Des délicieux sandwichs avec une vraie bonne baguette comme chez nous, des quiches, des salades, des soupes, des desserts, des jus de fruits… Un vrai plaisir de déjeuner chez Madame Monsieur. Je recommande vivement !

Tried their canelés, not bad but did not wow me. For the size and its cost($ 3/pc), it’s definitely on the pricier side. It is a two bite pastry. Do not recommend if you ask me.

Fantastic spot. The house special is a little confusing, but it’s TWO sandwiches + soup which is a great value at $ 12. But what really stood out to me is their rustic baguette sandwiches. They have a wonderful crunch and chew on the bread, slathering of delicious rich butter and then slices of meat. Absolute perfection and true to a french countryside sandwich. Also their Quiches are really good. Glad it’s so close to my office, will be here frequently.

This is the cutest little French café I have found in Los Angeles. The coffee is amazing. The sandwiches and soups are very reasonably priced. Great place to grab lunch or have a coffee meeting or even read a book by yourself while eating! Every one that works there is so friendly. My new spot.

Opened my tomato soup and the bottom of the soup container fell out and the soup went everywhere. Called to complain and they claimed it was not their fault that their container fell apart. The food was extremely average. Will never be back.

Another great lunch find in the DTLA area! Quality fresh items. Delicious tomato bisque, even though they call it creamy tomato soup. Portions for the full sandwiches were huge. They also have pre-made little sandwiches ready to go. My only issue, was that I ordered a turkey sandwich from the menu which listed the ingredients and in the sandwich was a chipotle spread which had not been listed. I don’t eat spicy, so it was an unpleasant surprise. However, the owner(I think) stopped to inquire as to our meal and was concerned about the disconnect between the menu paper and the dish. I’m sure he would have made me a fresh one had I asked. He said the chipotle was to balance the Dijon… Or some such thing. All in all, I will go again soon, but will make certain to say not to add anything spicy… Just in case.

Best croissant I’ve had outside(and maybe inside) Europe — nice and warm at 8:00 am without the need to reheat after pulling it off the tray. Great espresso(medium roast). Will definitely be back.

This is another lovely little gem in the revitalized DTLA area. It’s not even 5 minutes from my work so I have visited frequently. The restaurant itself is small and has about 2 tables inside and 2 outside. It is super cutely decorated. They offer gourmet French sandwiches, sides, salads and pastries.(Side note: I’ve only been for lunch even though they offer breakfast as well). The menu is not extensive, but very well thought out(in comparison to Pitchoun down the street). The serving sizes are small, but super tasty and reasonably priced. They have small sandwiches that are about the size of an Iphone 5 and you can get 2 plus a side(like a couscous salad) for $ 11. Not a bad deal and it is pretty filling. I usually get one of the small chicken sandwiches and one turkey. But today I decided to branch out and get the turkey baguette — it was calling my name from the showcase window. It was $ 6 for a half baguette, which is probably about 6 inches. Definitely a good price especially if you compare it to a 6 inch sandwich at Subway — this is WAYYYY better. The bread was amazing and is baked fresh daily, it tasted really good too. I was just disappointed that when I opened it up there was only one tiny piece of lettuce and the portion of avocado was small and going somewhat brown. I guess that’s what I get for opening it up to take a picture on Unilocal.I would not have noticed it in the flavor had I just eaten it. The sacrifices I make for Unilocal.Lol. I deducted one star for the paltry lettuce and avocado. I also splurged on a pastry. At $ 3 for one tiny pastry, I felt kinda guilty, but I needed it to get me through the rest of this work day. I figured overall my lunch would be under $ 10 so that is not unreasonable. But wait a minute, just wait a minute, this Salted Caramel Cannales(deserving of capitalization) was AH-MAZING! It was the perfect blend of flavors and like true French pastries was not overpowering with sweetness. It was soft and doughy on the inside, with the caramel filling fitting in just right, and hard and crunchy on the outside. It was so good I am almost tempted to go out and buy another one. Almost. I’m lazy though. Now if someone delivered one to my office… that would be a different story.

This place is unlike anywhere else I’ve seen in downtown. If you’re having a stressful day but have found a bit of time to get out of the office, head here and forget you’re even in a busy metropolis. The sandwiches are authentic French style meaning smaller portions, so I wouldn’t plan on sharing with a friend. I already can’t wait to go back.

Très délicieux! I swung by for lunch. Had a half Le Pesto Baguette along with a caprese salad for $ 10(less than most sandwiches at Mendocino Farms). Everything was fresh and delicious. Of particular note was the baguette – probably the best I’ve had in Los Angeles. The space is also very clean and inviting. The petit sandwiches look a little small but a half baguette sandwich will definitely fill you up. In my opinion, this is one of the best bangs for your buck as far as lunch in dtla is concerned. Bön appétit!

Madame Monsieur? Oui oui! I’m on a mission to try out every eatery on this block while I am stationed in the area for work. Today I decided on this spot for lunch. It’s a very small restaurant with just a few tables inside and a few more outside, but it’s really quaint and doesn’t feel too crowded. I stepped up to the counter and decided on them wall that includes 2 petite sandwiches and one petite salad for $ 11. The sandwiches are very small but 2 of them with the salad were just enough for me. Warning — if you are looking for a man sized meal get a full sized sandwich plus a salad. The ladies up front were nice and spoke with a heavy French accent. I chose the garden salad, chicken petite sandwich, and turkey petite sandwich. The chicken was pretty good but the turkey was excellent. The sandwiches are pre assembled but once you order they toast the outside for you. The salad was super fresh but the greens used weren’t my favorite(personal preference). Overall a great experience. I would love to try some of their other offerings on my next visit.

I love french bakeries/restaurants and this is one place to go to if you want to experience what food is like in France! I only tried their pastries, but next time I want to get their sandwiches! Their sandwiches looked so so delicious, wish I got one yesterday! One of the Pastries I got was the Kouign Amann — their somewhat of a puff pastry that is cooked in caramel and looks like a little flower. It was very fluffy, soft, not too sweet — just like most parisian pastries, and just so delicious! The other pastry that I got was the Cannele with some vanilla & dark rum! It was a bit sticky, so soft and chewy on the inside and a bit of hard on the outside, the good kind lol! Overall these are the best pasteries that have in the store!

What an exquisite café! There is something so graciously and consciously different about MM than the other nearby places. Yes, there are some nice neighbors, to be sure, but this petit establishment is overflowing with love and respectful discipline.(Oh, and delicious food). Check out the small Underwood typewriter just above the counter. Or take in the strong and classic glass that showcases many of the goodies for your consideration. To those reviewers who whine about the small portions of the sandwiches, I say: Au contraire. They have large ones or petit ones, but — this is not Subway, mon ami. The smalls are about $ 4. If you are pretty hungry, consider the Special that I tried: 2 petit sandwiches and a salad for $ 11 or $ 12. This is perfect for me. Eat some now, save some for later. Or, eat it all at once. I tried LETURKEY(hand carved turkey, cream cheese, cranberries, arugula.) It was heavenly. And I don’t even care much for cream cheese, but sacré bleu, it’s perfect here. I then tried the petit version of LEJAMBONBEURRE(slow cooked ham from France, butter made with cream from grass-fed cows). It was like the best grilled cheese or similar that I’ve ever had. Shades of Monte Cristo, even, with the almost caramelized bread. Both were outstanding and satisfying. However, what about my Spring Salad(fennel, apples, cranberries, oranges, walnuts, citrus dressing)? Piquant comes to mind. Though not at all sharp, this combination had it all: sweet with some tang, plenty of pleasant crunch and luscious aftertaste. One of those rare occasions when the promise of the outward furnishings totally live up to the quality of food and service. The small staff is friendly and helpful. Your hunger will collapse and you may well begin to sing — quite possibly, La Marseillaise. Merci, Madame Monsieur.

Really great French bakery with an upscale-boutiquey vibe. The staff are friendly and warm, and everything looks beautiful. I walked by this many times and for some reason never really noticed the shop until recently. The café itself is very small — two tiny patio tables out front, and a few more tables inside. There is a small front display case by the counter, that shows off their baked goodies. The place smells great — fresh baked baguettes and the aroma of coffee always makes me feel warm and fuzzy. My boyfriend and I stopped in to grab a cup of joe and enjoy a casual breakfast this morning on their patio. We ordered the croque de madame and it was very tasty. The pastry bread was so buttery and food, with just the right amount of flakiness. It was a decent breakfast size and went perfect with the gloomy weather and hot coffee. Quality baked goods, fresh coffee, and pleasant bite — well, aside from the homeless man begging for a dollar… THAT’S DOWNTOWNFORYA!

There is nothing really fancy or hip about a turkey or tuna sandwich, but there is something beautiful in making simple really well. Simple, fresh, good ingredients. No fou fou mayo or fried crap. Real French sandwiches made by nice French ladies :) feels like you stepped into a small sandwich shop in Paris. Tried all their sandwiches, loved them all! There is also something very fun about ordering a «le egg» or «le tuna» hehhe.

«Mrs. Mr.» is one of my favorite places to grab a quick bite to eat in Downtown L.A. French owned and operated, this cute little café specializes in baguettes, petit sandwiches, pastries, and coffee(French press, pour over, and 8 hour drip options). I love everything here, but my favorite item here are their croissants, probably the best croissant you can get in Los Angeles! Yes, IMHO, even better than the ones you can buy at Bouchon! Bön Appetit~

5 stars, that’s right, 5 stars! This tiny boutique café really impressed me. When you walk in it’s all about the details here– the white subway tile, the carefully crafted arrangements, and the tiny sandwiches all tucked into wax paper pockets. I decided to get the lunch special which is two small sandwiches and a side for $ 11. I chose the chicken with dijon/tarragon, goat cheese with arugula/honey, and a quinoa salad to go. They toast the sandwiches to order. Now, I must admit, at first glance it doesn’t look that impressive, two itty bitty sandwiches sitting in an aluminum tin… but once I took my first bite I was taken back with how much flavor was backed into these little pockets of love. A must try for lunch in downtown. Trés délicieux!

My low star-rating has nothing to with the service, taste, or quality of the food — my gripe is with the price and size of my meal. Sure not kidding when they say«petite» or «boutique» sandwich — a 3×3 croque monsieur does not a happy gal make. Where did the other half of my sandwich go? Really kicking myself because the croque monsieur at the crepes express across the street is considerably larger and is reasonably — if not — similarly priced. I’m probably pissing off snooty/snotty self-proclaimed Francophiles(I don’t understand the fascination, but no matter) and sure sure sure — tell me I don’t know what a «proper portion size» is, or how my plebeian tastes can’t comprehend the splendor of Parisian dining(in Los Angeles of all places, yo!). Save your money and treat yoself elsewhere in the area — or spend your money and share your embarrassing office lunch with unforgiving coworkers. #neveragain #neverforget #foolmeonce

You can walk by Madame Monsieur without noticing it except for the outside table along the sidewalk of 6th street. This French boutique sandwich shop and bakery is a new addition to quick Downtown eats. This shop is quite small and so are the sandwiches and baked goods. The only large item here are the jamon baguettes served on a French roll. I came here to check something new out in DtLA. I figure this place was pretty good since Maggie C gives this place 4 Unilocal stars. Aside from the baguettes, this place also serves petite sandwiches both cold and toasted and pastries such as croissants, canele, cookies and various salads. I opted for the House Special which are two petite sandwiches, salad, and a drink. Pastrami and tuna were my choices for sandwiches, apple, grape, celery, walnut salad, and a Perrier. The sandwiches were pretty good. Of course being petite, I wish they were a tad larger. The salad was refreshing. Something, I may try at home though. The service here was friendly. It’s cool to see they were actually French and had real accents :) Presentation was pretty cool as the toasted sandwiches came in a packaged container with a label describing the contents of the sandwiches. Not worth driving for but worth a try if you’re in the neighborhood. Portions are enough to get you by. Don’t come too hungry.

What you’ll find here is a small modern, clean, and friendly establishment that serves up French-style sandwiches, pastries, and salads. It is located in downtown Los Angeles south of Bunker Hill, and near Pershing Square and the Biltmore hotel. It’s perfect for walking and not driving traffic. It warrants itself as a quick stop place of good eats that won’t leave you feeling heavy nor too light. See what it looks like: I recommend getting the lunch special at $ 10(See: ) The deal gets your hungry hands two European-sized(smaller) sandwiches. Caution: these are not regular sized sandwiches. Everything, from the cheese, to bread, and meat are done in a French way that exhibit what you may find in France or Europe. No, it’s not a panini, you nut. There’s no air in the bread, leaving no air pockets. The bread’s consistency is different, and doesn’t crumble. It’s soft and holds a smooth texture that is not creamy, but partial to flour over that cardboard grain we all are used to eating. Now the meat is not plentiful, but enough to balance out with the cheese and bread proportions. You’ll find this to be part of a unique bite where less is more. See: I found the sandwiches and quinoa+red wine salad to be more than enough to get me to a happy spot. While a lot of French cooking involves a ton of butter, I didn’t get that feeling here. It was a pleasant feeling where I knew I could relax there, much like a Parisian would at a café. Yeah, it has that kind of vibe. My curiousity got the best of me, and I tried a dessert item. The Kouign Amann is nuts. Just nuts. It took me back to Paris. This dessert was moist, rich, and the caramel sugar was sensational. You’ll have to experience it for yourself. See: I think it’s worth checking out for many downtown workers, who need something else to add to their deck of lunch spots. This place offers a reasonably priced deal, along with a French staff that was happy to explain the items to me. I appreciated it, and hope to be back soon.
