I thought the pie was pretty good, in spite of being in LA where they put Pineapple and Jalapeño on pizza. But I’m a pizza snob because I make my own. And«Waaaaaaa» to those that gave this place a bad rating because they don’t have a vegan option. Pizza is not suppose to be vegan or gluten free. I take my hat off to these guys for bowing down to the hippies and hipsters.

I went here with some colleagues at lunch and was surprised when the man behind the counter answered«no» when I asked if they had a vegan option on the menu. In LA that is a surprise — there are over 100 vegan restaurants in LA County, so I am obviously not the only one. I will notify my several thousand vegan friends and acquaintances via social media that LA New York pizza has no interest in their business or their money. This isn’t Mississippi, it is California. Change with the times.

I cant believe a place in LA that does not have any vegan options! I just moved from Colorado and even there most pizza places would offer Daiya or other plant based cheese. I know there are plenty of 100% vegan restaurants in LA but there are also enough vegan people around LA to give or take business from places like this one without any vegan options. Its sad to know that there are still places in LA with no cruelty-free options! Muy mal!

I love it. Closest to the OG New York style pizza(the greasy, $ 1 slice variety) that I’ve found in the DTLA area.

I just moved here from New York and I can honestly say this was the WORST f’in pizza i’ve EVERHAD. EVER. I honestly dont know how this place has good ratings. The sauce was too sweet, the cheese sucked. I never thought pizza could taste terrible but. Wow.

Best pizza by the slice place in downtown, plus their sicilian slice is the best I’ve had anywhere, if you get it, make sure you get it re-heated for an extra crisp.

Once upon a time, in 1985, this was the best pizza in LA bar none. It was next to my office and I ate the pizza for many years, and then the ownership changed. I see some new reviews that state that owners have again changed so I might walk the 10 blocks to check this out. I last came here about a year ago, good but not like it used to be.

This place has really gotten awesome under its new management. The pizza crust is crisp and chewy, and they put plenty of real, gooey mozzarella on top. I love that they always have about 7 – 8 pizza varieties ready to buy by-the-slice. They even replaced their dinky old soda machine with one of those rad choose-your-flavor-combination dealios. And they’re one of the few places in the area that will admit to having a restroom. I go here almost every Saturday during my lunch break at work since most eateries in the Financial District are closed on the weekend. It’s about $ 7 for 2 slices, a bag of chips, and a soda.

Came during lunch time(12:10PM) and they didn’t have a lot of variety out yet. Ended up getting the fresh out-of-the oven pepperoni slice with a fountain drink for $ 4. The slice is actually pretty small. Definitely not a NY pizza size slice… like half of that. Anyway, the crust and sauce was good but the pepperoni was really, really salty. I don’t even mind the grease, it is pizza after all and they had plenty of napkins for me to blot out the grease but again, that pepperoni was way too salty. I’d come here again for a quick lunch since they’re literally just downstairs from me, but next time, I’m getting the individual slices instead… no pepperoni.

Good New York Style pizza but absolutely horrible service! The female cashier practically snipped off my fingers! SORUDE!!! My gosh… I feel sorry for her, she must be a very unhappy and insecure person.

My bad, should have gotten more than one slice — can’t do that if I haven’t decided if I liked it yet or not though. But it was good! I don’t have high expectations for pizza so this was perfect. The only suggestion — make the slices larger! If it’s NY style, I kind of expect that one slice to be hefty enough for my liking — but I’m still hungry. The fact that I want to go back to get another slice(even though I’m too lazy to actually do it) means that I’d eat there again. Good crust, good cheese. Yum.

Awesome new york style pizza. And I had Lamonicas before Although I do miss LaMonica’s, this pizza right here is crispy light flaky and just pure bliss, accompanied by a New Castle, it is the bee’s knee’s. i did like the selection even at closing time, i think i got the owner to serve me, he was a cool guy.

Oh Hell this place is awesome. When I worked in DTLA I loved coming here. The pizza is just bad ass and just the way I like it. Crispy bottom and the sause used is insanely good. I miss coming here and eating so if your fortunate enough to be in the area, try this place!

This is great pizza. I go here for lunch at least once or twice a month. My big appetite leads me to(usually) have two regular slices and a slice of the Sicilian pizza. After that I am DEFINITELY stuffed for the rest of the day. The Sicilian meat lover pizza has like an entire pig on it – in a good way of course. It has pepperoni, sausage, and ham on it. Most places I’ve had make it kind of doughy and even undercooked. I’ve never run across that here. Another good combination is the jalapeño and crumbled chorizo. Try it. The pizza sauce is rich and flavorful. Its the backbone of their pizza. Most times I go, which is around noon, there is almost always a wide selection of pizzas available by the slice. A co-worker of mine and I went recently and we decided that it was more economical to get a whole pizza. Unfortunately, that was a bit of a mistake. It is definitely geared more towards serving individual slices for the lunch crowd. We waited an awfully long time for our pizza. Wasn’t really feasible for a lunch hour. In their defense though, I don’t think this is their typical way of serving their pizzas. I’ve never seen anyone order a whole pizza before in eight years of happlily patronizing this place.

definitely go between 11am — 12:30pm when the sicilian is coming out of the oven. Beat all the suits if not you’ll be eating the thin slices. Two sicilian slices and you’re done for the day.

I ordered a slice of sausage($ 2) and the pizza was rough. It was thin like NY pizza but it was hard and brittle. It had the texture and taste of a cold slice Domino’s pizza, but with better sausage. The crust was crunchy and the sauce was from a tomato can. At least it tasted that way. I think the piece I was served sat out for a while. Although they did heat it up in the oven, it didn’t help much. The funny thing is, I actually liked the pizza. I’ve always liked cold and a day old pizza. I even enjoy the frozen Celeste junk I have in my fridge at home. It was kind of like that. I’d go back again but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this place… unless you truly like frozen pizza.

I can’t really compare this to a NY Pizza since I haven’t had one yet. I’ll be sure to try a slice the next time I’m in the Empire state. In the meantime, this place is great. You walk in and choose your pizza for either dine-in or take-out. There’s a variety of pizzas from slices to the deep dish kind. Sometimes they have happy hour specials for $ 5(? — something like that) for two slices & a drink. I don’t know if they have a schedule of what kind they make, but I usually get 2 slices — a pesto, chicken pizza and a hawaiian. I once had the chorizo, and that was really good. I haven’t seen it since. Next to Costco pizza, this place is the second cheapest for great tasting pizzas!

Really… authentic NY pizza… really? Crust was too thick, cheese is chewy… is it really cheese? I ordered one slice and couldn’t eat it. I had the vegetarian but my SO had the chorizo and the pepperoni. He said his was 2 stars. Mine was definitely 1 star. Really? Yeah it’s cheap but… really? You guys are crazy if you think this is good pizza. Really! [reviewed in «Really with Seth and Amy» on SNL style]

2.5 stars, if I could. With twenty minutes until the start of the Pillow Fight in nearby Pershing Square, my friend and I walked into the first pizza joint we saw for a slice. The sign in the window said New York Pizza, so we figured we’d get a giant slice to get our strength up We walked in and the woman behind the counter was on the phone. For about five minutes. Without so much as looking at us as we stood there and looked at her. I immediately realized that not only were the slices dinky for a NY style place, but they didn’t have any cheese pizza. WTF? How do you NOT have cheese pizza slices??? The places I usually go to ONLY have cheese– they throw toppings on when they reheat the slices. So a man comes out of the back. I see that they have one sad, stale-looking slice of mushroom and I tell him that while I wanted cheese, I would take that mushroom one. He picked it up with the spatula, turned around and accidentally dropped it on the ground. Seeing the color of my face change from red(slightly annoyed) to purple(ready to eat your babies if you don’t feed me pizza), the man then offered to MAKE a cheese pizza. Too hungry to hit the unfamiliar streets of downtown, we waited for the cheese slices. Sure, they were cheap at $ 2 a pop, but this wasn’t exactly good pizza. It was about half the size of the $ 3 slice I’ve had at a hundred other places, and nothing about it was memorable except for its minuscule size. Final thought: eh. I’m not mad about spending $ 2, but I certainly wouldn’t consider this place again.
