. The breakfast foods are good and the sandwiches are huge. The only time I’ve ever had to wait for a table is on a Sunday morning so I know that when I’m hungry for breakfast I can get in and have it on my plate in about 10 – 15 minutes. My favorite bagels that they make here: Onion, Rosemary, and Rye. All boiled the way they should be and filled with joyous calories. Seriously? Why does anyone go to Noah’s with their crummy bagels and less than friendly staff? I don’t know and I haven’t been there for years… it’s allabout New York Bagel Co. Ooh, and they make a pretty stellar scrambled eggs too.

I come here a lot with my father or my parents if Mom isn’t busy. It’s not a place I would ever elect to eat if alone(Café Vida in Palisades, Farm Shop, Fromin’s – chopped liver and borscht not the breakfasts as their breakfast potatoes are a big messy mush and breakfast is not the best meal there, Le Pain Quotidien, Mayberry in the Palisades). But Dad likes the pancakes and bacon and I’ve been here three times in a week. The bagels and toast with the veggie cream cheese is great. The bagels, which I don’t eat now that I am past 40 except on rare occasions I do a lox plate, are apparently cheap for West LA but they make it up on the cream cheese: 99 cents for a bagel but the side of veggie cream cheese is triple that(it’s also enough for a week if you take it home). I find the décor depressing: it’s like the 1970s dark wood paneling and it’s just sort of a dumpy in the Soul Cycle(former Bandolino Shoes back in the day I think) and fancy jewelers. Looking in the window is almost worth the schlep from the Palisades. The huevos rancheros are so so. The guac is good but they stick a ball of white rice on the plate which is truly bizarre. The pico de gallo is pretty good and my poached eggs were all right But the veggie omelet(even with eggwhites) is GREAT. The veggies are not julienned so that you can barely tell what they are: it’s like a good grilled vegetable plate. I was very impressed. Coffee sucks but that’s true of most diners: Fromin’s has egregious coffee as well. And the metal chairs leave something to be desired. Service is friendly and nice. I can’t believe Dad complains about 26th street from Palisades yet wants to be driven to San Vicente near Federal, at the very Eastern border of Brentwood for his pancakes and bacon but he just loves it here. It’s always about 40 for two after tip as he gets fresh OJ and the omelets are in the traditional 10 or 11 range. He gets a full stack and side of bacon so with coffee, tax, tip… it’s about 18 or 19 a person. For that(minus juice), I can go to Farm Shop and be in a gorgeous cool space with comfy teal velvet banquettes. The crowd is not quite as industry heavy as Farm Shop but NY Bagel strikes me as a convenient place for Brentwood people to get breakfast when they don’t want to be on display: Farm Shop IS a scene and there are a cast of directors, producers, writers who practically live there(including David Mamet) I don’t mind coming here as often as I do but it’s not a breakfast I really look forward to: serviceable and fine but not special.
