Hygge has amazing pastries. There are many options that I love but particularly I love the almond cookies. They are unlike your typical cookie texture. They are chewy and and very moist — I think that’s from the almond paste. I am not a baker but I can recognize good quality ingredients in pastries and everything I’ve tried here is quality and delicious.

Awful, rating this place by a phone call. Service is awful! I wanted to order the chocolate cake that served 6 – 8 people, online said $ 15. When I wanted to place an order it went to $ 41. I don’t understand why prices change. Please update the website with accurate prices

I came here for lunch and recommend the sandwich and soup combo. They have a really nice tomato basil soup. The Tuna sandwich is always tasty. The staff is pleasant and always takes good care of you.

Poor customer service. I was the only one in the whole café and the server came off like she didn’t have the time to tell me what the pastries were. On top of that what coffee shop runs out of cream? Not worth your time.

Came here on my ½ lunch for a soup. After ordering the staff spent most of my lunch talking to a regular customer and forgot about my order. After they noticed I had been sitting there waiting they asked me if I had ordered anything I said yes and now need it to go. After that it was quick but the staff should be attentive to orders because some people are on a time schedule.

Oh my! Not sure where the good reviews came from at all. Went here with a friend and tried the bread, pastries, and a sandwich. Nothing in the display case is labeled. The staff seem somewhat confused that someone not know what the particular pastries might be. That was awkward. I tried the water kringle. The pastry itself was very, very bad. It made me nostalgic for those cinnamon rolls that come from the paper roll that you whack on the counter to open. First off, the frosting tasted exactly like that sugary frosting that comes in those paper roll cinnamon roll containers. And then the pastry part was not any better than that either. So $ 3.54 for one of them. Nope. Not going to do it again. The bread was uninspired. No real crust to speak of(well, it had a hard part on the outside, but it was crust the same way a wonder bread has crust) — very fluffy inside despite the dark look to it. Could have compressed it into a little ball and popped it into my mouth. Flavor was okay, but not much different than you can get at your local big grocery store. Sandwich was poor. I had the caprese. Was hoping that it would be okay, but if you don’t season the average store bought tomato and leave out the basil, you get a whole lot of nothing for flavor. Not worth the $ 8.50 at all. I could eat it, but it just did nothing for me. Don’t bother. There are much, much better alternatives nearby.

I’m not sure why this place got 4 out of 5 stars — but I was definitely disappointed when I went to this place. To start, the selection of pastry was not that much and the bread that was on the rack were literally all fake! Turns out they are only there for display and the real bread is found only in the back in which the cashier had to go back and check. Bread connoisseurs go elsewhere. The display didn’t contain labels of what the pastries were and their respective prices. Sad to say, it seems the cashier didn’t seem to have any knowledge of whatever they were selling either. I asked for their«most popular pastry» and the pastry that I brought tasted nothing more than a oily donut with frosting one side, custard in between and chocolate on the other side. For«the most popular» pastry, I was expecting something better. At about $ 3.50, I’m definitely not impressed with the price(let alone the taste). Credit cards are accepted. Metered parking in the front. I probably wouldn’t be back.

Horrible service! I ordered my food, but they made me wait for nearly 20 min before telling me they are out of the sandwich that I ordered! And the only reason they told me is that I asked for my sandwich after tired of waiting! So if I didn’t ask, they gonna make me wait forever for nothing!!! The pastry looks nice, but you have to learn how to handle a busy morning!!! I ends up going home without any food and running late to work!!! They returned the money but with no apology at all!!! Waste of time!!!

I enjoy this place in South Park. Their vietnamese coffee is one of my go-to drinks. The staff is very nice and attentive. Only complaint that I have is the café latte — I got a large and I am pretty sure 80% of it was milk froth. I had to add espresso to it when I got home.

I ordered the tree trunks and another pastry with nuts on top and these were not good. The presentation was pretty good, they looked delicious and pretty however the taste was not worth the $ 16 I spent on 4 pastries. What a disappointment. I do not recommend this bakery. Such a shame.

Oh dear. Hygge is a cute little pastry shop in the new«South Park» district of DTLA. It’s designed like your average pastry shop, and the pastries look fantastic although the selection is limited. The staff is nice too. The problem is the pastries are not good. At all. In fact, they’re terrible. Of course, I’m not Danish, but these pastries taste stale, like they’ve been left out for days. Both the Sarah Bernhardt cookie and the Water Kringle were some of the worst pastries I’ve had. You can easily find better imitation Danish pastries at Ralph’s or even Smart & Final. Even at $ 3 – 4 per pastry, I wasn’t above tossing the pastries in the garbage. Nope.

It took 40 minutes to get our food and people who ordered after us l were served before us. Keep that in mind when coming. I brought up my complaint to the manager and she gave my group free coffee. By the time we all got our food the sandwiches were cold.

My favorite morning coffee as it does not have the high acid content that the corporate Star***ks around the corner. Plus the ham n cheese croissant had just come out of the oven this morning. Super yummy! Staff is so friendly. Just want to hang out and not go back to work…

I’m not Danish but… Have been coming here since I moved to downtown. Great place to get fresh bread, and of course the danish pastries. I’m not danish, nor am I really a sweets guy(more of a savory person, even when it comes to pastry) but they are pretty damn good. My personal favorites are the raspberry spandauer, and the raspberry mazarin. The bread is made fresh, and because of this the sandwiches are always great. They do breakfast sandwiches now too which are delicious. The style has a european flair to it(for example, the curry aioli on the turkey sandwich… not something you’d find often in the USA, but pretty common in western europe), which I really enjoy. The service used to be ok, but now they’ve really ramped it up and it’s great. Claudia, who is usually there most days, is incredibly friendly and always ready to help you out with a smile. Casual vibe, and great place to sit down and have a coffee and pastry, or a quick lunch. Free wi-fi! Food: A Service: A Ambience: A

I just got their chorizo breakfast sandwich and it was obviously made to order, not a prepackaged sandwich. The sandwich was warm inside the bag when they handed it to me, and it was still warm when I got it back to my office several minutes later and tucked in. The crust had a slight crunch to it, but not so much that it was tough to bite through. The sandwich maintained its shape throughout my entire consumption without being flattened. The chorizo was tasty but as pieces fell from my sandwich onto the paper, I wondered if I should have gone with the ham, instead. Their website needs to be updated because they list their sandwiches at $ 5.50 when they’re actually $ 6.00. For that price, you’re not getting a lot of fillings in the breakfast sandwich but I don’t think you need to. The ratio of bread to filling was just about perfect, and the bread was quite good. I’ll probably try them again.

I was desperate for a morning pastry but didn’t want to go anywhere that was in the middle of downtown on a week day morning, so I tried Hygge, which came up in my Unilocal search. The good is that its location at 11th and Hope is – for now, at least – outside of the core of downtown so traffic wasn’t crazy and I easily found parking on a meter. The bakery is small and cozy and wasn’t crowded. I was a bit disappointed in the selection of pastries, which seemed smaller than what I had seen in pictures on Unilocal, but perhaps that is because they are specializing in Danish pastries. There were a few different croissants, kringles, and buns as well as some more dessert-style items. The almond kringle I had was quite good, although not as good as a similar pastry I got at Bread Lounge(perhaps because they use only margarine and not butter?) The coffee was just okay. It was set out in refill-style containers I’d return for pastries since it’s convenient for me and the products are good quality but I would pass on the coffee.

We got a Kringle bar, tea bun with raisins, Saundra Bernhardt cookie, and chocolate croissant. We LOVED the Saundra Bernhardt with that almond soft cookie bottom, thick chocolate mousse filling and crispy chocolate coating! It was to go so they wisely put it in a plastic container to prevent it from being crushed(which at the time I was clueless about the potential for damage until I actually bit into the chocolate dome of happiness). The tea bun with raisins was perfectly cooked, light but filling– very clearly coated in butter before cooking. It was perfect if you wanted to mediate the sweetness of the other pastries or if you aren’t a sweets person. The Kringle bar was rich and sweet and flakey– everything you could want in a pastry. The chocolate croissant was a tad overcooked and quite frankly paled in comparison to the rest of our haul. I would go back in a heartbeat!
