i’d pick up some frogs here. same as other seafood in chinatown… lousy selection. fish on ice looks bad. Chinatown NY has much larger selection, and even so its small. Only dungies, lobster, clams, tilapia, catfish. From lowest to highest quality(1 – 10 scale) 1) same quality as 99 market 2) for higher quality go Mitsuwa 3) Higher Whole Foods/SM Seafood 4) Higher DT Fish Markets ~ 4.5) Seafood port in San Pedro 20) catch it yourself.

When I was little I freaked out walking into this place. I saw the frogs and the turtles and thought this was totally a pet store. When I saw my mom load up a box of live lobsters and crabs… my 9 year old heart sank and we immediately bought a handful of frogs and turtles… and released them into a local body of water(that they were able to survive in). Fast forward many years later and I’m actually a little fond of this place. The fish is sold at wholesale prices… easily the cheapest place to get the freshest live lobsters and seafood in town. So maybe you don’t know where some of it comes from, but hey, you can’t win them all. And if lobster will be sold to me at $ 8/pound…I think it’s okay to turn the other cheek once in a while. You still can’t get me to eat the turtles though…

Good local fish market. Went to get some live lobsters and crabs for a dinner party. They had both 1 ½ lb size lobsters and the huge 4 pounders. They were about $ 8/lb. Pretty good deal for live shellfish. They also placed blocks of ice in the bag to keep it cool. It’s Chinatown, I paid with cash, I doubt they take credit card. The place is pretty small but had what I needed. I recommend bringing a cooler if you don’t want to ruin your car trunk.

Finally, we found the place. As I said a few reviews ago, my brother sent me here, as I was excited because he said they had live turtles. Not that I know any recipes with turtle in them, but… What I hadn’t expected was the live frogs. I mean, I was, but I didn’t expect them to be so BIG! They were huge! Gigantic! I also don’t know much about frog legs, but they would be great! Turtles are apparently now out of season, they won’t have them back until September. They was a tank with really big lobsters in it(I’m coming for ya!) for $ 10.50/lb. and the fish counter looked good as well. Nam Hoa is a step above the rest, plus they have live, fresh, fish and amphibians. Wowee!
