Note to future self: If ever in need of LMU gear, do yourself the favor of visiting the campus during Winter break. In need of some LMU-emblazened items to sport during an upcoming Alumni event(dressing the part of an overenthusiastic school-spiriter really breaks the ice with older Alumni that hold those elusive networking ties), I was ecstatic to hear that the Bookstore updated their recorded message to include their Christmas hours(no «holidays hours» found around here; it’s all about mad love for Little Baby Jesus) and days they would be closed. Not only did I not have to run over any undergrads, the winter break meant that the gate attendant gave me unofficial permission to «just park anywhere.» Although I was tempted to park sideways across three handicap spots, I figured it would feel almost as rebellious to just leave the Prius in the clearly marked loading zone behind Von der Ahe. This being my first visit since the move from Malone, I was quite impressed. Although the higher ceiling was the first thing I noticed, there was much more inventory than I remember and I was even asked if I needed any help. I will say that I didn’t think I would see so much stuff available for women in the range of XS-M. I suppose they know their niche pretty well. I had a five-star experience all around, but I still hold a grudge for their insistence that their prices are, in any way, reasonable.

Too bad Unilocal doesn’t have a minus five star rating. Don’t buy anything here unless you absolutely have to. This place is a tricky rip-off bookstore that specializes in stealing money from gullible undergraduates. I am a visually impaired student with learning disabilities and I have to buy two textbooks for each class: one to be digitized, so it can be changed to audio format, and one to mark and annotate. Last semester my wires got crossed somehow and I wound up with four textbooks for one class. When I brought two of them back(still in the bag with receipt) never been opened or touched; the LMU Bookstore would not return my purchase amount or even give me a store credit… I was so shocked and angry I just left the books there and told them I didn’t have any use for them or their bookshop. Second experience, if you ever buy any Apple products there and want Apple Care remember to keep your proof of purchase because Apple will require you to scan it into a pdf file and fill out other forms before you can obtain coverage… it’s better just to buy Apple products at Apple… no hassle. The only reason to buy anything for any reason at the LMU Bookstore is if you want LMU gear(tee-shirts, sweat-shirts etc.)…they really suck bad.

This is the main bookstore at Loyola Marymount. If you need LMU gear, textbooks, Apple gear, and snacks, this is the place to get that. It’s located in the bottom floor of the Van der Ahe building. Yeah, this place is smaller than other university bookstore, but they still have everything a college student needs. My biggest complaint is the lines during the beginning and end of every semester. Seriously, I waited 45 minutes one time to buy a couple text books. Even when the line becomes super long, they never open all the registers. Grrr! Tips: –Check other places for textbook prices before you buy books here. While most of the textbooks here will be overpriced, every once in a while, they will be cheaper here. –Want to avoid the lines? Come here within two hours of opening.
