Mr. An’s restaurant looked promising at first when I looked at the menu and some of the previous reviews, but I have to honestly say that it is far from being the best chicken in Koreatown. I’ve chicken from various restaurants scattered throughout Koreatown and Mr. An’s seems to fall short in many areas. I placed one order of the family special(think whole chicken from Von’s Chicken from the Galleria), and I was told that it would take no longer than fifteen minutes. I was okay with this, and waited until I noticed twenty minutes passed and they weren’t calling my designated number. I could tell it wasn’t because they were taking care of other people’s orders since no one actually went over to order while browsing the various eatery in the food court. I waited a bit longer and finally my order was done after an alarming thirty five minutes or so. I was obviously a bit disappointed since they took much longer than most restaurants take, even if they make it from scratch. I decided to take it home and after about a good three minute walk back, I opened the medium-sized box. The chicken smelled nice and still felt hot to the touch. It all looked well worth the wait until I took a bite out of a few chicken. Maybe I was just unlucky or they had been rushing my order because the chicken tasted nowhere near spectacular. It just tasted very bland and while I was happy with the amount of meat I was given, I felt like I needed to take out my own condiments to satisfy myself. For the price, I’d say Mr. An’s chicken is on the more expensive side, similar to and possibly more expensive than VON’s chicken. I looked forward to eating all the chicken I had gotten(approximately 14 – 16 moderately sized pieces) and I didn’t even finish and had thrown away a good amount after losing my appetite. I can certainly say that I will take the extra 5 – 10 minutes of walking to go to a better chicken eatery than Mr. An’s restaurant down at the Plaza food court.

I came across it the same week that I’d been craving KFC. In this case, I meant Korean-style fried chicken, not the Colonel’s eleven herbs and spices bucket of heart congestion, as much of a guilty pleasure that can be. Ponying up $ 9.99 for a small mountain of chicken, rice, soup, and salad really did not sound like a bad deal at all. And it wasn’t! The exterior of the chicken was crisp and the sauce was just the right combination of sweet and savory. Based on unfortunate experiences with a previous attempt at satisfying my craving, I was expecting to only get scraps of meat hanging onto the bone, so imagine my surprise when I bit into my first piece and tore away to reveal and moist and good-sized amount of white meat inside. Delicious. There is only one downside to this place, and to be honest it’s not THAT bad: the wait time. I wouldn’t recommend ordering from here if you’re in any sort of hurry, because the wait time was pretty long. I didn’t time it, but my friends were already half done with their lunches by the time my number was called. HOWEVER, considering how this stuff is probably made when you order it, I’d say it is worth the wait.

It’s inside the food court. Lots of food for the price. My kids love the noodles since it’s not spicy N cooked just right

Best chicken in town? nah… I wanted some meat and Mr. An caught my eyes. It used to be a ramen shop but I guess it didn’t do so well, which was not a surprise. Since it’s a Korean-owned business, I expected something along the line of Kyochon Chicken and Spicy BBQ Chicken. Mr. An did not deliver anything mind-blowing. Combo 1 $ 9.99 was a bowl of white rice, a bowl of spicy seafood soup(which go well with the rice) and the main highlight: Korean style BBQ chicken. The chicken was hot on arrival. The marination was adequate. The chicken was tender but not very meaty. I was surprised by the ratio of chicken meat to the glazed crust. Also, it took at least 15 minutes for me to get my meal. I’m guessing they were making it from scratch? It was inconvenient since I came with a group of friends and they have all gotten their meals within 10 minutes. By the time my meal came, they were almost done with their food. This is worth mentioning because most likely you came to a food plaza to eat because you and your friends want options or craving for different types of cuisine. Considering most entrée offered at Ktown Plaza ranged from $ 6.99 and up, Mr. An’s combo is on the higher end of the price tag. In summary, Mr. An offers a decent course of glazed chicken, but good luck. Can Mr. An survive after 2 previous failed attempts by the previous owners to make a permanent home in this corner of a competitive food court? Only time can tell.

Decent I wish this place was better. the koreans have a way of making chicken better than americans such as kyochon and VONS chicken. If you drive around ktown you will see a whole bunch of chicken eateries. This place is decent but thats about it. I wish it was better because its a mom and pop place. The chicken was sorta greasy. and the amount of chicken you get is sorta small. I will give this place another chance soon.

If you can wait the 15 minute cook time this place is definitely worth a visit. $ 9.99 combo is a pretty good deal for what you get. Combo includes a spicy seafood soup, rice, salad of some sort, and a large portion of chicken.
