super dank and cheap. go early in the day before they sell out of the best ones.

Great donuts but they never have anything ready even an hour or two hours after they open! Every time I go in there they say things like«no cinnamon rolls until 9AM.» What do you do if your kid love cinnamon rolls and wants donuts first thing in the morning? This morning was the last straw. I went in and there was no glazed donuts no bars nothing ready except what looks like croissants and old old-fashioneds and this was an hour after they opened! so, not wanting to upset my kids, I hopped over to Winchells on California Street and they had a full selection of everything I wanted and there was nothing better than seeing my kids and my wife happy face with all their favorite donuts. Come on guys you have a great product just get your act together and have things ready by the time you open not two and three hours later

Their donuts were so good. The chocolate frosted donuts have a blackish brown color to them that looks like dark chocolate and tastes like chocolate unlike other donut shops with their light brown coating that tastes like sugar with a hint of chocolate. They look and taste higher quality. When I see chocolate frosted donuts with that dark brown color I already know they’re from here. But there was one time that I was eating one of their donuts and realized I had bitten into a hair. And I looked at the donut and it was a long hair coming out of the donut, something like Elsa’s but brown instead of white. It might have been a 1% chance of that happening but it happened to me and it sucked and I’ll never look at Monterey donuts with the same innocence of quickly stuffing my mouth with as much donut as I can, again.

HANDSDOWNBESTDONUTSINTHENEIGHBORHOOD! I have been going to Monterey Donuts since 1997 and not once have I been disappointed. I have had my share of donuts from mom and pop shop to gourmet fancy fancy stuff and Monterey Donuts stays #1 in my heart. Plus, you can’t beat going on a Sunday evening after a solid BBQ to the pleasant owner giving you a free 2 – 3 donuts. Definitely a must try!

Regarding the picture asking to support local businesses not chain stores… Well, you offered doughnuts and pastries that weren’t exactly the same as every single other doughnut store out there, perhaps you would differentiate yourself from those chainstores and drum up some more business as a result. The ball is in your court.

Ok, my family and I decided to do a taste test on apple fritters and chocolate glazed donuts. We chose to compare Monterey Donuts and Royal Donut in Pasadena. The score was unanimous! Everyone voted 100% for Monterey Donuts! :)) Their donuts were the most flavorful and didn’t have an oily taste like the Royal Donut version.

This place is popular for their Apple Fritters. I’ve been coming here off and on for over 15 years. Worth the visit.

You can go over to Highland Park to Donut Friend with all the poseurs or you can come here a find out what true old school donut genius looks and tastes like. I go for the sugar twist or a little disc of unbridled magnificence simply known as the«powdered donut.» Shop comes complete with Pleasant Cambodian owner, donut-themed school kid art, lottery tickets, and a clientele who consider scratchers a legitimate hobby and a donut and a cup of coffee an honorable breakfast. Respect.

Every time Ive stopped in for a treat this shop has only about half of its trays filled and I cant tell if they are just always sold out or if they are just trying to be as cost efficient as possible. Given the few times Ive tried to come in I have a feeling it is the latter. When I have tried their donuts they have been slightly stale and cold. I read that you can order your preferred selection 24 hrs in advance if you call but personally I would still be worried about the freshness. What attracts me to a donut shop are the amount of fresh selections but this place just does not hold those qualities.

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a MILLION times. Monterey Donuts are the best in Los Angeles. You can keep your Krispie Kremes and Cronuts. These are the bomb, old school, freshest and most delicious donuts around. I love the glazed, especially warm out of the oven. They also make delicious, dense and perfectly glazed old fashioned. Chocolate twist? Best I’ve ever had. The lady who owns the shop is a riot and she’s always working her butt off. They put a lot of love in their donuts at Monterey Donuts. If you are ever on the east side, check it out. PS: Good coffee too and scratchers and lottery tickets sold here.

This donuttery is super close to my house and I’m relieved the giant, fluffy donuts are not incredible. The problem is their weird bad-grease aftertaste, like perhaps the grease hasn’t been changed in a while. The donuts are fresh and despite the aftertaste, go down delicious and there is a wide selection. This place is also a lottery ticket hotbed of action.

I looooove donuts. I miss these mom and pop places while in the east coast. This place has very big and«healthy» donuts. Why healthy? Because their donuts are not very oily and they don’t leave a oil taste after having one which makes me feel like I am eating a somewhat healthy donut lol. They are around a dollar+ each depending on what you get and their size definitely makes you feel like you are getting more for your buck.

Hands down the best mom & pop donut shop there is. Their donuts are always fresh & fluffy. IMO, their classic glazed donut is way better than Krispy Kreme’s; not too overly sweet. Prices are very affordable too. Donut holes are only 10 cents each. You can count me in!!! They also have juice, smoothies, tea and coffee. The only downside I have about this place is that they don’t serve boba. Regardless though, the quality of their donuts overcome any con! BTW: Cash ONLY!

The first photo on this ad says to support local business. I would be happy to do that at any establishment that was locally or family owned if they provided good customer service. Unfortunately, the lady they hired to work the counter early in the morning is a rude and unpleasant person and the last person you want to meet early in the morning when you’re on your way to work. Two stars instead of one because the donuts themselves aren’t really that bad despite the incredibly limited selection of very standard donuts in the morning if you don’t order the ones you want 24 hours in advance.

An unexpectedly nice find. I was hungry for a donut and saw the donuts sign off Monterey Road & Via Marisol The shop is in a small shopping center where Fresco Market is located. Parking is easy, and no matter where you park, the walk won’t be far. They do a steady business, but you won’t wait long. Everyone in there seems to be a regular and everyone is in a good mood, especially the staff. The people who work there are the best! So friendly, just like seeing an old friend. That’s what I liked most about that place. If you’re a lottery player or a scratch card player, they totally have you hooked up. I’ve never seen so many. See my pic. If you live in the area, buy from them. I’d love to see a business like this get the share of the Super Lotto winnings! The donuts are pretty good. They aren’t the very best, but they are plenty good(I give the donuts four stars), and they are generously sized, especially the filled donuts… AND they are very reasonably priced. A half dozen donuts is only $ 4.25, and a dozen donuts are only $ 8.00. That’s the best price I’ve found in all of the Los Angeles area. They also have bagels, muffins, croissants, and a variety of coffee drinks. See my pic of the menu. They are open every day of the year except Christmas and New Year’s. I am a fan, and I’ll be a regular when I’m in the area.

Yep, I get the hype. This place is pretty fantastic, affordable, and Lee(the owner) is such a delight! I picked out a dozen donuts as a gift and to my surprise it was only $ 8! I took the box back to my car and then ran back inside because I couldn’t leave without having one of my very own. The crumb donut I had was even better than it looked and it looked pretty damn impressive. I am most definitely a fan.

Convenient location with store front parking. Small place packed full of the biggest donuts and treats I have ever seen! I got a cinnamon crumb yeast donut and meant to get a cake donut. It was huge and very good, not too sweet. Drinks and coffee. They have lottery tickets of several kinds. I am not from Cali and didn’t even know they had lottery here. Very nice guy working there, bookmarked some places on Unilocal for me to try! This place should be called«Home of the World’s Largest Donuts»!

I lived really close to Monterey Donuts and had stopped in a couple times to get donuts. It never amazed me, so I was really surprised to hear from a consultant that every time he is in the area, he stops there for donuts. He said they have the best donuts. Then I happened to look at all its Unilocal reviews and in particular, how great the fritters and buttermilk donuts are. So I headed over there the other morning to try it again. And was disappointed. Normally I get the chocolate cake-type with sprinkles or nuts, but since everyone raved about the apple fritters, I chose one of those. On the plus side, since this is a small, mom-and-pop place, it was cheap – only $ 1.35 for a large fritter. But it didn’t taste spectacular, nor even really fresh, like it had just been made. In fact, it tasted a little dry. I don’t know if I came on an off day but I probably won’t go out of my way again to find out. If I wanted donuts, I’d rather patronize this shop than a chain since it’s a locally owned business, but it’s not way better than what I’ve gotten at Winchell’s or Yum Yum.
