I’ve come here many times, but tonight Hirozen outdid itself. I got the butterfish skewers, and they were so light and delicate but still flavorful and delicious. I would definitely order them again. The tempura was quite possibly the best tempura I’ve ever had. So crunchy and tasty and hot. The sushi is always so good. I like the California roll with real crab. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. It’s that good. It’s tiny and a little bit hidden, but I think that makes it even more special.

I’m a purist when it comes to sushi, and this place knows what it’s doing. Don’t come here if you’re going to order some lame cut rolls. If you know your stuff, you’ll appreciate it. Sit at the sushi bar! Order the omakase! And my own personal favorite, the TAI –red snapper is to die for here. I should stop talking now because I want to keep this a secret for myself. It’s a very tiny restaurant with not many seats… Pro-tip: Make a reservation.

Went in last night with a small group. We were heading to Vegan Joy but I seen this place and fell in love with the ambiance. We were seated promptly. The food: Shishito peppers(2.5÷5) Yellow scallion roll(3.5÷5) Spicy tuna roll(2⁄5) Salmon nigiri(3⁄5) With the price of the food I expected much more flavor from the quality of the fish. I don’t foresee this being a place I would go out my way for. For the cost if I can go to Koi. However, the food is decent.

Good Japanese restaurant in this little mall on Beverly Boulevard. Focus only on the sushi or the Omakase. Forget the cooked food and the rolls! Atmosphere a little bit cramped and so and so service, but you are here for only one reason, to have decent priced sushi…

have been back many times since my last review, and keep coming back because it’s just a really great place to grab a delicious bite. had lunch there today. the lunch menu now has several well priced combos — i got the roll special which has a california roll, teriyaki chicken and shrimp and veggie tempura(along with rice and miso). $ 12.95 or so. actually the 4 piece cali roll was still ultra tiny — probably about the size of 2 normal size pieces, cut in half. i probably didn’t notice so so much this time b/c we had two rolls and edamame as a la carte appetizers. sure, i’d still like more food in the combo boxes but i guess they’re doing my potentially fat ass a favor. anyway it’s all delicious and service is always very nice and gracious. a tasty and calming spot in the middle of beverly and a fave when i’m in the area.

Disappointed. It’s a busy place with some Asian customers and staff here. I came here with some expectation. However, we can tell the ingredients are not fresh. We ordered black cod, tempura, spicy tuna roll with some sushi. Black cod had a strong fish smell but not fresh. The way they made roll and sushi tells they are not professional. Rice are very loose definitely not like gourmet food. Food not fresh. Don’t recommend to someone who really into high standard Jap food.

A great sushi experience, the sushi flown in from Japan is a must try. The seared salmon sushi is incredible. Also very different fish selection dorado, snapper, albacore, toro etc. the service was very courteous and fast. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

My wife and I ate there last night and both ordered the omakase. The fish was fresh but my major disappointment was the fact that the omakase did not really contain anything«special». In fact, most of the sushi pieces were simply coated with two layers of sauce and it felt more like an assembly line sytle multi-course meal than a culinary journey consisting of a broad spectrum of fish and other items. Overall, it simply didn’t justify the high $ 340 price tag for two people(including tip, one bottle of beer and 2 bottles of sake).

So how do I even begin with Hirozen? Well first off the restaurant is in a strip mall with no «sushi» signs anywhere. You would only really know about this place by word-of-mouth. This is by far the most authentic sushi I have devoured in my two years living in LA. The place is small and is only open for dinner. I recommend a reservation if you need a table for more than two people, other than that the bar is great too. I can’t real explain what the sushi is actually like but the sushi experts reading this will already begin to understand. «Special rolls» and California rolls will not be found here and asking for extra sauces is just rude. Hope you get the picture Xo-S

We used to live in Downtown and would frequently walk to Little Tokyo for an authentic sushi experience. What a delight to find this place within walking distance from our new place. The menu is top notch. The sushi is fantastic. The service is out of this world. I hardly miss Little Tokyo. It’s not super fancy or super trendy. I think that just adds to the charm. And if you are looking for something a little exotic, this is your place. We’ll be back for sure!

Favorite sushi place in the area. Don’t let the strip mall curb styling fool you — this place is a gem. They have the more provincial spicy tuna roll and the like if you insist, but I suggest going with whatever the chef’s choice is for the day. On this visit it was young sea bass, octopus, and baby snapper.(Baby creatures are the most delicious, as general rule). I always get loup de mer and and my usual salmon/avocado roll and seaweed salad if still hungry.

I was taken here for lunch with a decent-sized group of people, headed by a man who makes way too much money, and the result was one of the best sushi lunches I’ve ever had. It would be great if I could tell you what we had, but I can’t. The man in charge ordered omakase, for everyone, and so I simply sat there while a slow rotation of one astonishingly tasty piece of sushi after the other was placed in front of me. We also drank sake — a lot of it. This is a lunch meal? Who cares with drink this good. Apparently, this was some special sake they keep on reserve, just for this guy. But I’d also assume they have plenty of delicious, top-shelf options for everyone else. The meal ended with a generous selection of mochi, every piece of which was super tasty. Service here was excellent. The chefs and wait staff were all very friendly and accommodated any of our needs.

I’ve said it many times that sushi reviews are so subjective. I ate here years and years ago and have been wanting to come back since moving to the neighborhood 3 years back. I popped in for lunch and tried the tuna, albacore, salmon and halibut sushi and sashimi. I found it to be fresh, but I wasn’t smitten by any means. I found it all to be bland on the whole. The service was very good and everyone was friendly. I sat at the sushi bar and got out for about $ 30. What a bargain! It’s super casual and not much to speak of in terms of ambiance, which actually doesn’t affect me either way. If you’re a purist like me, don’t come here for rolls, I didn’t even look to see if they had them, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t. Parking seems to be easy with valet and meters on the street.

I went here for lunch omakase the other day and come here from time to time. They never disappoint. The staff and chefs are always really nice and super helpful. The chef goes to the fish market every morning(except sunday when it’s closed). For lunch, omakase is a bit on the pricey side, so don’t think I’ll be doing lunch omakase again and will just opt for dinner omakase. Overall, always a great experience when I come here.

I was not expecting much at this hole in the wall, but it was actually really good. Every piece of sushi from the salmon to the toro was really fresh and delicious despite the fact of it being ridiculously expensive for such a dingy place in a small plaza. If you don’t care about paying a high dollar amount for a weak atmosphere, then I’d recommend it. Otherwise, you might want to try somewhere else for the same price with a nicer ambience.

Sushi was the only thing that kept me from being vegan for about a year. I just loved salmon, toro, unagi, etc. and couldn’t imagine not eating them, until it hurt more to be a hypocrite than it did to go without. Hirozen is one of the few sushi restaurants in LA that makes eating vegan sushi a joy instead of a painful reminder of what I’m missing out on. My omni(but adventurous) friend joined me for plate after plate of beautiful vegetable sushi, made traditionally and not as a roll. Three types of mushrooms, eggplant prepared like unagi(!!!), and perfect lotus root. I also ordered a vegetable roll as well and it was one of the best veggie rolls I have had in LA. I loved it so much! It’s such a treat to eat nigiri like I used to, and I could seriously have three orders of the eggplant sushi and not miss a beat, it was that good. This is definitely one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in LA. My other fish-eating friends dig this spot for its high quality sushi and its low profile. Unlike having to wait an hour or two without a reservation at Izakaya by Katsuya, I’ve been able to walk in and grab a table each time. Bring your vegan friends here, they will love you!

I was here again last night. Parking: Valet only and it’s $ 4.50. No validation. Try to find a spot on the street but it might be safer to just valet. Service: My only complaint last time was the service but last night was amazing! Our server lady was very courteous and she gave us recommendations. This restaurant is tiny and super cozy so be mindful of others that are eating next to you. :) Food: Once again, I was very satisfied with everything. I got my usual sushi picks, appetizer roll, white fish yakitori, beef yakitori, hamburg steak, king crab sushi. The meal was flawless and sushi was fresh but I feel like it’s a little too thin? I hope the chefs can make some adjustment to that. I really liked the yakitori appetizers. I’m planning to try some more next time. I would definitely recommend this place… but I almost don’t want to because I want to keep this place to myself!

This restaurant is for adults only. Please do not bring your children and expect anyone, including the chefs to be polite to you. How are you being polite when your children are crying, screaming, yelling, and running around? You’re the one who is rude and disruptive to the business and the patrons who are trying to have an enjoyable meal. With that being said, I frequent this restaurant and order only Omakase because that is what they are known for. The staff and chefs are very friendly and will be happy to answer any of your questions and engage with you without disrupting hour dinner. I love that they are very meticulous on the types of fish they buy to ensure that it is of best quality for the season. They do not substitute with mediocre fish to fill the menu. That’s what I love about this place.

Small and intimate. Black cod — always tasty! This is what you should have. No complaints honestly… just small and in a strip mall, but this is LA right!

Overpriced hole-in-the-wall… This restaurant is a bit of an oxymoron. While I literally could have ordered the butterfish appetizer 18 times over… I would have been down a pretty penny and my belly probably still wouldn’t have been full because the portion was TINY! One dish I highly recommend you do NOT order… The sockeye salmon! It was completely over cooked… Tasted a lot like a leather shoe. In fact, leather shoes taste better. The sashimi sushi was pretty tasty, but it was gone in a blink of an eye, yet costed about $ 12. I am sorry ECHISUSHI — I won’t cheat on you again! Check out my Hirozen review on Tastemade:
