I miss spending time up here! The MS /Boelter roof is dear to my heart. Whether you’re visiting Boelter Penthouse, or just escaping from a study session inside, there’s always a beautiful view and plenty of space to think.

The connected roofs of Math Sciences and Boelter Halls are among the quietest and most scenic places on campus for eating a quick lunch, making a private phone call, or for placing a regroup during a hash run. And if you’re there at night during one of the Planetarium shows, you might even be able to check out the insides of the white telescope domes located on the Math Sciences portion of the roof. On clear days, you can spot the Getty Museum and also winnow through the opulent Bel Air estates peppering the northern ridgeline for mansions that exhibit authentic Baroque architecture. Take care not to bring loud parties here; some very lucky students and professors have offices on the roofs. The roofs used to be open 24/7, but recently the University put Bruincard locks on the ground floor doors to secure construction efforts in Boelter Hall.(And perhaps also to keep out the homeless who used to sleep in the grad student work areas). Boelter and Math Sciences(including their roofs) are public property and normally open 8am-6pm weekdays(and sometimes on weekends).
