The buttermilk fried chicken is the best. The sandwich was good, but the plain-jane fry on the chicken in the sandwich left something to be desired. PROTIP: I you could convince them to put the buttermilk and rosemary fried chicken onto the sandwich with the coleslaw i bet it would blow your mind up with delicious. Unfortunately they ran out of the bernaise sauce when I went. Found the garlic wings to be too sweet, and meh. tldr: Buttermilk 4 ever.

I’ve been wanting to try the Ludo Truck for quite some time. I finally found the chance when I saw them at the Renegade Craft Fair in LA this year. Luckily, there was a really short line. Sadly, the already ran out of biscuits. I decided to try their chicken strips. I ordered 2 chicken strips with bernaise dipping sauce for $ 5.75. I have to say that it was just ok. I thought the breading was a bit too hard but the meat inside was juicy. Overall, I wasn’t too impressed with it. I know the guy recommended that I get the wings, but I didn’t want to eat anything that was too messy. I may give this truck another try when I’m in the mood for some fried chicken.

If I can’t make it to Trois Mec, then I guess the closest I’ll come to trying Ludo’s cuisine is his truck. . Parked in food truck alley at the Chinatown Summer Nights event, we took the opportunity to get in line behind perhaps only 5 other parties to get a taste of some of the renowned fried chicken from chef Ludo’s coq on wheels. Even so the wait was somewhere between 30 – 45 minutes because they were pumping out the orders as soon as they were ready. On the bright side is that you know that what you’re getting is fresh… Three boneless pieces that were crispy on the outside, moist and juicy on the inside. The coating was well seasoned and not entirely breaded batter like KFC’s crispy recipe, but rather like a crispy karaage. It was perfectly seasoned, not overly so, and I could see the chopped rosemary on the crust which didn’t overpower either. The Bearnaise sauce was creamy with a faint vinegary taste… Three pieces for $ 7.50 is haute pricing even for a truck, the chicken was delicious, but you still have to wait for it, and some people in front of us were waiting longer than we were for the next batch to be ready as the Buttermilk chicken seemed to be very popular. Many people ordered fries for $ 2.50 but we were only interested in the chicken. The chicken is five stars on taste, but I have to take one away for the value and the wait…

Ludo’s Truck Takeover in honor of Prosciutto di Parma! Let me first say that the chef out front handing out the tasty slices of prosciutto was fun and lively! The event stated promptly at 12:30 at Pershing Square in Downtown Los Angeles. They offered three selections for $ 5 each Parisian Prosciutto di Parma sandwich by Ludo Crispy Prosciutto w/Mozzarella by Vinny Chopped Salad by John We tried two of the three selections. The Parisian Prosciutto sandwich was wonderful. A perfect combination of savory tangy and buttery! I can say nothing else about it other than it was delightful and wishing I had purchased more. The Chopped Salad was very fresh tasting with a wonderful creamy garlic«Caesar» type dressing over crisp romaine – chopped but not destroyed. The thin sliced prosciutto added the perfect smoothness to the round out the lightness of salad to make it filling. I wish it was a regular truck around our office area. Thanks Ludo!

Let me start with: If I could eat fried chicken everyday and not get a heart attack I would. The chicken strips was kind of pricey for just 4 pieces but it’s expected from gourmet food trucks. I think what made me think it was really good was the batter and it was served right off of the fryer. 4* from this fatty.

Tried Ludo Truck at the Zona Rosa block party in Pasadena and was pretty disappointed. The Buttermilk Fried Chicken was overcooked and the pieces were… tiny. The Bearnaise sauce was far off from the a real Bearnaise. It was too salty and flavors were off. The big miss was the coleslaw. Other than finding a piece of dark hair in our slaw, it tasted like cabbage and vinegar. Come on, really?! All this, for an overpriced meal that was soaked in frying oil. There was no line, since it was during the late hours of the block party. We had in total two orders, and were the only people ordering at that time. It took them nearly 10 minutes to cook our food. Such a disappointing experience, especially when I read all the positive reviews about the Buttermilk Fried Chicken. It seems that it is a hit and miss depending on time and location, and last night wasn’t our«lucky» Ludo night. I hope that Ludo take notes from the negative reviews and step up their truck food(as I’ve noticed, many Unilocalers echo the same issues with the food). All this, and the gross hair in the coleslaw result in a two-star rating. And I won’t bother standing in line for their food, knowing that I can get better fried chicken anywhere and everywhere.

Meh, not worth the wait or the price. This was my second time going to this truck. I’ve had the strips and the wings now, while they’re good, they don’t exactly live up to the wait, hype or the price. I’d rather try some other truck next time.

What are you doing people? It seems there’s so many complaints on here and in 80% of those reviews, people are not getting the signature dish. Let me say it loud and say it proud… GETTHEBUTTERMILKFRIEDCHICKEN! I was confused when I saw the menu so I asked the girl in the truck. The only chicken cooked in the raved about buttermilk rosemary batter is the dark meat fried chicken. The chicken strips, the garlic honey wings, the chicken sandwich… those are not done with the buttermilk batter. It’s a completely different batter. The crust on the strips is light gold with seasoning. The crust on the buttermilk chicken is a dark brown. If you insist on eating only white meat, then you’re going to get what you get, an average chicken strip. Buttermilk Fried Chicken($ 8) — Very crunchy and flaky, with a little extra batter on the sides so it doesn’t fall off soft and soggy like some buttermilk fried chicken. Carrying a strong rosemary taste, the chicken is infused with rosemary and other spices. This only comes with boneless dark meat. The honey mustard sauce was okay. My only gripe is that it was $.75 for an extra dipping sauce(I wanted to try bearnaise). If only I had brought along my stash of extra Chick-fil-A sauces from my cubical. It’s alright, I forgive you. The crust was so good, that I was going to pick up the little bit that fell onto the asphalt and eat that too until my friend said, «What are the heck are you doing Howie???» Okay, you caught me. Honey Lavender Biscuit($ 2) — The biscuit has very imbuing lavender flavor. The honey is already drizzled all over the top of the biscuit when you get it and the sweetness mixes perfectly with the lavender. If you like lavender, love biscuits, then get it. If you’re ehhhh on biscuits you might want to pass. The single biscuit isn’t very big and isn’t as fluffy as other biscuits I’ve had. My point is… It’s pricey for what you get. Flavor is really good, texture is okay, serving size is small. The buttermilk chicken I had deserved five stars, but it’s the rest of the offerings that bring the rating back down to earth. If you order anything else… hey, that’s on you. For those of you curious… Ludo LeFebvre was not riding shotgun.

Meh. The«crispy» chicken in the sandwich wasn’t crispy — perhaps moderately crunchy-ish in parts. Not surprised — buttermilk breading cannot, by definition, get crispy. Ever had a crispy buttermilk biscuit? No, you haven’t. Maybe a bit crunchy, most likely crumbly. This chicken is on or below par with the chicken tenders at Ralph’s deli counter. Ralph’s chicken is quite good, actually, just too salty sometimes. But it’s *crunchier* than this. Maybe even crispy. Roll was just okay, not mad fresh — which would make a difference. Bernaise sauce nothing special, didn’t add or take away from the sandwich. Cole slaw tasted like shredded cabbage in Italian dressing — I believe that’s what it was. Seems lazy. Chicken wasn’t golden brown — more like tanned beige. At least the picture from their website(which I’m including) reflects this. Was not hot — not freshly fried. I didn’t hear or smell any frying going on while I was at the truck. Ever had a chicken sandwich at Chick-fil-a or Wendy’s and that first bite is a combination of crunch, extreme heat and a burst of juices? Don’t expect that here. Generic & unremarkable. Next!

Couple of things to remember: 1.) It’s a food truck 2.) It is not served by Chef Ludo LeFebvre is not going to be in this truck serving you food. So by no means, is your experience going to be comparable to when you attend his Ludo Bites series. With that said, the fried buttermilk chicken… oh heavens… seasoned heavy but with the bearnaise sauce, it meshes well with the saltiness. Crisp outside, moist in the middle. And their lavendar biscuits with honey is to die for.

Finally! My first experience with the Ludo Truck! Yeah, yeah, I know, I’m late to the party again. Like I’ve said before, I don’t go seeking food trucks… if they happen to be where I’m at and I’m hungry, then it’s a go. Funny about Ludo though, I’ve been a fan even before tasting his food by reading reviews and stories. Listen, I tried the reservation lottery a couple of times for the Ludo Bites and wasn’t lucky enough to get in. Obviously, I didn’t try hard enough but I’m not the type that likes to jump through hoops to eat. I ordered the Ludo Bites cookbook when it came out and I can tell you that it’s not for the typical home cook. I’m feeling a little intimidated but I’m going to try… eventually when I have some time. Reading the stories of the pop-ups in the book made me wish that I had tried harder to get in. I look forward to the brick & mortar collaboration with Jon Shook & Vinny Dotolo. Back to the truck… I ordered the Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Slaw, & Honey Lavender Biscuits. The chicken was piping hot, juicy, tender and delicous. The slaw & the biscuits were O.K.

Ludo is totally legit when it comes to his«guerrilla» fried chicken. It may possibly be one of the tastiest fried chicken I’ve ever had(granted, I don’t really eat that much fried chicken for a worthy comparison). The buttermilk fried chicken, even though the outside is insanely crispy & fried, the inside is extremely moist & retained amazing flavors. You don’t really need any sauce to enjoy it(silly me, I grabbed a bunch of ketchup packets) but we had some with the spicy mayo since it was complimentary. We also tried the honey garlic wings and those were pretty awesome. You get an entire wing drenched in his specialty honey garlic glaze. I was pretty meh on the Lavender biscuit. You can barely taste the lavender. Delicious fried chicken at a price — $ 14 for everything above(3 pieces of buttermilk fried chicken, 2 honey garlic wings &1 lavender biscuit). Portions are tiny, but your taste buds will thank you!

Chef Lefebvre I heard so much about your marinated chicken balls, so I wanted to try them, but you no longer have them on the menu! Because the chicken balls were no longer offered, I ordered the 2 piece chicken, which is pretty much thick, huge pieces of chicken strips marinated and seasoned in the same manner as the balls. It was absolutely DE-LICIOUS! The batter was fried perfectly, so it wasn’t too crispy. The chicken had tons of flavor. The main reason why I like this was because of its peppery flavor. When I ordered the honey lavender biscuits, I thought it would’ve been honey glazed and baked, but it was just a biscuit drizzled with honey. That’s a FAIL. It’s the lazy way for flavoring biscuits. I just had to knock it down 1 star for that.

So thankful this LA food truck made an appearance in Vegas at the South Point Gourmet Food Truck Fest. I had never heard of this truck but, my friend who’s an avid Top Chef watcher said he liked Chef Ludo and heard about his truck. We got the fried chicken(because that was what they were known for) with bernaise sauces and their honey lavendar biscuit. I was excited about their biscuit because my friend played it up for me but, it was kind of a disappointment. Other than where the honey was, it was dry :( The fried chicken saved the day tho. I was super full from eating everything else so, I just had a sample of the chicken and after that one bite, I WISH I had my own. The skin was so tasty(duh!) and crispy but, the best was the chicken itself. SOMOISTANDTASTY! There was really no need for the sauces!

Thank you LudoTruck for making your way out to Vegas for the South Point Gourmet Food Truck Festival(11÷5÷11). This was the second truck I stopped at and it gave me a chance to try the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. I am, by no means, a connoisseur of this southern delicacy. It’s something I hardly eat and if I do it’s usual from a drive-thru. But, with that disclaimer, I’ll still say that it’s something that shouldn’t be missed. The provencal chicken($ 8) was an order of two large pieces of juicy, boneless chicken infused with rosemary and herbs de provence. The exterior, while a bit thick and heavily breaded, was amazingly crispy and flavorful. Throw in a bearnaise dipping sauce and what you’ve got is a dish that puts the colonel’s 11 herbs and spices to shame. The one thing that confused me was the price. Reading other reviews, it seems like $ 6 is the normal price for the two-piece chicken dish(w/coleslaw and no fries), but at this event it was $ 8. Somebody needs to explain that to me.

Visited LudoTruck while they were in Las Vegas for a Food Truck Fest @ South Point Casino. We just got the provencal pepittes with bernaise sauce. The wait was about 15 – 20 minutes. It was two big chunks of marinated boneless chicken, sprinkled with rosemary and(sea?) salt. I didn’t like the batter too much, it was a little thick so it was crispy as you bite in, then soggy batter as you bite deeper. The chicken however was very very moist and juicy — better than whenever my mom tries to cook chicken. It came with a small cup of Ludo slaw, which in my opinion did not have much flavor to it.

Months passed before I finally tried this truck. I was dying to. I had high expectations, given Ludo’s reputation and growing celebrity. Finally, the Big Red Coq wasn’t far from my house, as it was stopped in Woodland Hills. Few food trucks can offer such a tasty lunch that if justifies standing in the stifling heat of The Valley. BUTTHISONEDOES. I ordered all the unique items: 2 Fried Chicken Balls The French Fries And a Honey Lavender Biscuit All of it was fantastic! I savored the biscuit first. I loved it. It was doused in a sweet honey, contrasted by a salty exterior of the biscuit. It was pillowy inside and crunchy outside. The lavender isn’t overpowering, underneath all the other flavors it offers a great fragrance. The Chicken Balls were amazing! Soooooo juicy, so crunchy outside. There was some rosemary and a lot of ground pepper in the batter. A little difficult to eat, but only cause they’re pretty big. Two of them offer a great lunch sized portion. The BBQ Sauce that came with it was amazing. Slightly tangy and vinegary but also sweet. The Fries were great. I’ve had better at Umami Burger and The Grill em All truck, but these were very, very good. Soft on the inside, slightly crispy outside. A slightly thicker cut. The three days of prep for them definitely seems to pay off in the end. This truck takes credit card, definitely a plus. Be prepared for a long line though, this truck is popular.

Given the golden opportunity to place Ludo’s balls in my mouth… I did the unthinkable and refused. No chicken balls for me today, thanks very much. I lovingly licked and devoured his biscuit instead… Was lucky enough to find this truck with only 4 or 5 people in line…5 minutes later they take my order and 5 minutes after that I’m headed back home… pretty damn efficient. CHICKENSANDWICHCOMBOWITHFRIES($ 9.75) Warm, soft breadbar bun encompassing thick, crunchy, well battered and fried chicken strips enhanced with a tangy Ludo slaw. It was pretty good, just nothing great… but then again… it’s chicken… so what can you do? The fries were hot and crispy and seasoned well …again, pretty good but far from their claim of «perfect» fries… what I had next however, came pretty damn close… HONEYLAVENDERBISCUIT($ 1.50) Just figured I’d try something sweet for once and added this to my order on a whim… …and BOY, was I glad I did. Hot, golden, flaky, sweet biscuit deliciousness… I had only intended to take one bite and give the rest to the wife… but…I didn’t want it to get cold… so… I ate the whole damn thing. The honey adds the sweetness to the moist yet airy flaky biscuit layers… the lavender is really just a tiny hint… barely noticeable but adds nicely to the unique flavor. Needless to say, I REALLY liked this biscuit! All in all a satisfying meal made all the better with the biscuit dessert. Next time I’ll have to sample those balls… hell the truck is easy enough to spot… just look for the HUGECOCK… Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

I tried to love your truck so bad, Chef Ludo. So bad. I admit, I came here with high expectations because I heard really great things about his fried chicken from this truck. I couldn’t give the Ludotruck more than 3 stars though. Chicken Balls– Probably my favorite thing. Crispy batter on the outside, and I liked the overwhelming taste of rosemary. I had the choice of dipping it in bernaise sauce or honey wheat mustard. Honey-glazed wings– The wing itself is really meaty.(My boyfriend and I were joking how it could potentially be a pigeon wing) The honey glaze was pretty tasty and sticky, a tad too much for it being«convenient eating» as truck food. Chicken tenders– ugh. this was extremely salty. I tried to peel off the batter, but I realized the chicken itself and the batter were both really salty. Is that what the side cole slaw is for… to chug down immediately after? I did appreciate the overall quality of chicken and I did enjoy tha ballz. But in the future, I would probably skip this truck.
