Devastated to see Ming Yuan closed. Does anybody know if they will reopen in a new location?

Bummed they are closed. If you knew what to order, the food was on point. If you stayed away from the gwai lo options it was delicious. Sucks that it didn’t meet the Orange and Kung Pao chicken expectations of the Wacky Wok and Panda Express fans that had negative things to say about it.

It’s sad to hear and see that corporate Bristol Farms has bought out mom and pop Ming Yuan. Yes this place may not be up to par with other big Chinese restaurants like Mayflower and ABC(in the Bay Area where I’m from), but the amount of food you get and its quality at the price you pay is amazing. Besides, it’s not a restaurant. They close on May 30, 2015. Sad that I haven’t been able to visit this place more often than I couldn’t. Luckily I came 2 days before perma-close. Enjoy Ming Yuan while you can, everybody. Truly a Westchester gem.

Not sure why this place has such bad reviews. Maybe its not gourmet and maybe some items that I haven’t tried, suck, but so far I have had good food and the couple that owns/works there are very nice. Plus what other option is there really for Chinese food in Playa?

I tried my usual here, kung pao chicken, which was the worst i have had in maybe 50 different restaurants over the years. The sauce was literally hot sauce out of a bottle. An easy dish to make as i used to cook it myself years ago but now have gotten lazy. I will definitely not be back. Mostly a takeout plus with little or zero atmosphere. I ate here twice and will revisit in a couple of weeks.

The WORSTEVER! I WAS almost PHYSICALLYASSULTED! I wouldn’t feed pigs with this food. The quality is way below the norm. The style, «American-Chinese»(if you know what I mean) is way off base. I’ve ordered Orange Chicken, Soft Noodles, and rise. Well, rise is rise, how can you mess that up, right?!)) The noodles are from the lowest grade of ingredients. It wasn’t a noodle, but some kind of a by-product. Now, the Orange Chicken is a drop of chicken that is heavily breaded and the sause is horrible. I’ve only tasted one noodle, one chicken(if you can call it a chicken), and a little rise. Once I said that I don’t like the food, I asked for my money back. The lady at the counter began to tell me that if she would give money back to everyone, the would close the business. So, I said that maybe better food would solve the problem, and if I won’t get a refund, I’ll write an honest review. HEREISTHEKICKER, literally… the Chief(I think the owner) rushes out from the kitchen and yells at me. When I brought the plate(Paper Plate) back to the counter, it snapped(ITWASANACCIDENT) and the food ended up on the counter. At this point the Kung Fu Master is chasing me out of the store and calling me all kinds of things. For the record I’ve never, NEVER asked for a refund at food places. STAYAWAY!

I like the food here-tasty dishes and decent prices. The only reason I don’t give them more stars is that they don’t deliver. I thought all chinese restaurants delivered?

The reviews for this primarily take out restaurant are absolutely misleading! We have been dining at Ming Yuan for 2 decades and the food is terrific! Instead of ordering everyone’s generic wonton and noodles, step up to their truly authentic and health conscience stir fry meat and vegetable dishes. Their Westlake soup is fantastic and if they’re offering any dishes outside the main menu, go for it… it will be as authentic as any fancy sit-down Chinese restaurant on the westside!

No. Just no. It’s convenient and even though Chinese food is rare in this part of town, it just isn’t worth insulting your taste buds. I had the worst pork-fried rice and, I don’t know how this is possible, even worse moo shu pork. I was hoping the rice wasn’t going to come from the warming dish at the front counter, where it was sitting all day, but apparently it did. The addition of some peas, bbq pork and scrambled egg didn’t make the over-cooked rice any fresher or more attractive. The moo shu just had the worst flavoring that I’ve ever tasted in a ‘moo shu anything’ — after half of one filled pancake I threw it all away. Bleh!

This place is good because it is cheap and quick. Unfortunately, it is not one of those hidden gems of cheap food. It’s cheap and quick because a microwave doesnt take that much time or energy to run.

i wish i could give this place negative stars as i sit here suffering from food poisoning courtesy of this place. I thought it was over-priced for what little amount of food I got but that was a blessing in disguise. Not really though as I am still feverish and vomiting. AVOIDATALLCOSTS!!!

Ming Yuan Restaurant is located at the corner of Lincoln and 85th, right next door to Bristol Farms. It’s a tiny, hole in the wall, Chinese restaurant. I stopped in here the other day for an early dinner as I was craving Chinese but had no desire to drive anywhere aka braving the LA rush hour traffic. Walk in and I have the house to myself. I opt for a combo that comes with an egg roll, two fried won tons, hot & sour soup and one entrée. I went with the Hunan Beef dish. Years ago, I lost most of my sour taste buds(don’t know how) but I could definitely taste the sour in the hot & sour soup served here. I don’t know what was in the fried won tons as it was a mushy consistency and a flavor that I couldn’t make out. The egg roll was okay. The Hunan Beef dish came with a lot of veggies, which I like however, some of the green peppers were still on the raw side. Lots of onions, which I love though the dish could have used more bamboo shoots. Not a whole lot of beef either. The fried rice that comes withe meal seemed to be old and heated up. My taste buds weren’t satisfied as I didn’t like the food here. However, don’t go by my recommendation and try it for yourself. I’ve been spoiled by having been to China, and experienced authentic Chinese cuisine.

I would really like to give this restaurant a nice review since the counter lady was so polite. It is the only Chinese restaurant in the area and could really do a great business if the food would make customers come back on a regular basis. But based upon what we experienced, just cannot give them praise. My son attends Otis and was craving Chinese food so we gave the place a try. The food was just not what it should have been. The Hot and Sour soup was too hot and spicy to the nth degree. The entrees lacked meat, taste, and quality. The rice, while large in quantity, seemed dry and aged. Would suggest Ming Yuan become more focused on taste, equity of meat and veggies, plus freshness. Sorry, but unless it improves, our first visit will be the last.

The curse of finding good Chinese food in the Westwood vicinity continues. I’ve found good grub up in Inglewood, but Ming Yuan is a lot like Wacky Wok, but slightly better since it’s run by a nice lady and more affordable. But as far as quality of food, it’s just like Wacky Wok, it’s edible, but it won’t wow you.

I really tried to like Ming Yuan since it is just around the corner from my house, but it left me wanting. The my Kung Pau chicken was simply bland and uninteresting. It certainly wasn’t inedible. I just wish it was a lot more edible. The interior was a little worn as well. The service was friendly and quick so that is a plus. But overall they could do a lot better.

This place is terrible. I came here with a friend who insisted that this was the best Chinese food in the area so I was excited to give it a try. I believe we both ordered the orange chicken and fried rice to split. The rice was stale and it tasted like it was 3 or 4 days old. Disgusting. The orange chicken wasn’t very good either and everything was served on paper plates with paper utensils. This place did not seem very clean either and I was very hesitant to finish my meal after the first bite. Overall I would not recommend this place to anyone, definitely go somewhere else because the food is not fresh here.

To me, I’ve been eating here since my glory days at LMU(I already forgot what the previous version was called) so it holds a sentimental place in my heart. The food isn’t the best, but sometimes I have a need for some sweet and sour pork(which is probably one of the better things here, along with the Wor Won Ton soup). I really wouldn’t recommend it unless you like unhealthy food for cheap and live in the neighborhood and are craving«chinese food» and don’t want to drive more than 2 miles. For me, its just all about the convenience and nostalgia. between 2 – 3 stars, but i’m rounding up for this factor. Everyone is nice, and its good to see its a family owned joint with the kids hanging out and doing homework in the place.

Oh gawd, this was so gross. I’m taking a Bar exam prep class that is being held at the Masonic Lodge. I needed some dinner and the offerings in the area are slim. I was craving some Chinese. Omg, big mistake. First, they dont use any chicken breast, its all DARK chicken which I hate. If I wanted dark chicken, I might as well go to Panda Express. The lady at the counter suggested Beef. Nope, no thanks, I dont eat that either. I had shrimp and they were like little nuggets of shrimp flavored chewing gum. So overcooked and the sauce on my dish(cashew shrimp) was like some kinda of weird gravy. It didnt taste like or resemble anything asian at all. The low mein they give you on the side was gag worthy too. It was plain noodles, no sauce or anything. Save your $$ and go elsehwere.

I made this mistake. This place has horrible chinese food ever. Most hole in the walls are fantastic, this is absolutely NOT. I walked in because I wanted to be cheap. their lunch special is like $ 5.99. I ordered a Kung Pao Chicken with White Rice. It took about 5 mins. That was reasonable. I had the lunch special togo because the food they served was on foam plates and customers used plastic ware. So I was like, not worth eating here. I rather eat in front of my computer. When I got to work and opened my lunch special, initially, it looked great… but then. i realized it is all vegetables and water chestnuts. what a disappointment. i felt totally ripped off… where is my MEAT. where is my chicken… the taste was not really flavorful and more greasy. overall. i was sad when i tried to eat every bite.
