Best pie in Los Angeles. Granted, that doesn’t mean much, given what generally passes for pie in LA. But the pies here really are excellent. The crust – the most important part of a pie, which for some reason every other pie shop in LA neglects – is great: flaky, slightly crunchy but not too firm, a little bit salty. I haven’t tried the pecan pie, so I can’t speak to that. But the fruit pies are all delicious, especially the triple berry Cabernet.

Hands down the best Pie in LA. We had an excellent peach pie when it was in season. The triple berry Cabernet is also delicious. I have tried a variety of her savoury hand pies and every single one was amazing.

I’m all for small businesses and after seeing the owner spam the hell out of a local facebook group(she doesn’t «USESOCIALMEDIA» like she claims below — she only posts daily about her pies… oh, and one time to gain sympathy when her house was supposedly broken into. Thank God everyone with a small business doesn’t use SM that way. But I digress. None of this matters when my pregnant sister visited and wanted some pie.) I didn’t know where else to get pie except Ralph’s. And when you want pie, you don’t want Ralph’s. My review is for the Southern Pecan Pie. I wish I’d read Lidiya’s review first. The photos the owner posts on the group look AMAZEBALLS. Unfortunately, the pie was saltyBALLS. And dry. It had pecans in it is the best thing I can say, I suppose. When a pregnant sister doesn’t finish a pie, you know it’s bad. I rarely leave one-star reviews but pass. We ended up going with Ralph’s cheesecake. It’s surprisingly good.

Know Reality Pie had one of the longest lines at the Odd Night at the Autry. The couple running the food truck were clearly passionate about pie and very friendly. They were happy to chat up customers even though there was a long line. There was an exhausting(and hard to read) list of pies available, from coconut custard, to southern pecan, to salted caramel, to peach raspberry, to lemon blueberry, to fig and prosciutto. People literally would get to the front of the line and go «I don’t know, you pick for me.» We waited about five minutes. The guy running orders must have felt bad for us because the person in front of me and I got a free sample of the coconut custard chocolate pie(very sweet and very tasty). I had decided to go with a peach raspberry custard pie. The pie came with a whipped cream top and was a good size for $ 6. The slices of peach were fresh, not frozen, and were in large chunks. I kind of wish there wasn’t whipped cream and custard — the dairy ended up being more memorable than the fruit. The pie crust is solid. Perhaps I’ll try another flavor next time.

The hubs and I are always on a quest for good pie and it’s surprisingly hard to find. I prefer fruit pies and the hubs loves a good crust, so usually we’re left disappointed wherever we go. Fast forward to Sunday when we decided to hit up Meea’s for some seriously delicious hot dogs, and while we’re outside we notice that there’s a pie stand! Know Reality as a name doesn’t garner images of pies, but the pictures on the truck sure do. The lady(didn’t get her name), bakes all of the pies on Friday and sells them all day Saturday and Sunday. There’s a sign on Colorado, but if you’re not looking for it, you can miss it. We got lucky because she had a few pieces left when we finished lunch, so we scooped up the Triple Berry-Cherry Cabernet and the Strawberry Crumble. The berry pie was seriously chock full of berries and cherries, and wasn’t overly sweet. I would have preferred a bit more tartness, but the crust and freshness of the berries still made it delicious. I had a bite of the strawberry crumble pie and it was cold, fresh, bright, and perfect. I loved it. The crumble was a great compliment to the strawberries and it was everything I wanted in a pie and more. It’s $ 6 for a slice and the slices are really generous. We’ve already made plans to come back next Saturday and I can’t wait to try all of the other innovative flavors.

I love pie. I’m the Dean Winchester of the west coast. And I’m always seeking out good pecan pie, which is my fucking white whale travesty. So, naturally, I see pie and I want it. And this place made some grand promises. I don’t normally go for cheesy advertising, but it seemed like the gentleman outside of the truck was really earnest in his speech. 100% passionate about the product and the woman who bakes it. The pies looked spectacular on display inside the window, so I couldn’t argue that. I looped back around to the pie truck after placing my order for a proper meal. While waiting in line, I noticed the gentleman taking photos of the patrons. Not my jam, really. But he’s clearly trying to spread the word and get some good press from the happy customers. I was offered champagne in line, which really jazzed up the waiting experience. A+ on that. I got a slice of salted caramel tart for my friend, a slice of pecan pie for myself, and my other friend got one of the berry pies. Salted Caramel Tart: right off the bat, my friend got a giant chunk of salt and was totally put off. I couldn’t really taste the caramel or the salt – just chocolate. It was alright, but not what I expected at all. Berry Pie: easily the best one, but possibly only because it was the one with ice cream on it(which comes free if you get a slice at Street Food Cinema nights). Perhaps because it’s a traditional pie it had a better structure to it, but this was definitely the way to go. Southern Bourbon Pecan Pie: eh. A big eh. Basic crust formula(slightly salty and buttery), pecan pie filling mushy and kind of bland(and no Bourbon or sweetness detected). I was so crushed. I didn’t even eat most of it. I feel so bad saying this because I really liked both of the people running the truck. But the food just didn’t do it for me at all. I’m convinced that there is no good pecan pie in the southwest. This just further makes me sad. Someone find me a good pie, because I’m still on the hunt!

We tried ‘em out at Street Food Cinema. All were delicious; Triple Berry, Caramel Apple Pecan, Coconut Crème, but my fav was the Strawberry Rhubarb good.

Delicious! Tried the mango apricot hand pie, pecan, banana cream, and the ice cream apple caramel. All were incredibly tasty and not too rich. Pecan was the favorite.
