Love this little spot! The setting is nothing fancy but the sushi is very fresh and tasty! I specifically love the moonlight specials which are rolls without rice. They are wrapped in cucumber and filled with fish of your choice and then drenched in this really delicious peanut sauce. I go to this place just for these rolls! The service is great great here. They have a lot of employees to tend to your needs or a rush of patrons. I haven’t had a bad experience here yet and I’ve been coming here for years. Enjoy!

My favorite neighborhood sushi joint, hands down. Greeted by Nagao himself, behind the sushi bar, we love sitting by him and ordering rolls one by one as we savor what we’ve just ordered! Some favorites: Sunshine, Tuna in Soy wrapper, Baked Lobster, Spider rolls Oh also, their broiled yellowtail collar(a hot side dish) is über amazing. Also love their tuna and salmon sushi! Great quality and amazing clean flavor. The place is small, cozy, clean, and is frequented by many locals who you know return weekly and sometimes daily basis! We’ve been known to go a couple of times a week! Service is attentive and it’s just plain great!

The Nagao sushi is a fine sushi in brentwood/la We ordered the mushroom salad and was delicious, few sushi and sashimi! The quality is good, service like an average sushi places. They have no rice sushi rolls on their menu! Plenty of parking around. Price average!

Quaint sushi shop with unique flavor. This is such a gem! I only knew about it through a friend who lives in the area. It’s in a plaza that gives off major Socal vibe. We walked in on a Wednesday evening without a reservation and got seated right away. The moonlight roll was so good! Super fresh, light, and citrusy. The salmon skin salad was delicious and crispy. Our mix plate of sushi was fresh. Overall a great spot for both authentic sushi and Japanese food with a Californian twist.

4 star rating is shocking. Perhaps one of the worst teriyaki beefs, tuna rolls, salads I have had in a very long time. Felt like I was eating to get full without any enjoyment.

This place is really good. Old style sushi chefs at sushi bar cater to a very loyal clientele. Really fresh ingredients. Sampled a few rolls without rice and awesome. Also had a cooked fish appetizer with sweet sauce. Box sushi was very filling and creative. Enjoyed the social aspect at the sushi bar –friendly people all regulars. Had a hot sake and some miso soup too Service on point and nice touch cut orange for dessert. Little pricey but expected for what we got.

Solid food and solid location for when i am staying around the corner in the Palisades. The parking situation is not the greatest around here. Ordering this food is not necessarily a good idea. Something about eating inside this restaurant that causes the food to taste better. Must be a psychological thing. The cajun dish was ok. Was not blown away by it. Spicy tuna barely has any spice which means tons of wasabi in my soy sauce. The unagi bowl is rather tasty. Of course, there is ample eel sauce which makes practically anything taste better. Good spot to get sushi at in this area for the price.

Sushi Nagao is a locals sushi joint next door to the Brentwood Country Mart. Their sushi is fresh, unique and a decent price point. Nagao is the head chef and remembers his repeat customers. I don’t normally address other people’s experiences, but that Nine S’s review of Nagao’s sushi is ridiculous. He may not like the sushi, but he must have nothing better to do than write a monologue like the world is coming to an end because of Nagao’s sushi. Nagao’s sushi offers a different experience. No, it’s not a stuffy Katsuya, but it isn’t a Sushi Stop either. It’s a casual, family sushi spot. Just relax and grab a moonlight roll and enjoy the free orange at the end of it.

Cajun sashimi platter of the albacore and tuna is my absolute favorite here! That’s all I wanted to say.

The prices are ridiculous for such a small amount of food mainly stuffed with imitation crab meat. It’s around $ 10 – 11 for«rolls» literally only 4 pieces.(Not kidding you) This place is overpriced and if you plan on getting a dish that doesn’t include fish, be prepared to pay extra for sad looking rice. The seating arrangements are a bit awkward and close for comfort as the whole restaurant is basically one big hallway. I will never be back, this place is more expensive than Sugarfish with a fraction of it’s quality.

So many mixed feelings about Nagao. Came here primarily because my friends were looking for relatively cheap sushi after a long day at the beach. I saw that Nagao’s rolls were about $ 7 – 10 per roll, which is on the cheaper side, so I suggested to go there. Yes, rolls are«cheap,» but each roll has about 4 pieces. Granted, these pieces are pretty big, but still, it took me two rolls to get full, which came out to about $ 20 per person. Quality of the sushi was undoubtedly quite fresh, though. Their roll descriptions get a bit confusing, though. Spicy Roll(with tuna): …the what roll? no spice whatsoever. Not even a tiny kick. Moonlight #2: No rice roll. Great salmon, tiny piece of shrimp. I found it weird that they put carrots in the roll… and waaay too much imitation crab.

As you will notice with my Unilocal track record, I rarely give HORRIBLE ratings, unless truly justified… I feel bad, to be so truthfully negative. Not authentic sushi. DONOTWASTEYOURMONIES!!! WARNING: Should be ZEROSTARS, no joke!!! They are lucky for the minimum 1 star floor rating. NOT appropriate for the sushi eaters with a refined palette, nor high standards. Toro sushi($ 10) & halibut sushi($ 6) are tasteless, rough, disappointing, very LOWGRADE and YUCK-BUTT! Looks fresh in picture, but tastes disgustingly bland. Underwhelming. Tastes like imitation sushi, yet disguised and trying to look like the real thing. The sushi standards are set very low here, if any. King crab cut roll(real crab meat only) tasted so FROZEN and tough($ 11 for 4 pieces)! Soooo yuck-butt again! Every single dish was off, and unauthentic in taste? What the SHEEEESH? Just AWFUL sushi, horrible quality, stale fish, not fresh, not tasty… the sushi tastes rubbery, bland, POORGRADE, tough to chew and difficult to swallow. We had to send the rubbery scallop dish back($ 10) — was definitely made from older, frozen scallops. I noticed their passive aggressive attitude afterwards. How can they serve that cheap crap??? Unbelievable… given their higher price point? Terrible, yet surprisingly pricey for BAD quality sushi, especially in a great Brentwood location. I should have listened to all the warning signs from the 1 star ratings. It was the first, last, and only time going there ever again! Cannot believe the 4 star overall rating — must be from Unilocalers whom do not have a sophisticated sushi palette or understand authentic, high quality sushi and fish… We couldn’t wait to get our check and run out of there. They didn’t even give us our orange slices for dessert, but they must of sensed we wanted out, like a bat out of(sushi) HELL!!! Or they were offended by our return of their inedible scallop dish. Almost all rolls have imitation crab inside, so yuck-butt and substandard. I am doing you a favor: Save your time, effort, and monies! Honestly; Whole Foods, Ralph’s, and Trader Joe’s sells much tastier pre-made packaged sushi. As Taylor Swift sang: «We are NEVEREVER, NEVEREVER» going back there!!! NEVEREVER. not in a million years. The worst quality, imitation sushi fish EVER, SERIOUSLY.

Nagao has been my go-to sushi spot since I was in high school! My favorite thing to order is the White Tuna Salad. It is huge! and filled with delicious veggies and raw tuna, with a delicious dressing. And its cheap! I also love to order one of the huge rolls, they are filled to the rim with ingredients, but the flavors are great. Everyone is super nice, too!

I revisited Nagao in 2015. The quality remains excellent. Oddly, this place used to get jam packed, so I always feared the long lines and wait here, but I visit this at 12pm noon on a weekday, during traditional lunch hours and it was very easy to get table(or sushi bar) seating, and the service as fast and attentive. I always get the Moonlight Roll. I usually opt out of #1 because I don’t like scallops. So, I usually get #2 and #3 both, because I keep forgetting the one I like best. I now think I like the Moonlight Roll with the Salmon as my favorite, but they’re both excellent. When I first went here and tried this, a friend took me and my reaction to the Moonlight Roll was… «This tastes like Summer» — which describes the relaxed cool feeling and joyful sensation of this unique sushi roll with no rice, wrapped in a cool thin cucumber outer roll along with asparagus, avacado, crab, and fish with a light sauce(I think it’s ponzu), where no soy sauce is needed. I could eat this alone all day, and it’s their signature dish in my opinion as the«must try» for all who visit. The other sushi is good, including the Soft Shell Crab roll, which is amongst the best of that variety I’ve had. The service here is friendly. Parking can be easy, there’s a shared validated parking lot in the back, but savvy travelers may know to park a few blocks out into the residential areas where there’s wide streets with parallel parking, but it’s free and easy to access. Just watch out for street parking signs to the time limits, street cleaning and/or any other restrictions.

Not my favorite. So I have been really craving GOOD sushi and based on the star rating and from what I’ve heard, this place was amazing so we decided to give it a try for dinner. When we arrived, the sushi chefs were very attentive and greeted us right away and the server seated us right away as well. We were seated at a table that was placed in a really awkward area in the corner of the restaurant but close to the sushi bar. The service was ok. The servers seemed to just be there to do their jobs and nothing more or less. My table was still dirty and I asked the server if she could bring a towel to wipe it down. She brought me a paper towel and sat it down as if I were to wipe it myself. The menu was pretty self explanatory and nothing special. If you’re looking for REAL sushi, this is not the place. I ordered the baked salmon roll and the eel avocado roll. The Rolls are WAY too big. Once you take a bite, everything falls out. My rolls had a major overload of random vegetables. The salmon in the baked salmon roll was dry, bland, and overcooked. We also ordered an order of edamame served cold. The edamame was OK… nothing special. Also, there was no music playing nor did they have a television so you’re just stuck there listening to other customer’s conversations that may or may not be interesting to hear. Overall, I gave 2 stars for the sushi chefs welcoming us when we walked in and thanking us when we left. I hope this review helps you decide on where to have a delicious sushi experience! :)

This has become my favorite sushi spot in LA! They have some of the freshest sushi I’ve found, and great prices too! It’s a small spot so it gets crowded quick during busy hours, but it’s totally worth the wait. They have street parking or you can park in the Brentwood town center behind it. Now the sushi– it’s SO fresh and so good. Nagao is the sushi chef and is there most of the time serving up sushi. They also offer no rice rolls, that they roll with very thinly sliced cucumbers– these are my favorites. They offer a menu for those or you can pick a roll and ask for it without rice, it’s like a super strict gluten free and low carb sushi roll. I love them. It’s somewhere you have to try everything is great on the menu and the place is really wonderful, the staff is so friendly and helpful. As I said I’ve been to sugar fish, katsuya, midori, Nobu and a million other sushi spots both small and large, cheap and expensive etc etc — Nagao beats them all they are the best sushi place I’ve had in LA by far!

I adore the casual neighborhood charm of this tiny sushi bar. It’s definitely a local’s spot. I love sitting at the sushi bar with Nagao-san. He’s seemingly cantankerous, but he’s not. The moonlight rolls are a must: cucumber-wrapped rolls, fresh and light. Couple that with an Asahi and some hot sake, and you’ve got a great night!
