Definitely worth a try! I love their atol de elote, nuegados con miel and of course the pupusas :) The flavors are very authentic and the portions are big. MUSTTRY!!!

I’ve had Los Molcajetes ever since I was a kid and I’ve tried pupusas from a wide variety of places. No one tops Los Molcajetes. Slightly pricier than other places but it’s worth every penny. If you don’t want to wait for your order at the restaurant, I strongly recommend ordering over the phone. That way by the time you arrive your order will be ready.

I really don’t see what the hype is all about. Firstly, the décor inside this place is horrible they have nasty firetruck-red painted chairs and the seats on the side are so uncomfortable. Secondly, the food itself isn’t that«bomb» as people say it is. The pupusas are, in my opinion, run-of-the-mill and a bit overpriced. Honestly, after reading the reviews on Unilocal about the«amazing» pupusas it’s clear that I was let down. The pupusas are not bad but their definitely not as bomb as people set them out to be. I don’t think this place sells«the best pupusas in Los Angeles». There’s so many better places around LA that are not located in trash-vill. Westlake(aka the location) is seriously trash. Overall I was let down. It’s an okay restaurant but not my favorite and surely not the best. I suggest finding another place

A friend brought me here to get the«best pupusas» in Los Angeles. Well, first of all, I never really have gotten pupusas except for the ones that the USC farmer market offers and I don’t think that’s exactly real competition. It’s a hole in the wall — minor décor and pretty dark inside. The menu is pretty simple consisting of pupusas as the main feature and then other snacks and drinks. I got 2 pupusas — bean, meat, and cheese since my friend told me «two is more than enough» — I had doubts though — I was so hungry. Well, he was right. They are the size of the plate and extremely filling. They were DELICIOUS with the mild, almost sweet salsa and brine-y slaw that accompanies it. Slather that shit all over the pupusas and it is so good. They are all freshly made. Which means that it does take a long time. We probably waited like 20 minutes for our food, which is reasonable since it is all homemade but I thought it would be faster than that. So far it is my favorite place to get pupusas.

Had not been here in a long time but the pupusas have always been great. Stopped by and placed a to-go order for 9 pupusas and the wait was about 25 mins. Pupusas are a good size but I felt some lacked more cheese and beans. Got it to go and for some reason the curtido was on the dry side but still delicious! Will come again soon to see if they should be upped a star rating or dropped one

Was looking for a new location to eat pupusas and I have found the spot. I will be coming here more often. The service was good and the pupusas are big and delicious recommend this place for people who are looking for good pupusas.

This is my first time trying out this restaurant. I heard good things about it but it still surpassed my expectations. To start off it’s in a sketchy part of the city but don’t let that intimidate you from giving the place a visit. Con: They don’t have a private parking lot so we had to drive twice around the block before we found parking. Pro: they do take phone orders. Because I had read other reviews stating that the wait was long, I called ahead of time to place my order. Therefore when we got there I just gave my name, sat down and in a minute our food was served. We had the pupusas revueltas which doesn’t sound like much but they were amazing. Like seriously, they were delicious. To drink I had what is called«Chan,» tasted like Jamaica with chia seeds, very thirst quenching. I left with a full stomach and can’t wait to come back! Definitely a pupuseria worth visiting!

The food is amazing if you want pup us as this is the place for you I swear it’s an orgasm I’m my mouth The only bad thing about it is that it’s cash only and there’s no parking outside. But the food in general it’s exquisite. Tried it once and kept going ever since I really recommend this place.

Definitely the spot for pupusas! Came here on a Saturday morning and the place was not packed at all. Los Molcajetes is a «mom & pop» type of restaurant and it is located in a rough neighborhood(so bring a friend or 2. but their food is worth it!) in Los Angeles. Since it was my first time here my boyfriend ordered all of our food… my favorite was their pupusas con chicharron– closest to homemade as you can get. Their food is made to order so expect a 20 – 25 minute wait. Staff are friendly and the place is clean… especially their bathroom. Definitely coming back here.

I really wish I could give this place 5 stars because the food really deserves it, but the wait is intolerably long– no matter how busy the place is or how much you order. Be prepared to WAIT! I always get the cheese pupusas and they come out warm and oozing with cheese. Some of the cheese is even a bit grilled on the edges, so delicious! Not a lot of extra masa. Great cheese to masa ratio. I’m not a fan of the horchata, it tasted a bit burnt to me, but I’m not an expert on Salvadorean horchata so judge for yourself. Great food! You’re in for a treat :)

The pupusas here are so good. The portions they serve you are worth the price. Be aware that when you order it will take a while for your order to come out. Since everything is done by hand and to order it takes them a while.

One if the worst experiences I’ve ever had, the establishment seemed like it was closed from the outside, the décor seemed like it was picked out of the Goodwill and the service was terrible. When we ordered people are often greeted with a smile or at least a how are you. We waited for about an hour for our food to come out, we only ordered 3 papusas and a Carne asada plate. The food was extremely greasy and bland. This will be the only time I come to this establishment.

35 minutes to get served for two people! The pupusa’s are filled in oil, so much that after eating half of one gave me a stomach ache. The Carne asada was also super greasy, the grilled platanos(bananas) were all just drenched in oil. If you are hungry, don’t come here, you will wait and you will wait to eat pure oil. The place is run down, and the service is mediocre. The ambiance is also mediocre, people just sitting there watching you. The wait just felt Awkward. When you first arrive, you don’t even know if the place is open, looks like it’s an abandoned structure until you see some heads inside the gated windows. The place was dirty to me, I’ve been to better establishments down in TJ. I would not come here again! Felt like I completely threw away $ 26.00, we didn’t even eat most of what was served. Oh and the horchata tasted liked powdery peptobismal. Just horrible.

The food here is bomb. The perfect place to come and eat with few dollars. The dessert makes me feel at home, back in EL Salvador.

The food is bomb! OMG the best salvadorean food I have ever had. The pan con pollo is delicious especially with their secret sauce. The ambience is modern yet speaks to the traditional salvadorean culture. The waiters are polite and bilingual which is really rare in my experience going to salvadorean restaurants. The waiters explain everything well and offer great suggestions. The pupusas are divine. I mean my Lord Jesus Christ! Hands down the best in LA County. The empanadas con frijoles were knock my shocks off good. Overall Unilocalers you must all come to this place. You may run into me because I am now addicted. Plus bring your appetite. Muah until next Unilocalers. Stay hungry and adventurous.

I thought I knew what pupusas were supposed to taste like. This place set me straight! The food here is really good. I was able to sample the mixed pupusas(this is the one I would recommend) the curtidos, horchata, and the fried yucca and chicharrones. Whoo! Everything was so fresh and well seasoned, it was hard to stop eating. The prices were also reasonable — at the time of this writing, $ 2 a gigantic pupusa, and less than $ 2 for a large pint of horchata. A single pupusa is what you *should* eat but don’t feel bad if you order two — there’s no shame in taking one home for a second meal. The chicharrones and yucca also came out fresh and delicious. Horchata also solid — although was different from what I’m used to — the cinnamon came through beautifully and was refreshing at a place with no air conditioning. But the icing on the cake was really the curtidos. Oh man, so crunchy, crisp, salty, and tangy. Really brings everything together. I’m taking off a star because the place had no AC and is not really in the best part of town, but perhaps that adds to the charm(hey, on the bright side, plenty of parking!). Most of the clientele seemed to be regulars and spoke Spanish(always a good sign). Definitely come for the food. It’s what the restaurant focuses on and does incredibly well. Sooooooo good!

I will be straight with you and say that the only reason why I am giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because the service was somewhat slow. Other than that, this is a 5-star establishment(in terms of food, let’s be honest now) hiding in the décor of a 1-star run down building. My friends and I were struggling with trying to figure out what to eat, so like the good little Unilocalers that we are, we… turned to Unilocal. Our search term? Pupusas. Scrolling through the list of potential places, Los Molcajetes jumped out to me because one of the top reviews for this location said that it was«hands-down the best pupusas place ever»(ok, maybe not in those exact terms, but the words«best» and«pupusas» were definitely in there somewhere). So our group moseyed on over for a new food adventure. The neighborhood that Los Molcajetes is located in does not do much to sway people to wander inside, and the place itself definitely leans more towards«hole-in-the-wall.» But hey, some of the bestest food places are hole-in-the-walls, so what the heck. Needless to say though, I had another moment of panic when we walked in. In my head, I was screaming, «Please let my friends not hate me for randomly suggesting we come here.» Initially, there was mass confusion in our group because it didn’t seem as if there were even pupusas on the menu, which was very baffling to me. I was about to repent for my sins, when we discovered the actual menu that features their entire array of pupusa options. And zomg, were the pupusas delicious or what? Omnomnom. THEPUPUSAS: — The pupusas here are ginormous! Definitely get your money’s worth at $ 2 for a huge pupusa. Sorry, let me correct that: a huge DELICIOUS pupusa. — Lorocco con queso: So lorocco is an actual flower, not flour, which was something that we had to clarify, because we are pupusa newbies, but this was… delicious! — Mixed: Chicharron(shredded seasoned pork, since this is El Salvadorian chicarron) and refried beans– um, how many ways can you say delicious?(I know, I’m being super creative with my word choices right now.) The chicharron was tender and flavorful. tl;dr: If the service was a little faster, this place would be 5-stars all the way!
