Best fried chicken in Los Angeles been going here 27 years, when it was on Pico and La Brea and now 28th and Crenshaw. Woohoo!

Not sure what the bad reviews could possibly be for. Earl and his nephew Darryl could not possibly be nicer or more welcoming. While their fried chicken is more in the style of Honey’s Kettle(the batter is less Southern and more«fish and chips”-y), there is a lot to love about this Golden Bird location. Aside from the charm of its Haitian-born owner/proprietor and his nephew, the spicy non-fried chicken is a punch in the taste buds. Delish, with fresh onions and peppers. Some of the sides are particularly memorable. Steer yourself toward anything with the word cajun» in it. Earl is even going to try and get some cool sodas in the spot like the Western location, and they go as far as hosting a 99cent item shindig one saturday a month.

If i could give this review no stars i would thats how bad it was. If you are looking for the original golden bird flavor don’t waste your time coming here. The location is run down and not very clean. All of the sides and chicken are sitting under heat lamps and look dried out and disgusting. I went with fries as my side thinking how bad can fries be. They tasted like old grease! Threw them out. Thought the chicken might be better… Nope. The chicken tasted like it had been sitting for hours. It was overcooked and tough like it had been fried a second time to get it hot again. It lacked the golden bird flavor that I’m used to. It was just altogether bad! Don’t waste your time coming here its gross. If you want real golden bird go to the location on western. Its the real deal and always fresh. Always!

I was digging the Creole Mac and cheese. I asked about the one down on Crenshaw and slauson or western avenue he said well they don’t have the same foods why u wanna go there I said it’s closer to me. Then asked him about do they accept ebt. For hot foods he said no, then charged me $ 15 for one person, I laughed and said no man. u got me messed up for the wrong one.and. I left when to monster burger

My wife told me she saw this place when going down Crenshaw Blvd. and we decided to stop in try it. Food was great! Earl, who I am guessing is the owner, was very friendly and pleasant. and offered us a small sampler of the items since it was our first visit. The chicken doesn’t quite taste like the Golden Bird I remember, but his sides were off the chain! Will definitely visit again next time I’m in LA.

Was looking for the Golden Bird that used to be on Pico and ended up here! Took a good look around at this place, dirty, unappetizing, and the person behind the counter had a terrible attitude! Missing the young handsome guys and girls and the other location in a nice clean environment. The recipe was what I remember but the chicken must have been sitting around all day cuz it was cold. I grew up in Crenshaw area and raised in Golden Bird! The Stennis family must no longer own it! It was one of my favorite places back in the day! Can’t eat this too often nowadays!

Chicken is always great at Golden Bird. This is a new location according to the owner. Seemed very nice. Parking is a bad thing here. Also, store was a little run down. Chicken is always great.

Ordered the 12pc mixed chicken + Mac n cheese + candied yams. Since it was a large order the chef fried up a new batch just for me. Everything was delicious. Will definitely go here again.

The fries are fire, chicken is addicting, they have some of the best Mac and cheese. The bread is probbaly the worst part. It use to be bomb but now it’s Ralph’s bread.

Don’t look or taste like the Golden Bird I remember from the 80’s or the one on Western for that matter

I traveled from Las Vegas and found the restaurant that I grew up in. The sign is the same. The food was not to my liking at all. It took forever to place my order. The chicken was not fresh. They gave me hard cornbread muffins instead of a biscuit. The sweet potato pie was also not fresh. They were doing construction. One customer was not able to use her debit card and had to go get money from another location. I will not be back.

I actually love Golden Bird chicken, but this is not the one!!! This place is not clean and the food looked old, maybe I went on a bad day but not sure what happened. Sorry some of my other favorite GB’s closed down they were run by Jamaicans and they kept the place running well.

I went here a couple of weekends ago, I have to say for it’s location and apperance I was pleasently surprised. It was one of those places where after you eat, you have to come back. We ordered the creole turkey, mashed potatoes, fried chicken, and some cornbread. It was bomb diggity. The attendant told us that every first saturday of the moment every item was $ 1!!! I can’t wait to go back, this of course is not one of the healthiest meals but it has soo much flavor and richness to it. It’s def comfort food. I can’t wait to go back and try some of the other items.

I’m not sure what food the other Unilocalers had but the food I had was horrible. 1.The chicken tasted old wasn’t crispy at all 2. String beans were salty, mac n cheese was dried out 3. I will stick with the golden on manchester

I’d never watched«Friday Night Lights» before until I dined here. Pretty good show. But don’t let me get off-tangent. Guys, I ordered a two piece combo: thigh, wing, mac & cheese, biscuit, and a sixteen-ounce Coke. CHICKEN: The skin was dark — not burnt — and crispy. It’s silly to say it, but the texture and flavor of the breading felt homemade, which is always a happy thing, chicken-wise. The skin’s crunch complements the meat nicely, choking your arteries in a vice-grip. And the meat? Oy gevalt, is it tender. It falls right off the bone, it does! As a patron of the fried bird arts, I do like me some bone-sucking time, but no time is wasted at Golden Bird. It kind of reminds me of one of Conan’s In the Year 2000 jokes, «Kleenex will invent a tissue so soft and lotiony they will have to be wiped up by other tissues.» A gross and terribly inaccurate point of reference, but look, the meat’s tender and awesome. MAC&CHEESE: Featuring red pepper flakes! It’s spicy here, and not obnoxiously cheesy. Surprisingly light, it’s a good mac-to-cheese ratio. BISCUIT: Yummy yummersons. Do you remember The Window to Weight Gain from«The Simpsons»? That’s your napkin, hoss. Take one look at the greasy piece of Heaven’s fluffy, fluffy cloud and you know it was *just* made, right there, right past your head in the restaurant’s kitchen. Anything that buttery can only be sinful. So, so buttery. As buttery as Luther Vandross’s voice… and the foods he loved. PARKING: strip mall parking. You should be fine. If you end up pulling into the spot right in front of Little Caesars, just avert your eyes as you make a sharp angle into Golden Bird. You should know that«SWPICKLE» on the menu means«sweet pickle». May be obvious, but it wasn’t to me when I went to order. Maybe it’s because I was too distracted trying to hide the pool of sweat and drool forming at my feet. The only problem I had with Golden Bird: they could stand to get more substantial plasticware. The forks gave way, bending and threatening suicide when all I wanted was to go nuclear on some bird. Conclusion: «Yaaaaay!»

I have been a Unilocaler for several years, but have not written any reviews. I have been content to read what others say rather than write my opinion, which is generally more of the same. However it is time for my inaugural review. Golden Bird Fried chicken has been a fave of mine for some time. I was aware that Earl(owner) was forced to move his location due to increases in rent at the Venice location. He left however without any advertising or signs to show the new location. With the help of other Unilocalers who posted his new address in his former review site, I was able to locate him again. I decided that others may not have been able to find him, so GB needs a proper review site with the correct address. In fact while I was there someone else said they could not find him either. Earl’s new location is smaller than the previous location, maybe 2⁄3 the size. However that is not a problem since I generally buy a large quantity to share with others. The chicken is the hook here. It is the best in town, better than Honey Kettle, Louisiana, and Popeyes. He has added some new sides like Creole Mac & Cheese, and Creole potatoes, but don’t forget to try the onion rings — Mmmm. GB’s business traffic is down probably due to the move, so from a selfish perspective I am hopeful that his business will pick up so I can continue with my GB fix.
