I’ve been here a number of times so I thought it was time for a review. I’ve had the chorizo burrito, the machaca burrito, and the asada burrito. They are the best! Prices are really good too. Forgot about Chipotle. This place is the real deal.

Breakfast here hits the spot every time I stop by. Great food, great customer service, and affordable prices combined makes Lupitas one of my top breakfast spots in L.A.

A great little hidden gem where you can always get that truly home cooked meal. Nothing fancy or spectacular about the place other than really good food at a great price. Been coming here for years, the staff is mostly all family and always very nice.

Not the best burrito I’ve had, but it’s ready fast, and if you’re hungry it does the job! Solid little spot!

A little whole in the wall with a lot to offer. This place has not let me down in 6 years of being a customer. They always customize my burrito just the way I like it. $ 5.00 value can’t be beat considering the other local taco spot is now selling their burritos for $ 6.00 and it’s not have as good as Lupitas.

Yummy food for just a few bucks! I recommend Lupita’s menudo, chilaquiles and breakfast burrito. If you go with the chilaquiles, ask the staff to top them off with steak and eggs. Trust me on this one. The environment yells simple life, and I love it! A few tables, chairs, and pictures of the Virgen de Guadalupe. The staff is friendly, and it always feels like they’re happy to have you. If you decide to dine there, know that you pay at the counter. Oh, and it’s cash only. Overall, a great place for some quick, cheap, homemade-style Mexican food.

Stopped by this little hole in the wall with some Teamsters while we were filming on location and we loved their food! The chilaquiles were delicious and not spicy at all. My co workers got the machaca burrito and combination plates. The food was freshly made and the rice and beans taste just like my grandmas.

I don’t want to share! I know what’s going to happen… everybody’s going to find out and I’ll never get inside again. It always happens with the good one’s. Well… I have to give them their props… everything at Lupita’s is good… No frills homemade Mexican food. Breakfast and lunch… that’s it. Get’s pretty crowded on the weekends. It’s family run and they hustle to get you your grub. Sometimes the service can get dicey and you need to flag someone down. The food… Chorizo and eggs, papas con chorizo, tacos, nopales… it’s all there. But hands down… what Lupita’s makes better than ANYTHING else on the menu is their MENUDO!!! The proprietors are from the Mexican state Jalisco(where my family is from) and I shit you not… it is the BEST menudo outside my mother’s kitchen! It’s very clean and does not stink… they give you the option of red broth or white(true Jalisco style) and with or without hominey… that’s the way they do it at home! Now that’s fine and dandy but the taste… INCREDIBLE…savory to the last spoonful! They provide all the fixins’, onions, cilantro, dry chili, lemon… Anyhow, well now it’s over… my MENUDO love affair with Lupitas will end soon… I hope not… just remember to leave me some food!

So this past Sunday my Wife, Daughter and I were very u desisive about where to eat lunch, so we got off the freeway in Cypress Park. I looked up on Unilocal restaurants and I read review of this little place called Lupita’s restaurant, it looked like it had GREATREVIEWS, so we decided to give it a try. My wife had their Chile Colorado with Beef, my daughter had a Torta of Carne Asada and I had their Menudo(Since All Review Gave It A 5 Star Rating). BOY! Were they On Point… It had to be the best Red Menudo I’ve had in about 10 years(Besides My Wife’s Menudo Ofcourse). Their met was SUPERTENDER, the flavor was PERFECT& the Oregano, Onions and Red Pepper Flakes made it even that much better. My wife’s Chile Rojo was something from another world, it was SODELICIOUS! Again, their meat was tender, their Red Sauce was PERCECTION& their beans and rice were awsome. My daughter’s Asada Torta in her own words was the BEST she’s ever had. We learned afterwards they actually do a White Menudo which we can’t wait to go back and have, so see you soon. I cannot rave anymore about this little gem, hidden in this little street. You must try it if you are in such desire to taste TRUE&AUTHENTIC Mexican food. Hope you give it a try and that you have a wonderful experience, the staff is great, they were very attentive and made our lunch that much more perfect.

I can’t say enough about how good this place is. It’s funky, it’s small. It reminds me of a good trip to Baja. Food is cheap, good quality, and flavorful. Had just about everything on the menu, and never had a bad meal. That’s saying a lot! The only thing I wish they’d do is buy a credit card machine. So many times I’ve wanted to eat there but had no cash in pocket, and didn’t have the time to get to an ATM, order, and eat before my lunch hour ended. Lupita’s, GET A CCMACHINE! Even if you charged a dollar for credit card purchases, it’d still be well worth it!

Chorizo with eggs and cactus(nopales). AMAZING The menudo is also fresh tasting, not greasy, and the hominy is real corn kernel. This feels like homemade Mexican food and tastes less greasy than most restaurants. Generous portions for the prices. I will definitely be returning. Complete hole in the wall, but I have to say my favorite Mexican food in Los Angeles(except for Homegirl Café).

Hole in the wall, great homemade food, for just a few bucks. And they sell pan dulce at the register… SCORE!

Had the machaca with the beans and man was it good. I also had the red sauce which they give you and that was the icing on the cake. 5 stars on the red sauce alone! And the tortillas were nice and warm. Not sure if they are hand made but they tasted like it. If you want authentic Mexican food come here. My co worker got the quesadilla and it looked good! It smelled really good. definitely coming back The server is really friendly and attentive! The prices are extremely cheap for the quality make your trip out it well worth it.

Found this whole in the wall place and I was impressed with thier breakfast chorizo. I also sampled two tacos carne asada and carnitas. I ate up the whole thing. Small homely place that doesn’t take credit card, a sign of good mexican food. I need to come back on the weekend to try the menudo.

Food is ok. Some things are delicious. Customer service is ok. Seems like you have to be a regular to get great service. But overall they have decent food.

All cash, small cozy place. Beans were flavorful, mexican rice was good and not mush like many other places, the chilaquiles were good the red sauce was different from what I expected but overall it was tasty cheap enough eats. But the dish that stole the spotlight was the menudo, not greasy at all very flavorful tons of tripe delish overall. One con was that menudo was not that hot when I received it, but Iam guessing because we got there later in the day and not in the am when its probably fresh and piping hot, we shall return lupita I want me some more delish menudo.

AUTHENTICMEXICANKITCHEN. It is Saturday morning — a hangover — need to get to Lupitas, fast. The place is packed. The nearest parking is two blocks away and I am concerned that I will not make it before I bleed to death through my eyeballs. Need their Menudo, hot. Need all the fresh condiments and chiles, spicy. The staff takes one look at me and my meal takes LESSTHAN A MINUTE to be put in front of me. They have seen this condition, before. I am going to make it, I tell myself. Nice honeycomb tripe means someone really cares about their ingredients. Within the hour, I am refreshed and ready to start anew. The giant bowl was $ 6. Much cheaper than pharmaceuticals or the emergency room for an IV. Next time, I should hold off on the drinking until Saturday night, then I can get a pot of their menudo(bring your own pot) on Saturday before 2:30 pm. We all know menudo improves with age. Lupita’s Menudo has true aging potential. That way I can crawl to my kitchen on Sunday and start the recovery process without getting dressed. The wet burritos for lunch are perfect. If you make it here for lunch you will be surprised by the number of people. Breakfast during the week is anything you have ever seen on a mexican menu. Beans are bit runny, but this ISTHEREALDEAL. You can meet the owner every day here. Their hours are 7 am to 2:30 pm every day but Sunday. On Sunday they close at 2pm. Obviously, this is not a dinner spot. It is in Cypress Park(where the 5, 2 and 110 fwys meet — right next to Glassell Park) so don’t be surprised if it looks a bit different than a typical whitebread neighborhood because your wrought iron doesn’t get used on your windows. The LA metro yard and the Frisco Bakery are good sources of customers. The Frisco Bakery provides a pleasant yeasty smell to the neighborhood, but that also can come from the ¾ finished, jumbo bottles of Miller High Life beer left on the curbs from last night. BTW, it wasn’t me — I finished mine. Interior décor is a mix of garage sale furniture like tubular frame chairs and homemade wooden tables. Trust me, the emphasis here is on FOOD and LOWPRICES. It is cash only and the parking can be tough.

On a small side street amongst the Avenues sits Lupita’s, you could drive right by it and not even know it was there, but the locals in the neighborhood know where it is, on any given Saturday morning you’ll find this placed packed, many come here for a bowl of Menudo. I must admit I’m guilty… of driving by this place and not even noticing a restaurant but thanks to Unilocaler«Gino E.» I found me a new Mexican food spot to try and that’s why I’m here today, chilaquiles sounded good but I agree with Gino«NO queso y crema» I’ll pass, the wife ordered chorizo con papas and I ordered chorizo con huevo y nopales. Chorizo con Papas — Chorizo was nicely cooked and flavorful while the papas had a nice light crispness to the outside nothing out of this world but good food at a great price, my only complaint about the wife’s dish is they served her BURNTTORTILLAS, maybe my mother-in-law was in the kitchen! *(they were sent back before I could get a photo) 3.5-Stars could have been 4BUT serving burnt tortillas REALLY. Chorizo con Huevo y Nopales — Yeah you won’t find this one on the menu, I just asked and without a blink the waiter said no problem would you like the nopales mixed in or on the side! I only wish the scrambled eggs were fluffy and not flat like an omelet, though it tasted very good, I opted for beans only no rice, beans were thin/runny but taste was on point. 4-Stars Salsa — I’d say Medium heat but real nice flavor, thumbs up on the salsa! Definitely not the best Mexican food in town, but above average and reasonably priced.

I’d drive by this place daily on my way to work, and we finally decided to check it out this weekend. The place was packed on a Saturday morning, with bowls of menudo adorning just about every table in the joint. I resisted and went with the chilaquiles, which is ritual for me when first dining at a new Mexican spot. We also ordered the papas and chorizo breakfast. While the chilaquiles were not topped with my preferred condiments, such as queso fresco and crema, I was able to order a nice slab of carne asada on top. The red salsa had a distinct taste that complimented the seasoned half-crispy chips very nicely, with just the right amount of sauce. Combined with the tender asada with grilled onions, and beans and rice, the plate was licked clean. I would highly recommend requesting a fried egg and some asada with your chilaquiles for the perfect breakfast. As for the papas and chorizo, the combination of the two, in addition to hand-made tortillas, was also delicious. Again though, get an egg to accompany it for the full experience. In addition to the excellent service, cheap meals, and homey feel, there’s very few places that will serve your a plate the way YOU like it. Lupita’s has officially gone on my «regulars» list. I’ll be back next weekend for the menudo…
