This place can’t be beat. I love everything here: beverages and the rice cakes. My favorites are the songpyon and injulmi. One of the nice touches of Howondang is that they ahve made up small sampler packets of the different rice cakes so you can try them to see which ones you like.

Pricey, but I’ve got to say this is quality(dduk), or sweetened Korean rice cake. It is soft and spongy, even in small slices. You would think that it would dry out by the end of the day, but it was amazingly moist. Not the type of where you end up coughing after trying to eat it. I also like that they have small slices available, although ~$ 2 for a slice is a bit too much, barely a bite. I always pass by on the way out of the Ktown Galleria Market, but never went in. Now that I’ve tried it, I will be back, at least from time to time. I imagine their cakes and larger orders must be expensive.

I don’t go to HoWonDang too often but I do like its rice cake. This place is located next to Cake House at Koreatown Galleria. They always have free sample on the table outside their store. I tried few of them and actually liked them. I am not familiar with the names but there were two kinds that I like. One of them was crunchy and sweet, the other one looked like layered cake with different colors. There is another Korean mochi place that I really love at K-Town. 3 stars! HoWonDang Bakery is yummylicious!

I LOVE Howondang Bakery. Situated downstairs of the Koreatown Galleria on the first floor, this little goldmine is overshadowed by ANOTHER bakery called Cake House but is SOMUCHBETTER. The taste of the rice cakes and the breads they have are so authentic and true to traditional Korean baking. I absolutely LOVE their Hobakdduk(pumpkin rice cake) and although 6 square pieces at $ 4 is a bit steep, the taste will just blow you away. I’ve had Hobakdduk at many different«Korean bakeries» but Howondang(quite oppositely) «takes the cake»! It’s phenomenal! Also, their Shik-hae, a popular Korean [fermented] rice drink, is to drool for. At a cool $ 7.50 for a liter size, it may seem a bit overpriced but once you taste it, you’ll think it’s definitely worth the price! The owner and workers are friendly and they don’t expect you to buy $ 10 worth just to use your debit card, unlike Cake House. I strongly recommend you try their dduk and shik-hae! You’ll fall in love! :)

This place sounded great, but it’s CLOSED. There is a place called the Cake House in the first floor of the Koreatown marketplace by the same address; see my review.

Amazing Korean bakery(although really, more like a patisserie) to pick up artisanal pastries. All kinds of traditional crackers/cookies, and catalogues for even more should you be planning a special event. Beautiful and perfectly packaged for gifts.
