Great soul food in a historic part of Los Angeles. Perfect for your soul food cravings. I had the ox tails and they were great.

Just love love there ice tea and lemonade. Reminds me back south. I Love their portion I think they were overly generous! A few thing negative is parking is pain sometimes! Bathroom is scary and services is slow when it’s not very busy and it’s still slow. I will be coming back.

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this place! I’d have to say that I like bertha’s slightly better tho cuz bertha’s is more ‘authentic’(at least according to my frenz from the south), but m&m’s is less ghetto and I actually like their liver&onions so I’m gone them 3atars.

This place is not bad for take-out. I always order my food, pick it up and take it home. It is perfect for those days when you don’t feel like cooking. The food taste pretty good and home made. The ambiance of the environment isn’t the best, BUT, the food is great! If you want good basic home made tasting food, and you are near, then this is a great place to order, and take home.

Everyone in my party would give this restaurant less than a star if it were possible. Keep in mind it only takes one bad time to get a bad review, but there has been a few bad times at this establishment. Every time we came here, the service has been sub-par to ok. This time was horrible. There was a bad smell when we walked in, the tables were sticky, we seated ourselves, AND got our own menus! Then on top of that, our waitress had a bad attitude, her attire was horrible, AND she rolled her eyes when she passed by our table. Not everyone who works here is as bad as she, the woman at the cash register apologized to us on our way out the door. We didn’t eat there, and chances are, we won’t be eating there again. I wouldn’t recommend this place either.

Food is good, but the service is a special kind of awful. It ruins the experience every time I’ve been here. Go here if u want slow service and dirty looks.

HORRIBLE customer service. All of the waitresses here are Haters. I’ll pass on a hater ***** bringing me my food. Nobody who works here looks presentable(not ONE attractive waitress who works here) and all of them seemed to have little to no education as they speak. I will never ever support this M&Ms again and seriously? They should close it down already. The building looks like **** right along with the workers. And HR should not hire ghetto, lazy, workers who are there for a minimum wage paycheck only. Also, the macaroni and cheese here is like, they be making it out of the kraft box. It taste like ****. If I had it my way, this establishment will be CLOSEDDOWN. As for the old lady with glasses, a crooked smile, and look about 45: RETIRE. Cause your attitude wrecks of ****!

M&M is located across the street from a mall encasing Walmart. It has a humble décor. I stopped in here on a Wednesday afternoon with a client. I had the chicken with gravy. The portions were huge with two sides at $ 7.99(lunch). The chicken was fried covered with gravy. Not the best option for your waist line, but it was delicious with hot sauce. The mac&cheese, didn’t look appetizing, but it had a surprisingly good flavor.

Wish I/we could give more stars… Place needs a fresh coat of paint and a deep cleaning, dingy. Service was alright considering we got there around 8pm and they close at 9. No short ribs, no bbq ribs, no red snapper, we were stuck with fried chicken, smothered pork chops, and catfish(skinny things). How do you stay in business when you run out of things at the end of the day. Repeat customers are what keep a business thriving and successful. Guess maybe they’ve seen those days and don’t care anymore about new customers either. Basic fried chicken was okay, not seasoned — plain old fried chicken. Smothered pork chops were dry. We tasted and left 99% of the mac and cheese on our plates. Corn and okra was really salty. The ‘greens’ were collard greens… with no soul at all. The mashed potatoes and gravy was okay. Yams were alright. Tea was too sweet. Not enough to impress and want us to come back for more.

I’ve eaten here twice. I know the place isn’t that great. The service is ok. Sometimes slow. I usually take out. The two times I’ve been here the food has been hot. I love their smothered pork chops and greens. So good. I haven’t tried anything else. My friend and I come here and just devour the food. I’m surprised it has been getting bad reviews. For me it’s a nice hole in the wall. I did notice the difference in their food. Several years back it did have some soul in it. But it’s definitely worth going here if you get their occasional groupon deals. I bought three to take different people. The portions are big so we always end up sharing. I usually go during dinner time during the week.

As I walked into the place, I started having doubts that if this is a location I want to be in. The place is run down, greasy walls and messy tables. Paints on the ceilings were miss matched and patches on the wall look like it was done by someone with no experiences. As we sat down, the waitress was friendly but the service was slow because she was too busy talking to the other employee there. The restaurant only had 2 other tables with customers aside from mine. It took awhile before she brought us water and to take our order. The food arrived and it was wonderfully delicious. The corn bread muffins were oily but amazing. Fried chickens were moist and juicy. BBQ ribs were falling off the bones. All the sides were good. If the restaurant was in better condition and the server a little faster with her service then I would of given this location a 5 stars.

The food was so-so…I prefer the M&M’s in Carson… This location used to be really good back in the day. I’m not sure what happened, it had been about 9 years since I came here… I usually order the vegetable plate with Mac and cheese, yams, greens and the main entrée being red beans and rice. We came last Sunday and the service was terrible. The order got all jacked up, and the girl at the register was just confused as hell. The waitress had a thin white shirt on with a mint green bra underneath that I could see all to well. Ma’am, I came for soul food, not Titties! Please, please, please, let’s do better people…

Many, many, many, many, many years ago, M&M’s was the spot in Los Angeles for Soul Food. It was almost a «who’s who» of local celebs, professional athletes, etc. that ate there. Always crowded, the food was really good, the portions were plentiful and the prices were reasonable. It was the place to go for the meal you didn’t want to spend a day preparing or an evening cleaning up the kitchen afterwards. And when you compared them with Stevie’s on the Strip or Aunt Kizzy’s(that I’ve NEVER been a fan of), M&M’s was the spot. Then it changed. Exactly when, I don’t know. At one point there was practically an M&M’s every few miles of each other. Maybe that’s when they lost their mojo — cause as of now, they’ve surely changed and not for the better. After spending a long day at USC, my son and I decided to get some Soul Food. Considering where we live, soul food restaurants are far and few in-between. This visit was a treat. So I thought. The MLK location has always been, in my opinion, an inappropriate spot for an M&M’s restaurant, given it’s lack of available parking. But that would still be ok, if it was worth it. It’s not. The MLK location is the perfect location for a restaurant that no longer cares about the food, much less the experience, or the atmosphere in which it’s being served. First, the inside of the restaurant made me wonder if the grade in the window was legit. It appeared they haven’t touched the inside, paint, tables, chairs, via an redecoration since they first opened it. The look isn’t «quaint» or «down home» either. It looks abandoned. My son ordered the fried red snapper, yams, greens and macaroni and cheese. I had the same, but with pork chops. The«mac & cheese» looked like it was from a burned box of Kraft Mac & Cheese. It was super dry and several«roni’s» were rock hard. My 16 year old son has made better with the same Kraft box. The yams were uneventful and even more, uninspired. Straight from the can just warmed up and tossed in a bowl. The greens were absolutely bland. I ended up drowning them in hot sauce. You should never have to «drown» greens in hot sauce just to eat them. Needless to say that was our last visit. For soul food in LA, you have a variety of choices. Bertha’s, Nellie’s Place, Aunt Rosa Lee’s. Try one of those instead. This M&M’s is a cautionary tale for when a restaurant no longer gives a damn.

Well it’s hard to deny that M&M doesn’t have the best ambiance. Ok, it won’t win any beauty contests so if this is important to you then you might want to keep on driving. But if you want solid food then you definitely won’t walk away displeased because M&M knows how to dish out some tasty fried fish and oxtail. Both dishes were scrumptiously flavored. I loved the gravy they had on the oxtail and the candied yams were spot on. The warm cornbread platter with butter is a clear winner on their menu as well. The sweet tea is a bit too sweet for my palate, but that’s highly variable on your taste. Portion sizes are very generous even for the mini-lunch specials, which will set you back anywhere from $ 7.99 to $ 9.99. For a lunch that will have you thinking of coming back, M&M is the place to be.

I was not impressed. My short ribs were bland the rice had no salt or flavor. Cornbread was the best part of the meal. The peach cobbler was decent. My girl had the oxtails and she had to add salt, pepper, and hot sauce to give them flavor. This place needs a renovation, its pretty old and hasn’t been updated.

This has to be the WORST M&M’s I’ve been to. Apparently not all the chains have the same recipes cause the food is very bad here. I got some peach cobbler hoping it would be decent but it was so bad I couldn’t even finish it. I hate throwing away food but I had to chuck it. The customer service is terrible. The people are so ghetto here, and that’s cool as long as you’re friendly. But they aren’t. I would definitely skip this one and head to the M&M’s in Carson. The food is way better and the service is better(but not perfect.)
