Beef ribs and brisket on point! So good. Will return…

This place is the perfect example of why I Unilocal. It’s off the beaten path, it looks unimpressive, and I would’ve never stopped. But oh lord, when I die I believe God may be like, «You never even tried my favorite sandwich place and it was just around the corner from you.» I’m doing the Lord’s work by eating stuff like this brisket hoagie. That thing is just ridiculously good. Although I didn’t know until I ordered it, and they give a discount on a second sandwich if you write a review. So I told him I would like to get two sandwiches but not this time. I couldn’t write a review yet. When he asked why, I told him that I didn’t even taste the first one yet! So I ate it. And then went back and bought the wagyu French dip after starting this review. That au jus is possibly the world’s best. Phillipe’s needs to get their hands on this stuff. Although I did like the meat on the brisket better. Oh…OH. And they have my favorite Bbq sauce in the entire world that they only sell back in my home state of Oklahoma! Head Country Bbq sauce! It’s truly amazing. Stop by to buy a bottle and stay for the sandwich. And then click my useful button because my sensitive and childish ego gets all too excited when I see it.

Amazing! So glad this is down the street from my house. The selection of smoked and grilled meats to choose from is huge, from wagyu beef ribs to grilled chicken, brisket the list goes on and on and everything is amazing. They have great sandwhiches too all made from the meats in their deli. They also have a butcher shop that is top notch. Everyone that works there is friendly! Definitely a 5 star deli

Everything here is delicious. This is my go to place for sandwiches and great american sides. I highly recommend the Brisket and French Dip. They are filled with flavor and rich in flavor. I normally get the Brisket and ask for the au jus from the French Dip on the side. It’s a win win. The french dip is fried fresh. They bring out the meat raw and fry for you when you ask. The brisket is steeped in sauce and they bring the meat on top of the sandwich. My favorite sides here are the Macaroni and cheese and the Sweet Potato. AWESOMEEE I’ve only gotten steaks here once and I got the New York on recommendation. The meat was very high quality, way better than the ones I normally get at Bristol Farms.

High quality, friendly service, and a great local neighborhood spot. Love the variety and how orders are made with the quickness despite a short staff. Support this place! Couple bucks more than a Subway footlong, by far a better product.

I live 5 blocks away, and today was the first time I had ever stepped foot in here. From the minute I walked in I was impressed with the cleanliness, and good music playing(Santana). We only stopped by to check the place out, but immediately after looking at the goodies, I knew I wanted to try! We tried the French dip, my first thought was«mmmmmmmm!!!» Then I immediately thought, «Omg, the best dip I’ve ever had!» Then I tore up my potato salad. So so good! Great, clean, and delicious! And it’s so close to my home, we are in trouble!!!

Have ordered sandwiches twice from Gentleman’s now and I’m definitely going back for more, it’s one of the best things in the neighborhood. First time I had the jerk chicken and it was really good – not too hot, filled with fresh veggies. Second sammy was brisket and it was really, really good. A little on the heavier side, but I knew what I was getting myself into… My husband had the french dip both times, and their au jus is so god damn delicious! Sides doesn’t disappoint either; crunchy coleslaw, creamy potato salad. Haven’t tried their butcher yet, but everything looks really good and is incredibly reasonable. Gentleman’s, I’ll see you soon.

I can’t wait anytime I’m in the area to come here. The wagyu French dip is phenomenal and is something my wife and I always get. We use our second sandwich allotment to experiment to check out the rest of the options. While wagyu is #1 the other options are no slouches either. Brisket hoagie, iron skillet and pulled pork are excellent second options.

WHERE’S THEMEAT? HEREITIS! I’ve been coming to this butcher shop for almost 9 months. I love this place. The meat is outstanding, truly. Custom cuts are usually not a problem. The prices are good, you may spend more than at the supermarket but you’ll never be disappointed with the quality of the meat. At the end of the day, the price is just slightly more. My favorites: Delmonico, New York, Filet Mignon, center cut pork chops(boneless — these are about 1″ thick, and the bacon is so, so good. They carry Apple wood smoked or double-smoked. thick slices with a nice ratio of fat to lean. Sodium, yes. Nitrates, no. They also make their own sausages. If you prefer low sodium sausages, they can make a 3-lb batch, just order ahead of time. Their deli stuff is good too. Try their pesto pasta. Joe and Manny are the butchers usually there. Very accommodating, super friendly and after a while you’ll wonder why you bothered with the supermarket meat. THEDELI I’ve not had the sandwiches and I’ve only tried the pesto salad which is excellent. An excellent balance of pasta to pesto. THEVENUE Half butcher shop/half deli. There are stools along the window and two(three?) tables with chairs and umbrellas just outside. It is next to Coop’s pizza and a mom/pop market.

I knew I loved this place the moment I walked in. And everything that happened after was just the cherry on top. The smell was intoxicating and the meats were on point. The pastrami, in particular, was on fleek. Then came the sample of the Mac and cheese. And the result was just as incredible. The Mac and cheese is $ 7.99/ pound and it is definitely worth it. They’re very generous with the portions for the sample. It’s not a one bite and done kind of situation. Now I sit here waiting for my sandwiches to be finished and I have no doubt that they are going to amaze me as much as everything else I’ve tried so far.

I tried Gentleman’s for lunch a couple of days ago when I was working in Culver City as I wanted to get a simple sandwich and Gentleman’s seemed to have good ratings on Unilocal.Gentleman’s is located a little away from the Venice, Washington, Culver triangle that holds majority of the restaurants in the Culver City area. It is tucked away inside a residential neighborhood with a small lot which seemed to be empty during peak lunch hours. Upon entering I saw that this was like a combined meat market and sandwich shop. There were two people in front of me and one person eating his sandwich outside so it was not completely empty. I decided to get the brisket sandwich but I was told that they were out but was offered a roast beef sandwich($ 9.50) instead so I got that and went with macaroni salad as my side that comes with the sandwich. The sandwich was ready very quickly in under 10 minutes. It seemed to be a decent sized 10 inch sandwich which did not feel too heavy. It had a decent amount of meat but it was not loaded. The meat was fine but the bread was a complete letdown. It was soft, chewy and rubbery. I had explicitly asked for it to be toasted but either they just lightly toasted it or didn’t toast it at all. I mean the sandwich was not terrible but it was not great either. The exact same thing can be said about the macaroni salad just average. As far as I’m concerned Gentleman’s joins tons of places in LA that are just plain average. You just about get your your money’s worth and nothing more. I wouldn’t mind coming back once in a while unless I find another place that actually does good sandwiches at which point I’d jump ship.

As of now, I’m giving this awesome deli /butcher shop 5 stars. I’m VERY happy to have tried it out here yesterday. I left the ordering to my husband. He ordered a brisket and a wagyu beef sandwiches. Cole slaw came with it and so did the kale salad. The kale salad looked SOGOOD that he ordered a larger one as well. Sandwiches knocked my socks off! Slaw was simple, fresh and great. It’s NOT sweet like usual deli slaw and for that, I’m happy And that kale salad WAS as GREATASITLOOKED. I didn’t go inside. I stayed in the car with all my pups after an outing at the dog park. My husband said the guy who was running the place was very friendly. Needless to say, it was a long ride home from Gentleman’s… got extra dog drool on me with those sandwich aromas wafting through the air. Couldn’t WAIT to get home to eat. My ONLY complaint is there was only one plain bag of chips left so I ended up with sour cream and onion. Not much of a complaint since I like sour cream and onion. Great chips, by the way… Not Lays but a brand I’ve never heard of. GREATQUALITY so far. I will be back for sure.(I was pissed my hubby didn’t get any pickles but I lived.) PS– The price point makes perfect sense considering what you are getting! Want to pay less? Then you know what to do. Get lesser quality meat else where.

We had come over for lunch today after reading these highly positive reviews and left kind of disappointed. We got the French dip sandwich and brisket hoagie sandwich. With the Unilocal review deal(50% off second sandwich if you write them a review) and the Facebook check in deal(10% off if you check in) the meal for the two of us came to be about $ 20. Obviously we wanted to take advantage of the Unilocal deal, but apparently you have to write the review before you pay. And eat. How does that make sense, especially if you haven’t ever eaten there before? Eventually we convinced them to just let us pay and write the review later. Anyways, back to the food. The sandwiches were pretty big, but the sides they came with(Mac salad and coleslaw) were puny. The coleslaw kind of tasted like kfc coleslaw and the Mac salad didn’t seem very fresh. The sandwiches were also just ok. I think the French dip was better, but both meats in the sandwich were pretty dry and flavorless. And the bread just tasted like cheap bread bought from a grocery market. This place isn’t bad by any means, but I probably won’t be back :(

A couple things to start… — I’ve had a HORRIFIC experience here more than once. — The manager has reached out to me to try to make things right. We never managed to connect, but that being said, I decided to give ‘em another shot. — After today, I’m still not sure if I’ll be a frequent flyer(like I was when this was Victor’s Deli). THATBEINGSAID… Went in around 10:30am to check if the line was prepped on time, as it most certainly was not, upon my last visit. They seemed busy, but basically had all the components of my sandwich ready. Return of the Jamaican Jerk BLAST; a sandwich that – to put it mildly – disappointed me, last time. Jerk-spiced Turkey, Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado, Swiss(Gouda), and Tomato. The menu says«sun-dried tomatoes,» but I got regular tomatoes. When the fella was about to wrap my sandwich, he asked me, «Would you like lettuce?» Odd. Isn’t the second letter of the sandwiches BLAST moniker, an «L» for Lettuce??? What is going on? I feel like I’m on crazy pills. The sandwich set my mouth on fire… and I eat a lot of spicy food. I lick the bottom of the XX-Flamin’ Hot Cheetos bag. My gut hates me for it. Still, their sandwich came strong with the fire, and I take my hat off to boldness like that. **Points** These guys are REALLY nice. Otherwise, I’d slam this place all over again. It has almost an east coast bodega feel to it. Cases are half-filled, but unlike bodegas, the products look FRESH. Just feels like a shop that is kinda piecemeal… Like some dudes you went to college with decided it would be a «neat idea» to open a butcher shop and slang sandwiches, too. I’ll come back for meats to support local biz, but otherwise, I’m kinda bummed out. Definitely not a sandwich destination, but ironically, a great place to get deli meats, quality beef, pork & chicken, and a nice option to pick up «ready-hot items» for dinner(i.e. brisket, ribs, macaroni and cheese… you know). The shorter, hispanic dude who has been working here for well over ten years was not on the sandwich line as usual, but I was happy to see him working in the back. That says something about the new owner: he kept people from the old establishment, and to me, that shows respect. And for that, you shall receive the third star from me.

Overview: Gentleman’s is a butcher shop and small deli located in southwest Los Angeles(LA proper) with a small private lot(20 minute parking only) that has a small but high quality selection of beef, lamb, chicken, and pork as well as a deli that serves a around a dozen sandwiches and half a dozen sides. The Prepared Food: I tried the French Dip as they were sold out of their very-popular brisket sandwich. It was cooked to order and about $ 13.50 for the sandwich and a tiny side of mac/cheese. While it was delicious, it tasted more like a fancy Philly Cheese Steak than the ultra-tender, melt-in-your mouth meat sandwich that I was hoping for. The mac and cheese was definitely seasoned well with just a hint of spice. The cheese was nice, thick, and non-Kraft — just the way I like it. I didn’t think the sandwich was a great value and hope to come back to try their brisket sandwich. The Meat: This butcher is different than your neighborhood Ralph’s because it carries hybrid Wagyu beef(crossed with American beef) that has somewhat more marbling than the standard Angus cattle from Texas. The prices are pretty high with rib-eye being around $ 24/lb and dry-aged versions being ~$ 33/lb, and these definitely lack the even and copious marbling that true Wagyu beef is known for. That being said, I still think that it’s a high quality steak for a special occasion that doesn’t break the bank like Wagyu beef would :-). If you’re not in the mood for beef, they also had lamb chops, beef and pork ribs, bacon(and double smoked bacon) and chicken. The Staff: I loved the butcher that helped my wife and I on the weekend! He was amicable, fast, accommodating, and had a great attitude. The rest of the staff was nice but not quite as approachable as the butcher :-). Conclusions: With good but not great french dip, and high prices for their steaks, Gentleman’s isn’t a place the average buyer can shop at regularly, but for a special occasion such as a birthday or holiday get-together, I whole hearted recommend heading to Gentleman’s to buying some kind-of-Wagyu beef!

**FRENCHDIPALLTHEWAY** Thanks again, Unilocal for steering me in the right direction for lunch. PARKING ======== Street or small strip mall parking lot(free). AMIBIANCE ========= Typical small deli with a few counter chairs. Casual, expect construction workers. FOOD ===== FRENCHDIP — $ 13.50 Wagyu French Dip pan seared Wagyu beef on a French roll with Provolone cheese, shallots, and and a side of warm au jus is the best French Dip I’ve had. The meat was juicy and that au jus is perfection. RATING: 5⁄5 SERVICE ======== It’s not going to be super fast, so expect a wait and hopefully there’s not 5 people in front of you. Don’t expect beaming smiles from the staff. It’s really an «order and go» vibe. The cashier didn’t even look at me during the check-out transaction. I get it’s a no-frills establishment, but when a transaction requests a tip of 10, 15, or 20%, you should ask yourself why. RATING: 3⁄5 PROTIP ======= Ask for a bag for the French Dip because it will drip! OVERALL ======== It’s not a cheap to-go lunch, but worth every bite. RECOMMEND their French Dip if you are on a splurging lunch mood.

Not impressed my friends — not impressed. I had a craving for some protein and used my not so trusty Unilocal app to find this place. I read the reviews and headed to Gentlemens. Don’t trust the waze on this one, it will get you lost. But I once I found it, it kinda went down hill from there. I arrived 15 mins before closing — all the chairs were up, food has been put away … And if I wasn’t so hungry and excited to try their sandwhich — I would have walked out. Just change your hours if want to close up or start closing early or can’t work the posted hours… Im a huge fan of service and presentation and if you can’t maintain both for the duration your shop is open– shut it down early or shut it down completely. I ordered the French dip — honestly I really didn’t want to order anything since it all looked questionable since it was wrapped up — solid 2.5 stars I wish I could round up but if hate to leave my Unilocalers a stray. Chewy, and although Au jus was on the side … By the time I unwrapped my sandwich — it was so soggy I couldn’t enjoy it as a sandwich as it fell a part and thou it was wrapped the blob of meat and bread was leaking and leaked on to my shorts and stained them(lame) — damn that was hot too. I really wanted to like this place both as a sandwich shop and a butcher — it seemed like a much better place than Omaha steaks but if I can’t trust that the service level and counter areas will be functional 100% during advertised hours — why bother coming back? Who knows maybe next time they will start wrapping up even earlier or cut corners some other way? If I could have had my meal and sat down and ate it there — maybe my experience would have been better. Maybe I would have experienced the full on 4 stars everyone raved about. Unfortunately, I got the short cut, short changed, hustled, why the heck are u here we are closing in 15 minutes service, as a first and only impression.

Gentlemen by name and by reputation! I usually wait a bit to let my experience settle before I write a review but this blew my mind right off. Walking into a clean, eye-catching, meat heaven, Manny and Fernando greeted us and introduced themselves. Fernando is the chef and he is very proud of his work. That extra ingredient you’re tasting? It’s LOVE. Let me talk to you ’bout the brisket. After tasting it, I immediately high-fived my fiancée who was next to me experiencing an Italian cold cut. The meat was so tender, not dry, moist, savory, flavorful. It was transcendent. MEATHEAVENEVERYONE! EVERYONEGONOW!!! Needless to say, we’re coming back. Enjoy your sandwich.

So delicious! Perfect meat, wonderful sauce, not too much bread. I didn’t know LA could do sandwiches like this! If you’re looking for a family owned delicious Deli, look no further. Soup isn’t bad either! Even better news, they will start delivering soon! The bad news is, I’m gonna get fat.
