Typically I wouldn’t rate any pizza as bad since its so simple to make but unfortunately this place isn’t good. I wouldn’t recommend it and this will be the last time I eat here. The salad although is delicious and the baked potatoes are ok. Don’t try this place.

After seeing that this place had only 3 reviews(and negative ones at that) I have decided to intercede as a satisfied customer. The one time I went to Johnnie’s, I was starving, slightly broke, and looking for a decent and quick meal. I ordered plate of lobster ravioli pasta(the special) and a really good Mediterranean salad that was pretty large for the price(and compared to Los Angeles’ typical high prices). I enjoyed my food and I would eat there again. This place may be cheap, and the décor might not super-fancy, but the food is pretty good and the waitstaff was helpful and attentive. If you are in the area, and you are looking for a quite bite, don’t cross this place off your list.

I love Pizza! Absolutely love the Wilshire Station for lunch time! :) Great walking distance for work, woohoo!!! For $ 7.60, I got the special: Any Two Pizza Slices with Free Soda, and when you work in any part of DTLA to Koreatown, it definitely gets pricey! I got the Original Pepperoni Pizza and White Pie: Spinach and Mozzerrella. Creamy and zesty, and not too oily. Generous slice portions, and ended up using a fork and knife. Yes, that’s right! Didn’t wanna get my hands dirty. Surprisingly, I was full thoroughout the rest of the work hour, and didn’t hit that 3PM post lunch jag, woohoo! There’s also a Salad by Design, Samurai Sam? and Great Steak Escape joint in there too. Ample seating and unlimited refills on our drinks. Though the only thing that sucks is the restroom — they have special coins for the ladies. Just remember to get a coin before leaving with your food order.

The pizza cart outside, while inexpensive, is also cheap, tends to have lousy, small and withered slices. Inside, the service is poor, the staff somewhat mindless and, well, it just doesn’t cut it. Owing to the water in L.A.(NYC pizza tastes the way it does because of the water from the Catskills), there will never be true New York pizza in Los Angeles. However, this place could learn a lesson or two from, say, Ray’s on St. Mark’s, where about 10 people are served in the same time it takes one of Johnnie’s employees to even acknowledge a customer. I think I have missed three Red Line trains just trying to get a slice.(That is about 18 – 20 minutes for you non-straphangers.)

Yucky yucky yuck… I will never order anything from here again… while my friend was giving the make your own salad lady a hard time… I decided to order the special. Spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread with drink for under $ 6.00 I should have canceled it when I saw her throw my pasta in the microwave to «cook» it with hot water, just to throw it back in with the horrible meat gross balls and sauce to reheat it again in the microwave and that bread that was the size of a knife and just as thin was gross. I basically took two bites and in the trash it went. what a waste of $$$ I try not to go on Unilocal reviews, ya know have my own opinion, to each their own. I was wrong!

This place bites. I will tell you why… You can make your own salad… your choice with 4 different ingredients not including the green(which they are constantly running out of the mixed greens) 6.99 plus tax, almost $ 10 if you want meat. Which isn’t terrible but when I asked for croutons as one of my 4 choices on the side she packaged me like 3 croutons. Are you serious? The girl helping me said it was the rules they give so little. The pizza is just ok but very very greasy. They do cook it fresh though but if you order one slice of pepperoni pizza inside it will cost you $ 2.75 plus tax whereas you can get a slice of pepperoni from the street vendor(for the same place) for $ 2 no tax. It is just plain overpriced but since it’s like the only pizza place for miles that offers pizza by the slice I suppose that is why everyone is rating it higher than it should be. I give this place a big fat expensive F.

Pizza wasn’t bad… they share a place with 2 or 3 other styles of restaurants so there’s much to choose from. Good greasy pizza just the way I like it. But they usually have farmers markets in the courtyard of this place which has excellent food, so if that’s happening spend your money on the ethnic food outside. One more thing: In the courtyard there was a pizza stand with no pizza in the pans I asked the guy what was up he said he was out and he was waiting for a new batch. The sign said $ 2 slices, he directed me to the store he works for. I went in and got a slice for $ 2.74… I asked how come it was $ 2 outside and $ 2.74 inside the cashier said the ones outside are smaller. Then I saw the guy come in, grab a new box and walk back to the stand. I finished eating and went outside and was not surprised to find that the slices were the exact same size.

I went to see my friend that works here. I know he was off at 4 so I got there a little early to grab something to eat. I got my slice of pizza and a drink and proceeded to sit outside and eat. One of the partners has his parents there to yell at the employees as well as harass them. She started to ask me what I was doing there. Yes, I use to manage this place before they told me to do something illegal, I told her I was there to see my friend that works there. She asked me why. I told her we talk about once a month and I knew I was going to be in the area so I would see him after he gets off work. She kept telling me that I was not able to talk to any of her employees why they were working. I told her I know he gets off work at 4 and I would talk to him then and that I had no intention of bothering anybody while at work. She then told me that I was not allowed to speak to any of her employees at all. I told her, I can talk to anyone, anywhere as long as they were off work. She persistantly continued to bother me while I was trying to eat. She kept bothering me. After several attempts to get her to leave me alone. She proceeded to tell me that if I wanted to speak to anybody that I should speak to the owners. I don’t have anyting to say to the owners, because I was told, if I didn’t have anytihing nice to say, not to say anything at all. This place is horrible!!! They fired my friend the next day. Just because I went to see my friend. I feel so bad that this happened but this business in very serious, serious trouble… LEGALLY. So, I recommend for everybody to stay away from this place. They’re unethical and dishonest.

The servers are nice enough, but ugh, the pizza. Look, if you’re going to keep slices of pizza under a heat lamp for several hours, the least you can do is slide them in the oven for a couple of minutes after I order them to give the illusion of freshness, or at least hotness. They share the space with several other tenants, but could someone at least pop for some air conditioning? Those ridiculous swamp coolers dotting the seating area are clearly just for show. Or are they trying for an «authentic» New York in the middle an August heat wave feel? If so, may as well add the smell of urine to complete the mise-en-scene.

4-star for the red sauce fettuccine with sausage, 2-star for the pizza.

Pizza by the slice in K-Town?! I am so there! So in the vast sea of place to eat off of Wilshre, I found Johnnie’s New York Pizza in a food court at the Wilshire station. Squeezed into a corner next to Salad by Design and Samurai Sam’s Johnnie’s offers an interesting representation of New York Pizza with a California twist. Just under $ 3 a slice, I picked up a BBQ chicken and a white cheese and spinach pizza. Both came piping hot from the oven and the cheesy and greasy goodness of pizza just oozed off the dough. The BBQ chicken was pretty good and the cilantro topping evened out the zestiness of the sauce. The white pizza on the other hand was a bit more on the bland side and could have used better quality cheese to give it that pop that makes you say«mmm.» But for 6 bucks, it is not too bad, especially the sizes of the slices and them having it ready by the slice. It’s not New York or Chicago, but it is good for downtown LA on the go.

Slices are really big and full filing. Outside, you’re able to get a pizza slice for $ 2. They have cheese, mushroom and peperoni. Inside, they have good lunch deals where you’re able to mix and match for a salad and a slice with a drink. Not the best pizza but it’s good if you’re starving.

It was definitely the magic of the day, and how it was fresh out of the oven. I went to Johnnie’s again the other day, got a cheese, a pepperoni, and a white(spinach topping with white sauce instead of red). The cheese was the worst this time, definitely nowhere near as good as the day I had it during the Farmer’s Market. The pepperoni was good as long as I alternated it with the white, and vice versa. The dough wasn’t all bubbled up this time either. The thing is when you get the slices that have been sitting out, all the grease gets to the bottom of the pan and crisps up the bottom. I like a crispy bottom on a Chicago style thin crust, but not on a NY. All in all, pretty mediocre, nothing to go out of your way to have.

Okay, so I don’t really consider this place to be authentic NY pizza, but the slices are big, you can dab off the grease, and there’s a great flavor in the sauce. The cheese and supreme pizzas are darn good, and though I wanted to try the tomato basil and garlic one, they didn’t have any ready at the time. That said, they have a special where you get two slices of pizza and a small fountain drink(with free refills) for $ 5.39. If you get creative, grab a slice of pizza from Johnnie’s and a salad from Salad by Design. They share a counter. Know that you have to purchase both separately though — I’d say that was the main down side.
