The price is right and the pizza is delicious! I had a slice of the pepperoni which was just ok, but the spinach one was so yummy! It has a hint of garlic in it which I loved. I’ll definitely be getting two spinach slices next time!

Johnnie’s is an alright pizza place in the heart of downtown. I would love to give this place 4 stars, but I gots a gripe with the salad dressing. Don’t get me wrong, the daily lunch specials are great if you’re looking for a place to go to for lunch in DTLA. The employees are nice and friendly. The pizza slices are huuuuge. BUUUUT that ceasar salad dressing… nothing but garlic!!! Now, I love garlic, but not to the extent that I can kill 6 vampires just by opening my mouth. Besides the garlic overload, I’d come back again. Next time I’ll just opt for the lunch special without a salad… or get a different kind of salad/dressing.

Came here for lunch twice now. First time I got the White pizza which is AMAZING. White sauce, spinach, and cheese.(Not a fan of pepperoni here.) Went today for lunch, they didn’t have the white pizza out. Boo :(I got a plain cheese slice, it was delicious. Freshly made, chewy crust, flavorful sauce. I got the combo #1 which is a slice of pizza, side salad, and a drink for about $ 8. I saw they have specials on Wednesday and Thursday, so it’s just another good excuse to come back! Also, I’m not sure if they rotate pie flavors, hence, the white pizza not available when I went. Waiting time for both visits have been very minimal, staff are pleasant.

Good, tempting specials depending on which day of the week it is, but horrible quality and mediocre service. The pizza just sits out there, and the texture is just off. So chewy, not warm, as if left there overnight. Very dry, overly salty, yuck. It’s nearby a few other eateries that are much better, such as Greek food, sandwich place, and even Panda Express. Some of my coworkers noticed that their credit card /bank card account gets hit after coming to this place. Coincidence? I think not! It’s the place that we all went to, and we all got hit, had to be reissued credit card and such. Also one guy used his other card here at some point and that got hit too, and it’s the card he never used except this time cause he didn’t have his other one. So yeah… Use cash here just in case! Another friend ordered a pizza slice and salad combo. Their salads are prepackaged, and they don’t look that great. Not only that, they forgot to give her the salad! Never again… Elsewhere for my sodium overload please.

It was Friday afternoon and I was feelin frisky. I sought to break my healthy eating habits since it was practically the weekend and I thought«pizza! carbs! yesss!» They only have 3 options of pizza they had were: Cheese, Pepperoni, and a sausage/pepperoni combo. As a vegetarian, I was thoroughly unimpressed when I inquired about getting some veggies on my pizza and was told that all the pizza underneath the heating lamps was all they had. COOL! I got a cheese slice and got the heck out of there. The pizza itself had no flavor — super bummed, how can you ruin it? I’ve had better pizza out the freezer section in the grocery store! The price was cheap at least, only cost $ 2.92. This was also my first and last time going there. Honestly, save your money for somewhere else!

GOODQUALITYPIZZA. I like this place. I sometimes get a large pizza and share it with the office. I did deduct one star because I think the individual slices are a little expensive, but it is still priced less than most of the other restaurants around here(except for Panda and McDonalds). The sauce and dough have good flavor and they also serve garlic knots and salads. I have never done it, but they also have subs and calzones.

My boyfriend and I got calzones here. My boyfriend liked his, mine had much to be desired. I prefer overstuffed dough pillows. These were more fancy looking dough pockets sprinkled with ingredients. I would come back to try the pizza, if I needed something quick. The service was good. The people working the counter were nice. This place is nowhere near comparable to pizzerias in New York though. Also, the meatballs have a lot of onions in them. If you’re not a fan of onions, you’ll want to avoid them.

Came back yesterday for lunch after a few hours of strolling through Downtown. Again, it’s a pretty average place. I got a slice of Hawaiian pizza, and it was alright. There needs to be a bit more flavor though. Other than that, it’s just okay. The staff is very sweet though, very friendly. I should try out their calzones the next time I stop by. I’d really like to see how those are.

I was really needing some pizza on Tuesday at lunch. I Unilocal searched for pizza near my office and nothing was coming up nearby(this a Unilocal app issue I have often encountered with regards to pizza). So I walked on over to California Plaza, my memory jogging as I approached the southern entrance to the Water Court, remembering that there’s a pizza place across from Blue Cow. And there it was, shining like a beacon of pizza happiness: Johnnie’s. To my delight, it was a day for specials: 2HUGE slices + drink for $ 7.99(Mondays, Tuesdays, & Fridays)! Hooray! I got a slice of NY White Pie(Garlic cream sauce, gourmet mozzarella cheese and sautéed spinach: yes, please) and a slice of the daily special pizza to go(it involved artichokes and olives: winner). My pizza itch thus scratched, I walked out a happy girl. And note: the second slice I saved for breakfast a few mornings later. Threw it in the toaster oven, and it came out splendid. Double win, and all for under $ 10.

Hands down worst customer service I have ever encountered anywhere. Lets just say MCDONALDS service is by far better in service.

We don’t often come to California Plaza to pick up food. However, when we do we try to sample everything to know what we like the most. Since I have such big eyes when it comes to food. After getting what we were here for at other spots, we dropped by here and picked up a special as well. I ordered the combo that comes with 2 slices of supreme and a drink. Price is decent for lunch. Around 7 dollars for a combo. The pizza was just alright. It definitely does not come close to real New York Pizza but it gets the job done if you are hungry and on a budget.

Came here on Wednesday and got their Wed/Thurs special: Free Drink with purchase of any Sandwich or Pasta. I got their Homemade Lasagna: «a huge portion of authentic ‘Little Italy’ lasagna, meatballs, ricotta and mozzarella cheese, topped with our homemade marinara sauce». It came with two garlic knots. $ 9.95. The lady who took my order was nice, but I felt that the wait was a bit longer than it needed to be. They weren’t busy when I placed my order so I didn’t understand why it took so long. The lasagna was pretty good, but not the greatest. Overall it’s a decent place to go up on Bunker Hill.

Inexpensive but far from the best. I’ll stop by here for lunch from time to time but am never floored by their pizza. Salad is okay too. Usually if I’m not wanting to spend my usual $ 10 on lunch, I’ll come here instead for ½ the price.

One might feel this review is a bit premature but I may as well go ahead with it anyway. I ordered a slice of tomato basil pizza. They don’t heat it for you which is a bummer. It came just above room temperature. If you were to go to a place like Lamonica’s to order by the slice, they would put it right into the pizza oven for you which makes a huge difference. The dough at Johnnies is ok, I guess, but nothing special. Taste is acceptable but the texture could be much better. It seems like the place would have solid pizza, better than your typical take-out, but it’s definitely nothing to rave about.

The first time I visited Angels Knoll was to witness the wonderful park portrayed in the 2009 film,(500) Days of Summer. It was a nice moment I shared with my girlfriend though a few hours later we realized we were tremendously hungry but had forgotten to locate a restaurant prior to our first visit. We decided to venture to the Central Library a few blocks away and luckily we discovered a Panda Express located in the structure. The reason why I’m writing this story is because while we were walking back to the park we saw a plaza behind A.K. with a Panda Express and many more restaurants within. We both laughed later that night. So recently I decided to spend another afternoon at the park but this time I came prepared and decided to eat at an intriguing restaurant that caught my eye. I was very pleased with the Monday, Tuesday and Friday deal where you can get two pepperoni slices and a drink for $ 5. While the deal wasn’t revolutionary I was certainly satisfied with the offer and took advantage immediately and I might say — my appetite was relieved. When it comes to pizza I am very picky from how thick the crust is to the amount of sauce that goes in the pizza and this was just right. All in all I was very pleased with my visit there, despite the enormous moth inside the restaurant that caused my girlfriend to flee the restaurant faster than a Democrat in Texas.

Johnnie’s actually gets 3.5 stars from me. It is better than you average pizza. The dough is really good and slightly chewey… and the crust is even quite edible! It is really convenient for financial district people, but can get a bit crowded sometimes. Johnnie’s is a good little pizza by the slice spot to go to. Their staff is always really pleasant. Another good thing is that they have real parmessan cheese! $ 5 for 2 medium size slices.

What a great little pizza place! I came here today for lunch and am now a big fan, I must say. It’s super easy and the pizza is great — big slices(knife-and-fork worthy), and some of the best crust I’ve ever had, all warm and soft. Plus, they offer salads(in the event that my will-power ever overcomes my desire for pizza…). Yum Yum! I will definitely be back :)

It is extremely rare for me to go out and grab lunch while I’m at work. Something about the whole paying $ 10 for a sandwich thing rubs me the wrong way. But at some point you can only take yogurt and bananas for so long and decide to join all the suits in Cal Plaza for a midday meal. I got to the pizzeria on a rainy day and the line was already out the door at 12:05, which is pretty much what you can expect anywhere at this time. My friend G told me the line goes by pretty fast, and it did. In about 10 minutes I got to the front of the line. I asked for a slice of the tomato/basil and a slice of pepperoni and the total came to about $ 5. I’m not gonna lie, unless you go down to Grand Central Market and get some pupusas, lunch for $ 5 is hard to come by in these parts. I took the pizza back to the office and dug in. The slices are generous, the crust crispy and the toppings plentiful. I liked the tomato basil the most(it wasn’t as greasy as the pepperoni). Yeah, the line is slow — but it’s not like you’ll be stuck here for your entire lunch break. Plus, the restaurant met my basic weekday lunch requirement of not going over $ 7. Three stars.

Johnnie’s Pizzeria opened up a couple weeks ago below the building of where I work(Two California Plaza), I’m skeptical about trying a place that replaced Taco Time(heard that place was disgusting). Attempt #1: Thursday: We tried to get pizza for lunch at 12:30 and failed. The line was out the door all the way to the fountain which is about 10 feet away from their door and from the door to the counter it’s another 8 feet or so. Now, I’m super curious as to how the pizza at this establishment is, since the line is ridiculous. Attempt #2 Friday: It’s 12:15 went downstairs and SCORE!!! The line is only at the door!!! So I thought it wasn’t going to take me that line until I get my food so I can stuff my face but was I in for a surprise. I had to wait another freaking 20mins or so until I got to order. I mean come on, there was only about 10 people ahead of me. New York White Pie(Garlic cream sauce, gourmet mozzarella cheese and sauted spinach) so greasy that it was dripping while I was eating it. I swear I can probably rub a slice of the pizza on a pan then fried an egg on it. Pepperoni was also greasy but the pepperoni was really flavorful. Well my overall experience for this place? Food — greasy, good portion, greasy, yummy, and did I mention greasy?(minus ½ star) Service — slow… especially during rush hour lunch(minus ½ star) Price — Cheap. 2 huge slices for $ 5. I ate one sliced and trashed the other because I was already stuffed.

Replacing Taco Time that replaced Taco Bell, Johnnie’s New York Pizzeria now gives me a new reason to eat at the Water Court. $ 5 for 2 slices of pizza might sound steep but if each slice is equivalent to two«regular» slices in a large pie, then it might be worth it. Get a slice of NY White Pie(sauceless). Get a slice of the Supreme. Skip the Calzones. They take 15 minutes, they’re hard to eat, and they’re drippy. see pics. They don’t tell you what the Giovanni Calzone is, but it’s tomato, spinach and ricotta. Skip the garlic knots($ 3,95 for a dozen). Eat the garlic rolls _for free_at C&O’s(Trattoria or Cucina, they’re equally good). Call ahead and pick up so you don’t have to wait in the 50+person line at noon. I am not exaggerating!
