My favorite place is gone!!! No more happy hour and new owner doesn’t running business well. Food quality and taste went down. Ah… I miss old mazinga…

Went there on a Wednesday night. Hoping the happy hour was until 9pm. Apparently they don’t have happy hours on the weekdays anymore? The waitress was very pretty and nice. However, i went there cuz i wanted some soju and korean egg roll dish and they said they only have those for the weekends! What?! And no other egg dishes on the menu. The new owner must dislike eggs. We had the watermelon and soju. It didn’t hit my spot but i will have to do. Not going back probably.

This place used to be my favorite place to come to drink and eat as their happy hour deals were cheap and the food tasted great. I came here yesterday and I found out the entire business is under a new management with a new cook and new menu. I thought I’d still give it a try but it was no good. I tried three different dishes but they all fell short. The happy hour doesn’t apply to alcohol anymore either. Sad about this place. Will have to find a new joint.

wtf is wrong with OLDMAZINGA!!! bring it back!!! I said like that when I got to know old mazinga was gone… literally gone. No more happy hour is calamity, yet I’ve jsut fell in love with NEWMAZINGA’s food and server. They have fried chicken, pizza and fusion meals. the fact i like about new mazinga is that they have pizza and chicken! definitely order the gorgonzola pepperoni pizza again, it’s basically gorgon zola pizza with thin dough. you really have to try it. it’s not comes with a lot of ingredients in it, but it’s ssssuuuuuuppppppeeer good!!! good for the draft beer(I ordered Stella 60oz) for sure. Aside from the draft beer, my friend and I also order the flavor soju which is pretty light and sweet. if you wanna try any flavor soju, I can recommend PEACH Soju!!! it’s likely soft drink hahahaha(Be sure, don’t drink too much. danger danger) The customer service here is pretty awesome, the severs are very courteous. Upon arriving, the immediately addressed us and seated us right away(thank you for checking my ID, even if I’m over 35). Explanation about menus from our sever really helped out a lot, and most of food listed on chicken and pizza category were from his suggestion, I would definitely come back here if I needed a place to just hang out late night and relax or catch up in K-town. *NOTICE: THEYHAVEELETRONICPROBLEM!!! plz plz fix it asap, I’m a big fan of ESPN!

Flavor Soju and Draft Beer with ftw!!! love it! The few draft beers they have on tap include Budweiser, Goose Island, Stella and shock top. They also have bottled beers, and flavored/unflavored Soju!(it’s only 10.88!!) as I said, love it so much!!! went straight the day of coworker’s promotion. When we got the table we seated in the corner where next to the entrance, server ‘J’ came immediately and gave us REALLYBIGSMILEYFACE!!! He was so so courteous!!! :):):) I’ve been here for several month and just noticed everything changed. New owner, menu and server(like that much though). feel the lack of PADAK(green onion fried chicken)… however, new foods are GREAT!!! simply GREAT! those foods absolutely captivated the taste of buds of mine. lost one star for No more happy hour, but then grateful new foods and courteous servers are accepted. We definitely coming back again! :)

The Mazinga Z of old is no more. The place has recently changed ownership, and along with it everything good about the restaurant. The happy hour is gone. The familiar dishes are gone. The TVs are off. The valet no longer carries change. Yes. the valet does not carry change, so make sure you carry some singles with you. The new owner is trying to ride on the success of the old Mazinga Z without offering anything substantial. My friends and I have been coming here for years, most often for the happy hours, and we’ll stay because the food is great and the place is nice. But no more. Now, the food takes 45 minutes to come out, and they will disregard your questions until you press them. Only when you threaten to leave will the food magically appear. No thanks. The familiar items on the menus are replaced by new items that are considerably higher in prices. I will take my business somewhere else. Bye Mazinga Z, thanks for everything.

New owner, new menu, new prices, new servers… New ISNOT always better. Communication is garbage. Portions have been significantly reduced as well as their quality. There are NOMORE side dishes. Mazinga used to have ½ OFF specials, NOTANYMORE!!! Weird new items. This was my go to spot, more often than I would like to admit, BUT I will no longer frequent this place. I will take my business to OB Bear, Prince, or any other Korean bars in K-town.

Came in on a Saturday night. The food was good but they were literally out of everything. They were out of all rice dishes, corn cheese, and all noodles dishes(however, they said they can substitute with udon noodles). This is ridiculous considering it was the weekend.

They’ve changed owners and have become very disappointing. They don’t have the awesome happy hour anymore and the food… eh, mediocre. The portions were not filling and unfulfilling. All of the previous staff are gone. even the valet guy! I will not come back here, we migrated to a different bar after the disappointing food and service.

This place is absolutely one of the best Korean pubs in Ktown. I’ve been there several times and the staffs were always nice. Try their food. If you like Korean food and spicy, everything you order, you will love it. If you are looking for a great Korean pub with good food and good price. You should definitely like this place.

Amazing price for great bar food. The place is dark and has loud music. Perfect for a group to get drunk and eat tons of food together. The music is not so loud that you won’t hear people at your table, but loud enough to drown out other tables. Great comic book pictures on the walls. We tasted the spicy octopus and the fire chicken with cheese. If you like spicy food, it won’t disappoint. The octopus is grilled before it’s soaked in hot sauce and mixed with onion and I think green peppers or green beans. I wish it had a little more octopus. The fire chicken has potato wedges, fried chicken bits, and so much delicious cheese. All plates are sharing size for two or three depending on how gluttonous you want to be. Along with a tall hite and coke, we paid just $ 27 because of the daily happy hour from 5 to 9. The service is prompt and friendly upon hitting your button. We will definitely be returning.

This is a nice place to eat at night for korean drunchie foods! The parking is valet and costs $ 2. Food: The food is given in huge portions, perfect for sharing with your friends. The yogurt soju is bomb, and can creep up on you if you’re not careful because you can put it away really easily. We ordered the spicy octopus, and fried chicken gizzards. This is one of my favorite go to places for really great korean bar foods. It’s great food for what you’re paying for. Service: The service is friendly and fast. They’ll always respond to you when you press the button on the table. They always tend to your needs and will explain the menu to you in detail if you want.

Oh Mazinga. My favorite 1cha. My friends know that when we head to K-Town, we’re most likely gonna stop be Mazinga first. If you’re wondering why the bar is adorned in cartoon robot and superhero wallpaper, Mazinga Z is an old, super popular cartoon long ago. In my opinion, Mazinga has some of the best bar food in K-Town which makes happy hour(50% off ’til 9) a steal. My must orders are: 01. green onion chicken — boneless, fried chicken topped with a perilla leaf/green onion salad with a slight hint of wasabi dressing with a honey mustard and spicy chili sauce 02. mussel soup — mussels in a clear, spicy broth that’s so refreshing while you’re drinking 03. stir-fried soondae/korean blood sausage — a spicy mixture of soondae, vegetables, and noodles. Be warned. It’s SPICY. The service is always good too. In typical K-Town fashion, the waiters don’t check up on you. Just ring your bell and they’ll get you what you need. Parking is mostly $ 2 valet. Entrance on New Hampshire.

Wow, the corn cheese here is to die for! I’ve been to multiple restaurants/bars in ktown and have yet to experience such deliciousness. The service is also really friendly. They provide complimentary dishes(pork belly, kimchi, tofu salad, chips and salsa). All of which were also delicious! Very worth it if you’re coming for happy hour. 50% everything. Parking is $ 2 if that concerns you. Parking is in the back/underground.

The happy hour cannot be beat. 50% off for all food and drinks till 9pm. Wow We ordered the: Fire chicken: Super Spicy. I love spicy food but its super super spicy. Stick to level 1 –2 don’t be bold and try the three. You can always add spicy. you cant take it off. The chicken is breaded and mixed with a hot pepper paste on a bed of cheese and potato wedges. The wedges are cooked to perfection. Bossam: Steamed Pork Belly? Comes with a pickled condiment and it pairs perfectly. They actually make it very well here. You can try it for free first because they give you a little sampler appetizer when you sit down. Soondae GopChang Stir Fry: Not my fave here. I wish the intestine was a little more crunchy but oh well. Cant win them all. Fried Chicken Gizzard: Comes with a side of green onions and its amazing. Ask for the garlic dipping sauce. There were maybe 10 of us and as we were calculating the bill my friend said 130. I freaked out thinking she meant per person. She clarified that it was for the total. We ate till we were about to explode. We drank till we were all trashed and it was only about $ 20 per person. It was such a great deal we went again two days later. They have valet and it will cost you about $ 2 but I think the deal is so worth it.

Nothing too particularly amazing about this place minus the décor. Every wall has some sort of superhero to mimic the concept of Mazinga and the setup of the tables is very nice, with hidden pockets of privacy and intimacy. I got there before my party so I had time to look at the menu for a while. Nothing particularly stood out, minus the unique«–rita» drinks. I opted for the makkeolirita, which comes in grapefruit flavor and was surprisingly pleasant. It tasted like lychee to me. The lament is, it’s super weak. Even after finishing that large size, I felt absolutely nothing. Wasted calories. I took my non-Korean friends so we ultimately ended up ordering some mediocre yet standard things… fishcake soup, chicken karaage, takowasabi, and chicken feet. The fishcake soup was pretty cool since they give you a LOT of odeng, although it’s not the best quality odeng. It’s the chunkier, thicker kind, if you’re into that. The soup, however, was very«shiwonhae». The best way to describe it would be refreshing, with a slight spicy end kick. Perfect soju anju. The takowasabi was good as well, but less flavored than the ones I’m used to. It comes topped with fish eggs. The chicken karaage was standard and they were larger sized chunks but the dish was overall small so if it weren’t for its HH price, it wouldn’t be worth it. But then again I’m sure the menu prices were set with the HH prices in mind anyways. The chicken feet was level 2(out of 3 levels) spicy but wow it was so spicy that nobody could eat it. Even I, the Korean who lovessss spicy, could not eat it. Damn. The complimentary fruit and cutlet ended up being my favorite part, since the cutlet is topped with sweet gochujang sauce that makes it pleasant and the fruit is, well, fruit. The bathroom is super janky-crap all over the floors and soap that doesn’t work… I’m a huge soap person so when I’m pumping away and there’s no soap or even foam coming out… that makes me question how the employees wash their hands to comply with the law after using the bathroom. Gross. Can’t say I’ll be rushing to come back here anytime soon!

Happy Hour makes meee Happyyy! This has got to be the best secret kept hidden ever! I only discovered this place recently when my korean buddy took me here during their happy hour time! They serve some pretty awesome dishes that I don’t normally see at a typical korean restaurant. My friend ordered the fried glizzard(sounds gross, but its totally NOT!) with green onion salad on the side, Dubbokki or the spicy rice cake, corn and cheese(A must have!), and their spicy fish egg soup. Everything was super delicious and cheap too! During happy hour, every dish is HALF off, that’s RIGHT! Half OFF with a purchase of ONE alcoholic beverage per table. Since my buddy and I aren’t much of drinkers, we just ordered one bottle of their HITE beer. The total bill came out to be $ 30 which I thought was such a great deal for two people and a bunch of dishes. Highly recommended! Parking: Valet parking for $ 2 underground

Copied over from my Joo Kyung Ya Joo review with a few editorial changes. I have no idea why they split it off like that: After a weekend of emotional turmoil, we decided to get some Korean comfort food at Mazinga Z. As many before me have claimed, the place is more than slightly dirty, with the obligatory sexually graphic graffito and scummy floors that comes with these types of places. Fortunately, I think both of us understand that there’s a time and place for everything. As a loose ethnic equivalent of an American dive bar, you don’t come into a place like this and expect general cleanliness. What you can expect however, is tasty, artery clogging food and booze at a reasonable price. And in this arena, Mazinga Zed comes through in the clutch. Especially helpful to the cause is the 7 day a week happy hour special. From 5:30 — 8:00pm, all alcohol is two for one. The fried chicken gizzards — sounds disgusting but is really quite tasty — are the best in town(a dubious distinction at best I know, but still…) and the«Seri» plate, a distant cousin of Mexican chicken fajitas complete with sizzling platter, is a solid nod to pre Roy-Choi MexiKorean fusion. The Kimchi pancake is also very, very solid. The bill for 1 bottle of soju, 2 large Hite beers, 1 seri plate and the kimchi pancake, with complimentary egg casserole, spicy beansprout soup and sliced cucumbers was $ 33 even. Instead of getting a second bottle of soju under the happy hour special, we opted for two large beers which is roughly the equivalent price of the soju. Very nice of the staff to allow that. The crowd here is pretty mixed, and once in a while you get the K-town thuglife wannabes in here spouting their nonsense, but I would say that’s only during prime time hours on Friday and Saturday, and we’re too cheap not to go during happy hour. The staff is efficient and pretty friendly too, and several of the workers have been employed there for years. The one thing that truly irks me here is that Mazinga Z has an unfortunate policy on their bills. Namely that of rounding up all prices to the nearest dollar and then adding a flat 10% on top as tax and then rounding that number up to the nearest dollar, resulting in an even dollar amount on all bills. E.G.($ 9.95+$ 12.95+13.95) x 1.0925 = $ 40.26 in a normal restaurant setting. In Mazinga’s accounting system, this formula would be displayed as(10+13+14) x 1.1 = 40.7 then rounded up to $ 41. The disparity used to be greater when the sales tax was 8.75%, but it’s still a fair amount of additional profit at 9.25%. When you think about it, $.75×300 daily transactions x 350 days of operation comes out to just under $ 80,000 of pure unadulterated annual profit skims off the top. Which is not to say that that’s enough to keep me and my missus from going back: sometimes you have to put your moral compunctions aside to enjoy the pleasures of 2 for 1 drinks and fried chicken gizzards. Such is life, neh?
