The best. Seriously. Quesadilla Mexicana. Service is always great, and they’ll pretty much make whatever you want.

Ordered 30 breakfast burritos for a gathering at 7am and they were delicious, cost-effective, made on time, and packaged well.

I few year ago I ate a delicious torta and horchata from this restaurant. I ordered a refill of their delicious horchata. I was so satisfied with my meal that I even expressed to the waitress a few times on how delicious it was. Upon receiving my horchata drink refill, I noticed that my drink topping was not cinnamon, it looked more like roach legs. My cousin that was having lunch with me freaked out and threw up on the table. The waitress immediately came over and asked what was wrong. I showed her my roach horchata drink. I could tell she was embarrased, I then ran outside and threw up too. After that I went back inside the waitress offered me a canned pepsi for relief. I told her, we are not paying for this meal and left the restaurant.

I work near Chinatown and Los Compadres is one of my favorites! I often eat there more than once a week. I have recommended it to friends and have driven there on my days off work just to eat there. Warning, parking is hard to come by. The restaurant is a traditional Hole-in-the-wall small business, so don’t expect the Taj Mahal. Still, the food tastes great, the portion sizes are generous, and the prices are pleasantly low. Best of all, the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is comfortable. It deserves 5-stars by my criteria!

First review on Unilocal and it goes to :drum roll: Los Compadres! I live around the corner from this place. I’ve biked, driven, and walked passed it a million times but always thought it looked sketchy so I never went in, damn was I wrong. I was super broke and in a rush yesterday so I decided to stop in and ordered two pastor tacos. As the dude is doing his thing on the grill, I see him pour some extra juice or flavor or something, I don’t know exactly what is was but I got a little excited. I was happy that when my two tacos came, they were hanging out with a side of fresh crispy tortillas. I was on a budget so my broke pockets and empty tummy were rejoicing. That first bite just punched me in the mouth with flavor like BLAOW. I can’t really tell if it was greasy or juicy but it was definitely good and the salsa was kickin’. Now when I like a place, I like a place! So I actually went back this morning for the second day in a row and ordered two chorizo tacos. It was a different dude choppin it up behind the counter but he was cool, seeing that my bike was just leaning against the window outside he told me «bring it in, its more better»! Anyway, my chorizo tacos come out, scarf down the first, then as this huge family comes in to sit down I think to myself… I just found my new favorite hole in the wall Mexican joint and its been here the whole time. I actually wish it was open right now and I already know i’m going for the 3rd consecutive day tomorrow morning to try their breakfast, like that!

Stopped by this place on my way to go see Vicente Fernandez for my b-day. The food here is really good. I ordered the wet carne asada burrito and I enjoyed every bite. Or maybe was it cause I was buzzing it? hmm… oh well. I was satisfied.

Near the Metro Link station this is a great place to eat. It is not a huge restaurant but they have enough seating, a restroom and parking spaces outside. The service is good and not generic. They had lovely religious decoration. I loved their strawberry milkshake with had real strawberries and milk. Their beef tacos were very good as was their beef caldo soup. I will have to come back and try their Jamaica, fruit drinks and other Mexican food menu items.

***My favorite Mexican restaurant*** For an arsenal of reasons, Los Compadres, I am giving you my 200th review. Spanish-speaking families are passing steaming plates to one another. Vaqueros are removing their cowboy hats before ordering their morning breakfast and coffee. Slim fashionistas are making good use of their office lunch breaks with colorful salads and fresh-fruit drinks. And Me? I am here, I am smiling. Los Compadres has situated herself where you can hear the city’s heart beating. Only a couple steps away from the birthplace of Los Angeles, Olivera street, Chinatown and Union Station. Since every public transit line in the county ends up at Union station, it is as if every road is trying desperately to end up fork-in-hand here. Whether you are saving the planet using public transportation, or you are taking advantage of the UNHEARD of FREE parking in downtown LA,(yes, you read that right) Compadres makes it easy for us to get close to her. Los Compadres, literally means, the co-family, the Godfathers, friends, companions. When you dine away from home, are you looking for a place to wear your fanciest threads? Are you searching for«the scene»? Do you frequent the Hollywood Starbucks script-in-hand hoping to be «discovered»? Don’t enter. Have you ever longed to sit at a loving family table? Have you ever wanted to sit in the kitchen while family secrets were simmering on the stove? Do you love to see finger paintings attached to the refrigerator? The smell of Grandmother’s chicken soup? This is for you. Candles are burning beside a statue of African Jesus. Paintings of the Virgin, and other treasures of faith watch over the restaurant dutifully. It would be unfair to match Los Compadres with words like«dive» or «hole in the wall». Dinner at your beloved abuela’s might not be the dinner at the Ritz, but there is still no place you would rather be, is there? I come here on the weekends via train after listening to the Andean flute player’s free concert at the historic Pueblo De Los Angeles monument just a few steps away. I’ll order the birria de chivo(stewed goat) if it is a cool day.(too many stars to count) Seco de chivo(goat stew) is a nostalgic dish to my Ecuadorian ancestors. Sadly, it is traditionally made with beer and I am therefore allergic. Our Mexican brothers and sisters make incredible birria. Especially here, my favorite in LA. The HUGE bowl(two meals) of brick-red broth filled with slow cooked, fall-off-the-bone tender goat, is served with herbs, onions, limes, homemade salsa, tortillas and rice.($ 6.50) The broth. Is decadent, rich, intense, remarkable. Achiote, garlic, chocolate, thyme and secret spices, love being one of them. The broth is so thick, it will cling to your spoon like Linus to his blanket. The tacos. Are fresh, substantial and well-seasoned. Order two tacos for the measly sum of one dollar each. The tacos will be served on a plate with a fresh salad comprised of lettuce, tomatoes, nopales(diced cactus) lemon and salt. What is good? The asada, carnitas. lengua, and birria.(my favorite) You might be offered a warm squeeze bottle of salsa made with roasted chillies and charred fire-cooked tomatoes. The guaraches. Large grilled yellow corn patties, about the size of Subway’s 6 incher. In the shape of a boat, they are covered with fresh vegetables, avocado and cream. A favorite of the health-conscious locals. But wait! You thought that all Mexican food was unhealthy? Deep fried? Maxed out on lard like most of American food? Nope. You are confused by Americanized Mexican food. I have yet to see«nachos» on a menu in all of my travels of Mexico. Strawberries and milk with a chicken taco and salad. Soothing weekend soups with an aguas frescas. Scrambled eggs with a café con leche. Morning noon and night, no matter what you are in the mood for, they have it here. Because I have seen many-a-family sharing a bowl of soup or stew and a plate of tacos. Because I know that the bowls run $ 6.50 and the tacos(huge salad included) are only one dollar each, breakfast(or brunch to the mayo lovers) $ 5 with coffee, I am warmed by knowing that a family can eat here for under $ 15 total. The solo diner can make out of here for one to two dollars. The bargain here? One million stars.:-) If you are dear to me, I might have brought you here or at least begged you to come. With or without me! *waves at Chris E., Vince V., Daniel L., David V. and Adam K.* In May, we are reminded of the Dia Del Madre(Mother’s Day). Los Compadres is a place to sit at a loving family table. In the kitchen while family secrets are simmering on the stove. Finger paintings attached to the refrigerator. The smell of Grandmother’s chicken soup. The feel of home and family. Los Compadres is my favorite Mexican restaurant. *For an arsenal of reasons.

An average hole in the wall Mexican eatery. If you’re craving Mexican and you’re working downtown, this is a place to check out. There’s nothing fancy about the layout. A few tables and no apparent air conditioning, but pretty clean. The prices are very modest, and a burrito and half liter of Mexican cola will only set you back $ 6.50.

I came into this place freshly back from Mexico(literally had gotten off the plane late the night before) and with a Spanish speaking tongue ready for the unleashing. I went the normal, most obvious route… «Hola! Coma Esta?» «Bien! Y tu?» «Muy bien, muy bien!» I followed by ordering my taco’s in spanish, as well as asking her about the pastor(which I ordered) that was advertised as on a spit, or «trompo,» out on their sign. She could tell I was a baby rookie in spanish, so I explained that I had just come off the airplane the night before from Cancun, and how I mobbed deep to Isla Mujeres, Tulum and Playa Del Carmen. I told her the reason I’m speaking spanish is because I want to be able to order taco’s better :) She smiled and went on about how she’s learning English at the adult school up the street, so she could serve taco’s better. hahah, good times. She must have liked me because I straight up got the VIP treatment. How you say? Let’s just say she didn’t give me the pastor that had been cooked earlier in the morning and was sitting in a heat pan. She went straight for a little fridge and pulled out freshly marinated pastor that was sitting in a little tupperware and threw it on the grill. Did you hear what I said? I said she straight up got the REAL shit outta the VIPSECTION and cooked my food FRESHTOORDER. Hot off the fucking grill, straight into my buddha belly. I think she marinated this pastor in some magical sauce and kept it cold in some sort of wizards fridge, then cooked it on a sorcerers stove, because everything about these taco’s were magic. Pro’s –Friendly mom’s and pop’s service –Pastor on spit in the AM thru lunchtime –If you’re friendly enough, she might give you the VIP treat Con’s –Ninguno(none)
