Nice courts by Griffith Park. Courts are free after 7 on Sundays. The complex is clean but the courts need to be resurfaced.

Brent runs LA Tennis. My kids started taking lessons with Brent about 10 months ago. He’s a great teacher and amazing with the kids — makes them laugh but also teaches them skills and discipline. Brent and his instructors teach at Vermont Canyon, which is a gorgeous location in Griffith Park, as well as the less gorgeous but perfectly fine Riverside courts. Our kids have been playing for less than a year and they have really improved and are loving tennis. We recently had some strangers come up to us and ask «are those your kids? they’re really good.» Nice to see the investment pay off!

This is the place for tennis lessons!
LA Tennis has instructors at Griffith Park Riverside and Vermont tennis courts. I take lessons from the director, Brent Pettersson, who runs cool group-​clinic classes in the evenings and weekend mornings, plus private lessons.
There’s a great regular crew of tennis players of all ages in the classes and it has been the best way for me to meet new players. Brent has a fun in-​your-​face new-​york attitude and keeps the classes exciting and fast-​paced. I had to work my way into some of the more advanced groups but there are classes for all levels.
If you come to class, we all get nicknames, so you will know me as Big Foot. See you there.
