I ordered my food with an estimated delivery of 45 – 60 minutes. An hour and 45minutes later cold breakfast was being delivered to me. I called the restaurant twice to check my status. no answer. And what I ordered wasn’t good. FYI the salmon croquet tastes more like a cornmeal croquet. Wouldn’t recommend it.

I came in to get me some lunch and got me some crazy instead. This place provides free entertainment — a mixture of rapping and poetry — while you wait for your food. An old guy with frazzled long hair and a grey jumpsuit shared some rap songs that he wrote for school kids. One of them is about healthy eating… «ABC, healthy eating’s as easy as 123!» «Eat your beets to be a super athlete!» When Mr. Old Guy asks you, «Do you want to hear my poem?», he means it as a rhetorical question. Of course you want to hear his poem. Nothing would please you more. Sometimes he engages the audience by asking you to repeat after him. «I am happy to be alive today, now let’s go outside and play, oh but wait first can you bring out my food tray because I don’t have all day!» Something like that. His raps are pretty catchy. But what REALLY steals the show are his unique world views. Take his love of women. Not domineering women that use their good looks and charm to order their men around. He loves –cooperative– women. According to him, a woman’s greatest gift to a man is ‘cooperation’. Mr. Old Guy, your greatest gift to me would be to make me a sandwich! Chop chop! Before you come to the café, bring a name tag and clearly mark your first name and race of choice. You will get brownie points and Mr. Old Guy will be able to appreciate your presence on a higher level. Also, it’s okay if you don’t clap at the end of his poems. He’s too modest, he will be like, «Why are you clapping? I don’t deserve all that nonsense!» Mr. Old Guy doesn’t bite, but if you need some fresh air, there are 99 cent pupusas next door.

We called the café directly to order delivery. Upon ordering we were informed that some items were not available. The person did not relate our total, however, we ordered two meatloaf dinners(6.00×2) and a chicken dinner. When the food arrived the charge was $ 45.00??? No explanation for the elevation in price? It took about an hour or longer for the food to arrive. It was just ok. The only think I thought was good was the cornbread muffin.

Complete ripoff. Do not buy food from these scammers. We ordered the agave sweetened baked chicken. We were promised two drumsticks and one thigh; they gave us three chicken wings. Avoid these crooks at all costs

The food and drinks were great! My boyfriend and I ordered from Eat24 with a minimum $ 25 purchase and $ 5 delivery. We believe the prices were more expensive due to the restaurant having to pay for their services. The reason I give this two stars is because while the food was indeed amazing, the wait was 2+ hours, we had to keep calling to ask what was the hold up, and in addition they were unaware of my location although it’s only about 5 min away! They also ran out of most of the items we ordered; however, they did offer an alternative option. Once arrived, the driver honked loudly, another person dropped off the food at the door, left and then returned both accusing us of not already paying. I believe the real reason was to ask for a tip which was done in a rude way. The driver yelled from the car, «She needs a tip! She’s a college student!» My boyfriend and I are college students as well but ended up tipping because the person who brought the food to the doorstep had nothing to do with their bad service, as she was very apologetic and I think it was her mother who was the one driving and embarrassing her(she was very shy and further apologized for the driver’s behavior). The reason we didn’t tip before was because we had waited so long(mind you I live pretty close by and the order had been confirmed to be done in 20 min but this was not the case), the food wasn’t very hot, and once again the service wasn’t that great. Since the food was so great, we may try this place again but in the restaurant or by ordering pickup.

The.Worst.Food.Ever. Ordered the food through the equally as terrible Grub Hub. I still don’t understand why it took 128 minutes to heat up Glory Greens and canned string beans. The fish looked like someone nibbled on it before it made its way to my door and they screwed up our drink order. What did look edible wasn’t seasoned. I was trying to support the neighborhood business but they didn’t even offer to replace this mess. The owner said her help didn’t come and she had to do it herself. She might want to hire someone else to do the cooking. Don’t do it!

I have come back here a few times and would like to add that the food is always prepared by very genuine caring people. I believe the food is high-quality and and nutritious but the sides are often overlooked or precooked. The best part is that the proceeds are voluntary $ 12 suggest donation per plate and benefit Jacinto’s programs to aid children(especially minority kids) in feeling good about life, themselves, and providing them with the food ! It’s always a little lonely even if you bring friends but I will continue to support this great cause at least once per week!

We ordered our food at 6:40 via grub hub and my food did not arrive till 8:41. The driver got lost. What deliver don’t know there way around the area they support or have a GPS/smart phone with maps. The food was cold and nasty. Me and my husband was beyond hungry and couldn’t eat it. Save your time and money. In my honest opinion, they need to close down.

Traveling through the ‘hood, I had a hankering for greens. I didn’t wanna drive halfway across the city, so I asked Siri for my nearest soul food restaurant. She gave me this place. My mother would die to know that I had greens from a place that I didn’t know anything about(’cause of the cleaning and cooking process), but hey, I trust God not to lead me any ol’ place(oh, but this was Siri…). I ordered on the phone. I asked re lunch specials(accustomed to that from other soul food restaurants). I was told they didn’t have any, but they did have daily specials. The special o’d’day was turkey meatloaf. Nice. But not what I was in the mood for. He ran down the other meat dishes at my request: honey-baked chicken wings, fried talapia, fried salmon nuggets(How could you do that to salmon!?), and turkey. I opted for the chicken wings with a side of greens and yams. When I arrived, it was ready. While he prepped it, I peeked around. It’s attached to a community room, which reminded me of an indoor lounge where the old fellas come and shoot the breeze while playing dominoes. The kitchen looked clean. The greens were off the hook! I wish I had ordered double-greens. I’m still hankering for ‘em two days later. The yams were made with peaches(instead of sugar?), which gave them an interesting, but good taste. The chicken wings were woefully underseasoned. If not salt, use garlic or rosemary, or something flavorful! Overall, a-ok. But a whole soul food meal at $ 7? I should give them another star…

Ok. So let me start with the fact that I didn’t even eat here so I can’t comment on the food. I went to this restaurant with a group and immediately we were greeted by Jacinto the owner who proceeded to recite his poems and preach about healthy eating, how to be a good woman and keep a man, and the big problem of the dominant strong black woman for 2HOURS!!! Half of us never got our food(which is why I didn’t eat) and finally we just had get up and get out of there. Maybe the food is good but and healthy but the atmosphere is most definitely unappetizing.

this place is one of the best places you can ever eat at. there a patio with a waterfall and party room to rent out and have small events, turntables and afro-centric vibe. we really enjoy this place, the food is so delicious nutritious. its a non profit organization making the community aware of eating more healthier without paying high prices for good food. You pay with your taste buds, what you can afford, My favorite is the salmon nuggets with lemon juice and extra hot sauce, self served. wow, as my friend told me, these are to die for, lol and they got alot on their menu, a must visit located in the beautiful neighborhood of south central across from jacks.

Turkey Burgers are the theme here at the Natural soul Food Non-Profit Café. The turkey burgers are on wheat with veggies; cooked to a delicate taste. They are usually joined by «soul fries»(cooked with skin). Up next, turkey tacos: they come with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and superb turkey meat. The café features home-made teas, punches, and Kangen water. The dinning area is very cultural and serene. Chess sets are set up for those wanting to get their game on. Hacinto Rhines Jr., founder, recites poetry from memory upon request from his book, «Phases of the Sun Dial.» He believes in nutrition and creative solutions to comunity woes. The menu includes: Smoked turkey, eggs and grits, Granola Fruitula, Salmon hash, ttuna or salmon croquettes and more on the breakfast side; Ground turkey burgers, veggie burgers, crab cakes, Tilapia Fillet Chowder, raw veggie tossed salads, Mush Blush Valid Potato Salad, Agave Sweetened Baked Chicken, Rainbow Trout Fillets, Ground Turkey Meatloaf and more for lunch and dinner. The biggest thing about this café there are no prices; customers pay based on appreciation. Natural Soul Food Non-Profit Café is a non-profit organization geared toward helping the community with health, nutrition and creative support. The cook and founder often visit schools and talk to kids about nutrition and creativity. Oh, there’s also the Human Rainbow Patio featuring a water fountain and TVs. No matter what the café offers the turkey burger are key to any visit and the baked chicken wings. The place is heavenly.

I went here with my husband when we were dating. He suggested that we visit the location via his co-workers request. It was weird for me to see a non-profit restaurant. The environment was actually kinda cool. There was a Black Panther guy playing chess with the cook, but the cook did not hesitate to provide us with excellent customer service(I used to live in Berkeley… so it doesn’t get any better than this). From reading the reviews, I believe that it’s totally awesome what the owner is doing for the community! Anyway, we tried a chicken entry with a delicious honey sauce. It was amazing! I’m not a fan of hush puppies, but they did sell them here too. They didn’t taste bad, but their just not my thing. I haven’t gone back since, but I do want to go back soon. If you are ever near the area or want a chill place to hang out, I suggest you visit this location. It’s so artsy and so inviting.

Four stars for the food plus one more star for the experience. I had the turkey meatloaf dinner with sides of greens, blackeye peas, and okra. This was a huge pile of food that could barely finish. Wash it down with strawberry agave limeade and a couple poems and I think it was a great deal for 10 bucks.(lunch is 6). Jacinto says they have a permit for after-hours jazz, so keep an eye out for that!

Their food is fantastic. I found the nectart of the Gods, it’s their Honey Lemonade. Run by an interesting couple. I think the mom does all the cooking. She seemed very quiet and shy, but damn can mamma cook! A sweet lady all in all. I believe the hubby and son handle the business side, He’ll read you some far out poetry and tell you about his family and the food education he proivdes to inner city youth. They’re very grateful to customers but a little too overzealous and don’t seem to gauge when folks just want to eat or have a private conversation very well. Had a turkey sandwich with the best red cabbage-carrot-raisin coleslaw ever and Note, I am not a fan of coleslaw, or raisins but damn, this was good. Food for three was about $ 14. I suggest you order to-go and then picnic at the rose garden or the Natural History Museum steps blocks away.

As of Tuesday night reinstated my fear of eating at establishments having only one Unilocal reviewe. I was meeting a friend for dinner and found this place near where she lives. The environment of the place was interesting, homey and unique. Definitely ghetto but enjoyable. We ordered, and everything was going great. When the food came I was honestly scared. My chicken smelled like something I would expect to smell in my grandma’s backyard, associated with her dog. I am not sure exactly what happened, but my guess has something to do with too much oil and season salt. The chicken was thoroughly cooked and tasted great, however I was continuously fearful that I was going to be sick from it at any moment(didn’t get sick). I had a bite of my friend’s cornbread, It was difficult to cut, even with the knife. …Then an old black man came out, introduced as the owner. He proceeded to recite his poetry, three poems lasting a total of 20 minutes, all about slavery or the ghetto or the whites oppressing the blacks. The only way we got him to stop was by leaving, and that wasn’t so easy upon his insistence that we listen to one more. After we paid and finally escaped, my friends and I were chatting outside when the cook, waiter and yes the owner each came out at different times to personally thank us for coming and told us to be sure to tell friends. This entry is doing just that.

How is this place NOT rated yet! Unilocalers, you are sleeping on a dope place to eat! Anyway, I came here with my boy awhile back after going to the science museum. I had read about it in my Greenopia 2nd edition. The staff here is caring, dedicated, and helpful. The menu options are indeed pleasing to the taste buds. The menu has the suggested prices next to the food, but don’t let that stop you from giving a bit more. We ordered the Soul Fries, Honey Baked Chicken, and Rice Milk Honey Strawberry Blueberry Smooth As Silk Shake. WEWERESTUFFED! The owner is truly a man on a mission to help his community. He is full of knowledge and some nice wisdom. Make sure to get the tour of the whole place if you go. I will def. be back and bring a lot of folks with me. FYI you can view the menu on their site:
