(Snacked 7÷01÷12SU @ 4:45pm): One of many shops located inside the Grand Central Market, we simply couldn’t resist the sweet smell and our love for Mexican pastries! After my friend and I attended Unilocal’s Grand Summer Elite Event, we decided to roam the streets of downtown Los Angeles and got to the heart of our city of Angels. We walked into the eclectic and budget-saving Grand Central Market to feed a boba craving(which we did at Yogurt Factory), but right next to them was La Adelita 6… and I swear someone was fanning the scent of their pastries in our direction! We took the Angels Flight Railway down to the Grand Central Market and initially roamed among the many businesses inside in search of boba and introduced my friend to this wonderful place. We got our boba, but we were soon attracted by the sliding windows which displayed beautiful pastries. We entered and slowly walked from one window to next nearly salivating from one to the next. It was like the Red Light District in Amsterdam — snack porn! Mind you, we just ate at the Unilocal event, and we were still sharing a large boba drink! All sense of reasoning was thrown out the window. We approached the counter and asked for a platter and tongs so we can gather more treats. Ultimately, we selected four different pastries(about $ 3.00). All was placed into paper bags and we were off to later enjoy our sweets. Now, La Adelita 6 also served agua frescas and food, too, so another visit would have to be a must! We eventually halved each one and devoured each(later we regretted that as we were really stuffed at that point!). The one with the brown sugar on top was our favorite(anything with brown sugar is great)! The«yellow bread» was our second favorite, followed by one that had some white on it, and our least favorite was the zinger-looking one(that one had a odd after taste). Yeah, we don’t know the actual names, we just like to eat them! All were sweet and fresh to eat. The service was great as the woman who helped us instantly greeted us and checked us out quickly. There was one other customer before us. Parking is ample, whether it’s on the street, garages, or lots. We parked inside the California Plaza structure for the Unilocal event, but I would recommend one of the many lots, which range between $ 5.00-$ 10.00. You can try your luck with the streets(I noticed meters but don’t know if they are in play on the weekend), but you may get frustrated. Overall, La Adelita 6 was a wonderful find for the both of us. I’ve grown up on these pastries my whole life and my friend only recently on some traveling we’ve done together. The simplicity yet tastiness of these pastries was just amazing. I found very good value as noted by the prices I quoted above(total bill was around $ 3.00 before tip). The atmosphere was like any other Mexican panaderia, except they served more than just pastries. They are located right next to Yogurt Factory and Grand Central Liquor. Attire is completely casual, so I was in boardshorts, a t-shirt, and flip-flops. I will have to knock them a full star because they accepted only cash; therefore, they didn’t accept my credit card of choice… AMEX!

Not bad. We ordered CHICKENSOUP($ 3 for a small): Super great deal. The chicken soup was flavorful. The chicken was moist, the vegetables were plentiful. came with tortillas, cilantro, and onion… FOR $ 3. great deal!

I’d be ok if I never came here again. I came here for the tres eches cake. Now the taste is on board, but the consistency of the leche was not as thick as I prefer. My Bo had the chocolate mousse cake and that was average, but not bad. We purchased a strawberry and banana smoothie that had a sherbety taste, but we saw them put real banana in it. At the end of the day this another place that sells Mexican baked goods, nothing really stood out to me, but it was ok.

For the longest time I’ve been telling my friends about the idea of mixing Asian boba with Mexican aguas frescas. They usually responded with excitement, but no one seemed to be taking this particular idea seriously. Finally, I was taking a stroll at the Grand Central Market and saw this Mexican food stand with a sign that says, «Can Add Boba to Any Drinks.» With the wide selection of aguas frescas stacked on their counter, my dream was about to come true after years of searching for boba frescas. This Mexican food stand is one of the largest at the Grand Central Market. It has a sizable bakery section that sells pan dulce of all sorts. It also offers a diverse assortment of aguas frescas and smoothies, followed by a long steam table filled with a variety of soups, moles, and stews. I was here with fellow Unilocalers David V, Jay B, his wife Wen, and Vince V. We tried their Vanilla and Chocolate Concha(50 cents each) that arrived humongous, fresh, sweet, fluffy, and easy to cut into. As a personal preference, I always seem to like the Vanilla Concha as the sugary soft spongy buttery texture made my 50 cents worthwhile. Carbs are a great way to start the day and I can eat these all day long! I also ordered the Costilla de Puerco en Salsa Verde($ 4.50) that included Spanish rice and corn tortillas. This dish was put together with chunky pork ribs with a mix of lean and fatty parts, slippery cactus, and green salsa that added depth to the savory tangy flavor. There were a few dry spots on the ribs but I especially enjoyed mixing the cactus and green salsa with the Spanish rice. I thought the corn tortillas were dry and boring, and wished that this dish had included refried beans to complete the meal. More importantly, my large big gulp Sandia y Melon Frescas with Boba($ 3.25) was excellent. I wished there were more bobas as the textures were nice soft and chewy. The combination of half and half watermelon-cantaloupe frescas really hit the spot. Service was fast and friendly. Food wise, this is probably not the best food stand at the Grand Central Market, but the combination of pan dulce, boba frescas, and overall affordability made them worth the visit. They also accepts EBT for those who needed it. I would love to return to try the«necktie» pan dulce, Boba Horchata and other possible combination of Chino-Latino boba drinks.

During the cold weather, try the beef stew(Caldo de Res). A small bowl is just $ 3.50. It comes with vegetables and some tortillas. The service is good and they take credit cards if you spend over $ 5. They also make fresh squeezed juices while you wait. Try a Vampiro(vampire) drink, which is a mix of fruits and vegetables including beets and carrots. Skip the pastries, they look fine but they taste just ok.

ooo… fresh horchata! agua frescas in more flavors that i have ever seen in my life. unfortunately, there is only one of me and 10 of them so i opted for the horchata. light and refreshing, it hit the spot right away. way better than the olé! stuff that most mexican places serve. get the real stuff! and…i found bionicos! however, even though their sign says they have different flavors, only strawberry banana was available(bum #1). it was pre-made too(bum #2). while it was still quite delicious, the fruit was drenched in cream(looked like a parfait) so it became way to sweet after the first couple of bites(bum #3). lastly, i got all banana with 4 slivers of strawberry on top so it wasn’t quite worth the $ 4.50(bum #4). did i complain a lot? i didn’t try any of the baked goods, but the cornbread smelled delicious, fresh out of the oven. yes, i found this place because i follwed the baker with the cornbread. overall, skip the bionicos and head straight for the agua frescas and the baked goods. ok, i’m done rambling. have a lovely day =)
