I’d ignore previous poor reviews. It’s ran down?.. it’s an active gym. What do you expect?.. marble floors and chandeliers? It looks how it should. It has more kids than adults and you’re uncomfortable… so what, part of being a beginner at anything is having a little discomfort. Now on to why I give this club 5 stars. The coaches appear to be experts and our passionate about teaching. Erick was happy to explain some of the basics to me in between classes. I needed a little help with fencing as I’m playing a character who grew up as a fencer. Misha, the owner, went out of his way to help me and even went as far as to lend me an épée and mask. I asked if I could leave cash or some sort of collateral and Misha said I can borrow it on trust. If I know anyone looking for lessons or a club, this is where I’ll send them. Thank you Misha and LA Fencing!

Shady, dishonest staff. Was hit by an employee in their company car who then lied to the insurance company about the accident.

The coach right there are VERY impolite! I booked one coach for only a 20 mins training a week ago. When I drove 2hrs there, the front desk told me the coach has emergency. I later found out he was still in the center coaching somebody else. I was wondering if he had emergency, should he notice me by HIMSELF for courtesy. He was just lying to me! He was coaching other student, he did not have emergency!!! I will not go to this center anymore! The behavior is NOTACCEPTABLE!

I always wanted to try out fencing, but I don’t think this is the right environment for beginners. The venue is old and run-down, but more importantly, it is populated by children. Yeah, okay, I get it. An adult beginner fencer isn’t probably that common. But it made me feel really uncomfortable to have so few adults participating. I left pretty quickly. It’s probably pretty good if you’re looking to register your children though!

For the fencing experienced: Daily Floor Fee: $ 20 Monthly Membership: $ 85 That being said, I firmly disagree with some of the past reviews of this place saying that LAIFC has«few to no experienced foil fencers». As someone who has been fencing in the area for the past 9 years, I can tell you with full confidence that you won’t find any venue with more experienced foil/épée fencers as well as coaches. The venue itself is getting a little older, but they do have a pulley/suspension system so the reels and wires actually run through the ceiling, like most of the nicer fencing centers. Other than that, there are about 10 – 20 strips available at all times, and there are almost always people to fence regardless of day of the week, as long as you go during normal business hours. While the fencers here are both very good and relatively friendly, I wouldn’t recommend this place to start fencing just because the coaches ARE used to dealing with much more experienced fencers, and probably won’t want to coach lower level fencers. Also, there probably aren’t too many brand new fencers, so you won’t be able to progress with a group of other fencers like you might be able to at other fencing centers. Other places around the area you might want to check out are Beverly Hills Fencing Club and Fortune Fencing in Monrovia if you are trying to get started :)

I came to this club after having moved to LA after I fenced for 15 years+. I had taken a few years off, and decided to fence again at age 28. I was disappointed to find that there were very few or no experienced foil fencers in my age group or older. The club is dominated by young boys, and despite returning several times, I never found more than 1 or 2 adults. While the younger kids are skilled, I found that their manners were unsportsmanlike at best. For example, one wouldn’t shake my hand after we fenced because he had lost. Another argued against a call to the point where the coaches had to tell him to stop. There was no order to who was fencing whom, and it was difficult to even get someone to fence against because either I was older(in my 20s) or new. These are just a few examples. I would certainly not recommend this club for experienced foil fencers, and wouldn’t introduce kids to it either if they are exposed to unsportsmanlike conduct like this constantly. As someone who has loved fencing her entire life, who competed at an international level, and who captained a Div-1 champion fencing team in college, I was extremely disappointed. I chose to not fence at all rather than return here.

Came for a groupon here, and was pleasantly surprised to find this«underground» feeling world of fencing going full force. The building itself seems to serve many purpposes, with fencing, gymnastics, muay thai, and many other banners hanging over the door. It is, after all, just a giant warehouse, perfect for sports lessons just like this. The parking lot fills up quickly, but there’s plently of street parking on the street behind the school. The classes we took were beginner foil classes, and were taught from the basics. They have gear to borrow, so no need to worry about having enough. Instructors were UCSD’s fencing team, many of whom had been fencing for more than 10 years. They really knew their stuff, but as students, they were still super chill and very friendly. They were not shy about helping us learn the basics, but still wanted us to have a good time, and let us stay ~20−30 minutes after the class was over just practicing. And, in case you are wondering, it’s defintely a work out, but super fun!
